  1. Hey.... If you visit Baan Thong Ching.....located at Thong Ching Bay....there is only a tiny dirt road leading to this place....cut into the mountain from the old ferry port at Kwang Pao Bay.....Guess South doesn't know where Thong Ching Bay is located :)

'Drove' there for a wedding about 18 months or so ago.

  2. So you walked down that coastline way before the road was ever constructed???

Nice try....There is no road leading to Baan Thong Ching and Thong Ching Bay....unless of course you refer to the dirt road that is cut into the mountain? Do you really call this a "road"???

Suggest you go back and have another look. :)

  3. Re: Phuket & Paradise

I'm sticking to what I've already stated. Phuket is now an over-built and over populated island. It might well be 'paradise' to some, but for me, living with congested roads, an ever growing population and where it seems every bit of spare land is being developed, paradise it is most definitely is not. It is certainly not as close as one can get to paradise as stated by phuketrichard. Each to their own, if you think it's paradise then that is your prerogative. That's ok. We're all entitled to our own opinions and I've stated mine. That's all I'm saying.

Happy New Year to you all. :)

  4. roads were everywhere EXCEPT Patong to Karon ( whihc was a track for motorcycles in the 80's)

Flights in and out to Bangkok, sing, Penang since the 70's

I moved here in '84 and its still as close to Paradise ( if u can stay away from Patong) as u can get.

Sorry, Phuket, the whole island, is now a long long way from paradise .... and it will never ever recover its beauty that it once had. Your conception of paradise is a long long way from the norm.

  5. Patong Beach 35 years ago. Shows what tourism does!

Pretty much the only building in the area. Restaurant in the day,

move the tables and chairs and it's a place to sleep at night!

  6. I love your joyful, constructive and positive posts ... tell me...have you ever visited Thong Ching Bay yourself? But you still do not agree it is amongst the best beaches in Thailand?? OK...each to his own taste....then I will enjoy this beach all by myself ;-)

Olsen, give it a rest will you. I walked down that coastline way before the road was ever constructed. Yes, it is ok but no, it is not amongst the best beaches in Thailand, far from it. Clean the rose tint from your glasses and as I said before maybe time for you to do a bit more traveling.

Actually, you enjoy that beach by yourself ...... and I just hope that there is no internet access there - so we don't have to continue listening to you.

    :)

  7. Olsen or ThaiSunshine or whoever else you masquerade as ... you have started this same thread on at least 3 other forums I have seen, probably more and you become more transparent with each post. I think you have seen that the general consensus is that people, both foreign and local have no interest in developing the said area and you, out for what seems like a quick buck have no interest at all except for lining your own pockets. Leave the place alone. People who have been here a lot longer than you have no desire for your ideas.

As I said before, try Namibia, big bucks to be made there .... I heard. If you want help getting a ticket, just ask.

  8. A paradise where swaying coconut palms, lush green landscape, limestone mountains and virtually untouched beaches still remain in their natural beauty.

Then someone decides to build a monstrosity of an eye-sore right on the beach. :)

  9. So there is Carrefour, Robinsons, Tesco, Big C etc. in Nakhorn, does anyone know of a map online, or a google map, or can anyone describe where those shopping centers are located?

How did you ever make it to Thailand?

    :)

  10. The Thai culture course is run on an annual basis in Nakhonsithammarat in early July. The school where you work/will work at should organize the event for you.

Google Kanlayanee English Program or check EPSouth.info for more information.

  11. Making up stories....??? I've lived in Phuket for 4 years.....so I know what I am talking about!

Have you ever been in Patong in December?? If you have, then you must agree with me that it hard to get anywhere and see anything with all those tourists....

Last time I visited Phuket was 2 months ago....here I made a trip from Phuket Town to Patong. By car. It was almost one long ride in a huge traffic jam! There is only 15 kilometers from Phuket Town to Chalong, but it took me 1 hour....each way....!! It was like driving in BKK during peak hours!!

Been there in December several times. Patong Beach. Never once had a problem booking a tour I wanted the night/day before. Never had a problem catching a Tuktuk or motorcycle taxi when I needed one. Patong Beach itself can get crowded, but there's much prettier (and empty) beaches a short motorbike ride away.

The only traffic jams I've ever experienced were caused by construction or accidents.

The OP is just trying to paint a glossy picture at the expense of other places. Laughable really. :)

  12. 6 posts in a row? You sound like a worried man Olsen. Until there is an infrastructure, it will never take off. Out of all the farangs I know/knew there, three are left and the others have either died or left with very deep and empty pockets and long faces.

    :)

  13. keep us posted in a fortnight, whatever that is (2.5 weeks?) my dilemma is whether to stay hyper or go hypo..choose your poison! signed: kick yet

Ok, just saw a different doctor today at the same hospital. He sort of checked me over and then prescribed three 'Tapazole' tablets a day along with one Betalol morning and evening. No side affects and actually feel pretty good.

    Go back in a month.

    Thnx

  14. Thai Visa is full of stories of farang getting "taken to the cleaners" financially by Thai women. These stories are popular, provocative and seem to provide a lot of impetus for the huge popularity of this site, and the concomitant advertising that accompanies a successful web site, hence lining the pockets of investors with cash. That is a good thing. If you fall in love with a single Thai lady, and you are on the other side of the world ( like I was ), you may have to work in your country and travel to LOS when you can. Assuming you will help her financially for (whatever reason) prior to marrying here, here is a way to do it without getting totally fleeced (keeping in mind there is no free lunch). 1.First of all, have a shopping list ( or checklist) for what type of Thai lady you want to meet in the first place. Although I was attracted to BG's, they were NOT on my list for reasons I will not get into here. My short list went something like this: college education, from a decent family, good heart, 10 to 15 years younger ( I was 49 at the time), decent job, attractive, more concerned with love than money,a non drinker and smoker. There are loads of Thai women as we speak that fit this category, but for example, if an attractive bg is all you require, then your list is short and simple. At any rate you may want to make SURE you have an idea BEFOREHAND what you are looking for. 2. Once you have visited her 2 or 3 times, and you feel she loves you and you are almost ready to spring the question, you may want to consider trying number...3. Send her a copy of your bank card and give her the same PIN number you use, so she can access your account. Western Union charges you 15% by the time its all said and done, so 10,000 baht in her hand will cost you about 11,500 Baht. Keep only what you can afford to lose in your account, and tell her to take what she needs. You will quickly find out if she is on the take or not. In my case, she took about 10,000 baht per month. You can see what she takes from your bank statements, and it costs in this case 100 baht per withdrawal, 1% instead of 15.This will NOT work for everybody, but it worked for me. To make a long story short, she ended up giving most of it back to me, as she did not need the money but was testing me. Flame away if you wish, but it worked for me. She is NOT a money grabber, I can assure you of that. In Canada now, she shops at discount stores for clothes, etc etc, and has prooven beyond a shadow of a doubt that my gamble paid off. Signed: did NOT get ripped off

Personally, if there is a need to 'test' someone, then that someone is not the one.

Been happily married touching 20 years .... with no 'testing' at all.

    :)

  15. You guys that want olsen to keep quiet need to realize that olsen is in the business of promoting this region, therefore, it is highly unlikely that he will keep quiet. He wants this area to develop so he can make a killing selling land and developing property.

If that's the case, this thread should be deleted as it is indirect advertising!

Olsen, why not develop somewhere else ..... say Namibia.

    :)

  16. Thank you for the responses. I'm 800km from BKK and don't get up there too often. The Doctor I saw seemed to be knowledgeable and he wants me back in in a fortnight for another blood test and will then, depending on the results change any medication as necessary. I'll see what happens then. In the meantime I am doing a lot of online research.

  17. I have Hashimoto Thyroidis, South. Which basically means its a permanent condition and i take a hormone replacement pill for it.

But, it did start out as hyperthyroidism. (My thread if you would like to read my own experience: http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/Hypothyroidi...;hl=hypothyroid )

May I ask where you had the test done? Also, is the doc a qualified Endocrinologist? What treatment have they given you?

Just best to make sure that you are given the correct diagnosis and treatment for that. The thyroid is quite delicate and can swing from hypo to hyper if the treatment is too aggressive.

The good news is that (in my limited knowledge) that hyperthroidism often will correct itself. In my case it didnt, but most cases it does (well, thats the info i was given in any case).

Im sure Sheryl will come along to give you some great advice on this.

Thank you for the reply. The test was done at a local private hospital and the young doctor actually came across as knowing what he was talking about.

Treatment is 2 pills of PETEYU (antithyroid) & 1 BETALOL (?) morning and evening. He also gave me XANAX but that is because of my insomnia related to something else.

  18. :D

I've just come back from my local hospital where the Doctor diagnosed me with 'hyperthyroidism'. I, too be honest had never heard of it until today and reading what I can find on the internet doesn't really give me an answer.

It started about a month ago when my left eye became irritated and started 'bulging'. I left it for a while and then yesterday went to see an eye doctor. She immediately started touching my neck which I thought strange. Then she mentioned thyroids and I said no, my eyes. Anyway after further advice I went to the hospital and had my blood checked and I was diagnosed with hyperthyroidism. Anyone out there have it or have experience of someone who has/had had it?

    :)
