  1. What is "scary" about it? What difference does it make really? Religious people believe in things that I don't. Usually it is meaningless in he real world and has no effect on me.

The 'scary' part is one should want the head of state to have a grip on the facts needed to govern. I am not referring to his religious beliefs. If he 'believes' his fantasy-based pyramid theory over vetted science he is a loose cannon who shouldn't lead a small village, much less a country.

expounding on your statement every politician ever believing in the fasther, son and holy ghost is/was unfit to govern ?

I wrote 3 sentences and you entirely missed one... ' I am not referring to his religious beliefs.'

  3. Well, I never thought Obama had no chance because his political talents are so amazing but I don't see that in Bernie. I will humbly admit that I didn't think Obama would be nominated against Hillary until it became clear that he was going to. But really I never thought ... NO chance.

Say what?!!? As an independent Bernie's political and legislative skills have been praised by his contemporaries in both parties for years. Obama was a jr. senator with no obvious political chops and, although he has had a couple of victories, his eight years in the WH hasn't shown him to be politically adept.

  4. First of all, well done to the stopping smoking, it doesn't bother you, it bothers me and a lot of other non smokers. When I'm eating my fish and chips I want tomato sauce on my fish and not the taste of nicotine. Many people have died through passive smoking, so if you don't mind inhaling other peoples smoke good for you.

I think if u look around u will find u are in a 'restaurant' in the sitch u describe above, not a bar as the OP described.
  5. Every country has it's own problems and very own kind of crooks. In Thailand at least it all is in the open as they are too lazy to camouflage things. Simply stay away from bouncers, tuk tuk drivers, taxi and mini bus drivers, kathoeys, gay areas, second floor a GO-GOs, shady karaoke places, harbor areas, etc. and absolutely avoid getting hammered to an extend you can't handle and no matter what - never use the F word!

Why haven't I been beaten up like that by any thugs in LOS in 25 years? Because I know when to duck for cover, where not to go, how to not provoke, and when to better shut the F up and simply walk. There is a good book out there titled "How to not get hit". Buy it! It's money well spent!

I am sure similar methods apply to other, even western, countries. Since we don't know what the reason for the attack was (bill dodging? calling one of the dancers a slut? using the f word the english and yanks like so much? eager to try out a new kick they learned at the farang Thai boxing camp? a bouncer simply wanting to test his new boots?) it is useless to discuss here who has been wrong and who is responsible.

Some people look for trouble, some don't simple as that!

You just said in other words; I survive Thailand because I am a coward. What a way to live
Funny I read: I survive in Thailand because I use my brain... The only way to live.

What a way to live. Always being careful. Don't upset them. Don't say that. Always smile. Is that using your brain or just being a coward?

Only children and drunks live in a world of fight or flight. The average adult can recognize nuance and diffuse virtually any situation.
