  1. I was quite suprised to see Mr Oxleys former Sheffield boss parading as a teak furniture expert.

from a comment posted by a reader on andrew drummonds blog.

    thats an interesting snippet.

anybody know anything more on this guy , if its who i think it is , then he lives a seemingly very low profile quiet life running his business just outside hua hin.

  2. But Im too cheap to build a house

    just go native.

    1 blue striped plastic tarp.sheet .................200b

    4 bamboo poles ....................................... 80b

200 empty plastic water bottles and 100 old plastic food bags , a couple of old tyres and a broken refrigerator................. free

erect tarp over poles , decorate lovingly with plastc detritus , tyres and the fridge and move in.

    job done.

  3. This is all about controlling women, it's their genitals to do with what they please. Criminalizatin of CENSORED doesn't work, it only serves to expose poor women to corruption and violence.

If a govenrment is serious about stopping it criminalize the buyers, like in Sweden.

But then not so many tourists woud still...come .

feminist hypocracy from the horse doctor again.

    why penalise the men ?

if the women should be allowed to willingly , but for a price , pleasure men with their genitals , then surely men should be free to take them up on the offer.

prostitution will never be stopped , its purely market forces in operation.

what should be targeted is the selling into prostitution of those unwilling to be sold and the prosecution of those who run the trade and those who knowingly patronise the trade.

  4. Man on run in shooting...... from the sheffield star.

    By Claire Lewis

A FUGITIVE Sheffield bouncer is being hunted by police in Thailand over the shooting of a wealthy American.

Darren Oxley, aged 38, fled the UK after his drug dealing operation in former city centre nightclub Republic was exposed in 2001.

Now he is being hunted by Thai detectives after Donald Whiting, 65, was gunned down outside his retirement home on an estate in a Thai resort managed by the ex-doorman.

Oxley, who fled Sheffield for Thailand and became a property developer and manager in the resort of Hua Hin, had been accused of sending extortionate water bills to Mr Whiting.

He was already due at court the day after the shooting, last October, over complaints lodged by Mr Whiting about his bills and having his water cut off. Mr Whiting also claimed his car had been firebombed.

But the day before the case was listed the pensioner was shot in the back of the neck, and has been left paralysed from the waist down.

Oxley is alleged to have been involved in a war of words with Mr Whiting on an internet forum, which is said to have left him furious at the damage done to the reputation of his company.

His Thai wife, 31-year-old Janpen Oxley, has been arrested for allegedly ordering the 'hit' on Mr Whiting. She was seized as she tried to cross the border into Cambodia. Thai police believe her husband may have already crossed the border and gone to ground.

Immigration Police Colonel Benjapol Lortsawat said: "An arrest warrant has been issued for Darren Oxley but his whereabouts are unknown."

Three others have been arrested for firing the gun at Mr Whiting in return for an alleged £4,000.

Oxley fled Sheffield after he was caught in 2001 paying drug pushers to deal cocaine, Ecstasy and amphetamines to revellers at the Matilda Street club in return for free entry and drinks.

South Yorkshire Police uncovered his lucrative sideline after mounting one of the largest raids ever carried out in Sheffield, which led to the seizure of 900 ecstasy tablets and 42 bags of white powder.

Oxley was charged with dealing Class A drugs but jumped bail, leaving nine members of his gang to face the court. They were jailed for a total of 60 years.

At Sheffield Crown Court it was claimed Oxley was the ringleader of the operation and his crew had "lived in fear" of him. He was described as "violent" and "not a man you mess with" who had made considerable amounts of money.

When he arrived in Thailand he bought flash cars including a Lamborghini, Bentley and Range Rover, went into the property trade, and married the ex-wife of a Thai police officer.

"An arrest warrant has been issued for Darren Oxley but his whereabouts are unknown."

considering the checks , cross checks , 90 day reports , address reporting , computers , visa renewals , photocopies , photographs , duplicates and triplicates required by every immigration office and outpost in this kingdom on a regular basis for every "alien" , it seems inconceivable that his whereabouts is as unknown as they say they are.

  5. He urged the government to promote healthy values by praising young people who set a good example and to speed up projects to find jobs for students to earn extra money in salubrious ways.

he urged the government to promote healthy values by renouncing kickbacks , renouncing dubious moral values , turning a blind eye to the myriad of injustices that are perpetrated in this country on a daily basis against the poor , trimming inflated expense accounts , abandoning fact finding junkets with 5 star accommodation , and the accumulation of unusual wealth using insider information.

government survey discovers amazing new use for money.

citing a survey .............. just wanted money to buy things.
  6. My brother had screw ins in the 50s in England

implants ("screw ins") were not invented until the 70's.

he may have had crowns on posts inserted into the roots of the teeth.

implants are metal anchors , implanted into the mandible or maxilla , in cases where no teeth , or roots of teeth , remain.

prosthetic teeth are then attached to these anchors. the best solution for those who have few or no teeth left.

if you have the money for them , implants are a much better solution to the problem of missing teeth than the ancient ,uncomfortable , unhygienic and imprecise solutions offered by plastic removable dentures.

dental departments in the better hospitals are a better bet than local clinics although there is one clinic on thong lor and one near silom road (both in bangkok) that have very good reputations for implant surgery.

to call thong lor clinics rip offs is unfair and sounds like the last refuge of the curmudgeon who either cant afford to ,or is unwilling to stump up the money for the advanced dentistry offered in many of the clinics there......and has a grudge against those who can !!

some people get along fine with removable plastic dentures , they are a cheap alternative to some of the better options available. but they are damaging to any remaining teeth and often damaging to the underlying bone in full denture cases. food gets caught under them , they frequently break , they can be a bit smelly and they should be removed overnight for cleaning and to "rest" the gums. as the gums and bone wears down , the dentures lose their fit and they will need replacing or altering every few years. they are outdated contraptions now.

implants or bridgework if there are enough supporting teeth are a much better way to go.

if they seem expensive , it might be worth making an effort to save for them , there is no need to put up with ancient and imprecise solutions to the problem of edentulousness.

  7. most of them go unnoticed by me , but the nation light show does get noticed and does annoy.

i understand the need for ads , after all wages have to be paid to the mods and all the others who work for the company , so there does need to be an income.

but the sheer volume of the ads is sometimes overwhelming

when the connection is slow you have to wait for the main part of the page to load whilst the ads which always come up in a micro second just taunt you with their stupid slogans and flashing lights. who would buy anything from a company whose ads just anger you ?

  8. the new header , at the top of seemingly every page , the nation thai visa forum banner.

please spare us the rapid flashing and zooming about slogans nonsense , its sending me up the wall.

a little subtlety will make a better impression.

    pleeeeease.

  9. its always worth while checking out neil youngs offerings , personally i prefer him in full blown electric mode grinding and churning away at those magnificent lengthy solos he does so well.

i met him once in the seventies in a cafe in sausalito in california , breakfast time.

i attempted to chat with him . but he showed good sense and ignored me.

saw him many times in concert in london , the finest one was at finsbury park around the mid nineties with booker t and the mgs as his backing band...... around the time of his album "freedom"

May You Never was covered by Eric Clapton. Phil Collins and Gilmore played on his 1993 compilation No Little Boy.

A statement on his website on Thursday said: "With heavy heart and an unbearable sense of loss we must announce that John died this morning."

Born Ian David McGreachy in Surrey in 1948, he spent his many of his early years at his father's home in Glasgow following his parents' divorce, before moving to London in his late teens.

  11. I first started reading ThaiVisa in 2005, and joined in January 2006. It was a very different animal 3-4 years ago, and we used to have lively discussions, with many amusing, annoying and erudite members contributing to our daily read. Some threads were highly intellectual, others were very political, and still others were comical and informative in equal doses. In my view, the general ethos of the forum was that of a large family – sometimes squabbling, sometimes loving, occasionally mean and outrageous, but mostly tolerant and forgiving - as with most large families. By and large the ebb and flow of postings was allowed to continue unchecked, and TV gained a reputation for being entertaining, very informative and having considerable independence and integrity.

I have observed the sad deterioration of ThaiVisa , probably in direct proportion to the vast increase in the number of members , and corresponding jump in advertising revenue. Most, if not all, the best posters and genuine characters have faded into the ether; either voluntarily, with their hands wringing in disillusion and despair, or more often, assisted down the path to oblivion by an over zealous, mysterious force.

Such is the fate of all organizations which rise above their humble origins and seek riches beyond their wildest dreams.

Time will tell, but I do agree that ThaiVisa has sold it's soul for a mess of pottage, and it won't be long before the only debates remaining on the forum will be bland, mind numbing discussions on the 'Weather', 'Why are there so many lady boys in Pattaya 'Every farang is married to a whore except me', and the 'Times of buses from Bangkok to Pattaya'.

So you sow, so may you reap. :o

spot on mobi , well said.

  12. Saw CC for the first time last week .It had many people ,95% Farang in posing stance .Standing and sipping as if they were at a cocktail party .Saw nothing that would make me stay for a drink .

ive seen that place too , my first thought was it reminded me of one of those english town centre street corners , often near to the bus station where you get all the blue faced dossers and winos lurching around and chugging it down.

amazed to see so many people there.

    awful place though.

  13. Professor Marshall, the 2001 Prince Mahidol Awardee in the Public Health, received the Nobel Prize in Medicine or Physiology in 2005 for his discovery of a new type of bacteria called “Helicobacter pylori”.

His findings transformed therapy of peptic ulcers from consumption of antacid H1 receptor or radical gastric surgery, to a short highly effective course of antibiotics.

and let us not forget to congratulate the actual recipients of the award too !

    Well done doctors.

well , i for one would like to congratulate prof. marshall too , as i have benefitted from the above discovery.
