You are right, it isn't the responsibility of the US Consulate to certify retirement income for expats living in Thailand, until they started issuing the $50 "income verification letters."

They enjoyed themselves collecting $50 for doing nothing more than notarising these letters, and now when immigration asked them to take a couple of minutes to actually do what people have been paying them to do they stopped the letters.

Good for you on your monthly transfer of funds to a Thai bank every month.  This fund transfer does work for some but for many expats it isn't a good idea.  Some of us enjoy international's travel throughout the year, and don't need to have 65,000 baht transferred to a Thai bank every month when we are in another country.

Then there are others who like to use their credit cards at Rimping, restaurants, and for other purchases during the month since they offer cash back on these cards, and don't need 65,000 baht coming into Thailand every month. ????

If you got money in thai bank, it doesnt matter what country your in. Cant understand what the problem would be. A bank is a bank.

Well, it looks like due to the American Consulates failure to verify simple US bank statements for expats living in Thailand, there is no sensible solution.  Having money transferred from the US to a Thai bank monthly is costly and idiotic.  Thank's consulate staff, you are a great group ????

In my opinion, if a person has the income that the TI require, then bank fees would be a drop in the bucket for for them.

  4. I dreamed that I awoke one morn, logged on to Thai Visa, and there  in big bold letters was the headline " NO MORE POSTS ABOUT VISAS UNTIL THAI IMMIGRATION MAKES A NEW ANNOUNCEMENT". I know that would be a nightmare to most of you, but, it was just a dream, just a dream.

Nothing has changed in Pattaya since the 1980s when I first visited.

If anything, the police are more tolerant today. If a farang smashed a police window back then he would of copped a flogging for sure. I remember a farang sitting by himself in a Pattaya 2rd  bar and suddenly a gang of Thais pounced and bashed him into the next IceAge. Only some tourists who intervened saved his life.

Drunk agro farang seem to get treated softer these days . Can't see it lasting.

Nothing like that would happen in our home country.

  6. Expect a lot of flack for writing retirement visa from the PC brigade. Your next 90 report will be 90 days after you return. Re  visa nr, dunno, in 15 years i just ask what to put there when i go for the 90 report. But, never mind, your going to get dozens of replies telling you what I have already told you.  ( just saw the pretend Dr got his comment in before mine got submitted, over and out)

Indeed, the word "income" is quite sufficient in an embassy letter. It was very poor form of the embassies to accept these new rules if they were only targeted at certain countries - they should have refused and sent immigration back to instigate these rule changes themselves in a fair and consistent manner. I wouldn't be surprised if they were hoodwinked.

Where did you get the info that TI instructed the 4  embassy's to stop issuing income letters?

It’s been suggested many times already.

It may not be illegal, but you are claiming to have an income that you don’t have which means you are making a fraudulent application.

You would need more than £500, because the £500 would soon reduce with the cost of sending it back and forth.

And it’s unknown how immigration would react seeing 65K coming in every month, but seeing some transferred out again.

How could you disguise the money as being from a Govt Pension. You  need to keep up with the latest gossip.
