  1. I'm in a similar situation and so I developed some code in R to calculate a maximum amount you could spend monthly. You input some variables, like income from pension and/or stocks, when you think you'll die and some other stuff. You'd have to install R but it runs fairly easily. Let me know if you want it.
  2. Has anyone changed their Schwab banking address from an American to a Thai address? Any issues?
  3. I'm an American and I'm wondering what makes a restaurant American?
  4. Read Orwell's Burmese Days. Good stuff. I also just finished Burgess's Malayan Trilogy. Time for a Tiger is wonderful.
  5. I entered Malaysia via Pedang Besar last week. Immigration for non-malaysians is the same as it has ever been. No autogates, you go to Thai immigration, then Malaysian. And make sure you fill out the MDAC beforehand.
  6. Never mind, I sorted it myself. Just filled it out and exported it.
  7. I'm going to be doing my extension this week and I am wondering which pages or info from the TM30 do they want? I did this last year, but can't seem to find the documents I filled out. My wife filled out the TM30 2 years ago and so it has been approved, but do I add myself with the 'Add' button? And if so, what is my check in date? Do I just put I have stayed there the past year? As I'm tying this, I realize that this appears a bit dumb, but well, better dumb than going back and forth to the IO office. thanks,
  8. I'm in a similar situation. I'm covered by my University of CA PPO plan by Anthem. It is world wide and covers everything, though I have a high deductible. Hopefully it doesn't go the way of what happened to the original poster. And it covers non-emergency stuff as well.
  9. Good, that is what I wanted to hear. Thanks!
  10. Greetings, I started a netflix account back in the US back in 2013 but I now live in Thailand. Is there any downside to ditching the current US Netflix account and redoing a new one here in Thailand? It appears to be cheaper. Thanks,
  11. To do my agent-less extension I had to exit Thailand as DrJack mentions above. I used an agent for the 1st time, but then tried to do it myself and was told to leave and restart the process, which is what I did and it worked fine. I'm quite curious to see if you have to do the same thing.
  12. Thanks. I'll wipe it and return it.
  13. I've just finished a one year contract with True for internet. Do we return the router/modem when we end the contract? Thanks,
  14. That happened to me when I was recently flying out of Surabaya. A gov't person interviewed me with those type of questions.
  15. That was not the case for me in Samut Prakan immigration. The officer insisted I redo the whole visa and said the one I obtained via the Pattaya agent was no good. I was told I had to leave the country and redo it. I went to Cambodia and I did as she said. And I did have over 800K in the bank for a year.
  16. She looked at my bank book and saw the very dodgy 800K going in and out on the same day. And that was even with my having well over 800K in the bank for a year.
  17. I used an agent in Pattaya for the 1st time. For the 1st extension I wanted to ditch the agent and do it myself. I had the necessary funds for a year but the immigration officer in Samut Prakan said no way. She said I had to go to another country and start again.
  18. I have considered getting a LTR visa, but after my job finishes, I'd have to switch back to a retirement visa, so there doesn't seem to be much point.
  19. Did you go from a Non-O retirement visa to the LTR?
  20. I have minidlna running on my linux box that has all the videos. Most TVs will pick up the DLNA server as an input. You can also export the videos with NFS and use VLC to watch them on your TV.
  21. While that number Fidelity mentions is interesting, what is worrying is the number of people nearing retirement age (in America) with an insufficient amount of savings. I would like to see Harris and Trump talk about how these people are going to get by in the coming years.
  22. You might need glasses or a different prescription. Go to a doctor.
  23. I have never seen any. I brought back seeds from the States and tried to grow my own with no luck.
  24. I ditched my ATT phone account 2 years ago and moved the number to Google voice to receive SMS messages and it has been working really well. And there is only the initial cost of 20 dollars (from what I remember)
