  1. the upcoming court case should give the police more than enough clues as to who ordered this hit. all the police need to do now is to check the connections of mr. big before deciding whether to arrest him or not , as the case may be.

as with the hua hin shooting , the local plod may be fearful of treading on powerful toes.

and again , as with the hua hin case , the (in this case , canadian) embassy should push the government to solve this crime by having some uninvolved outside plod take over the investigation.

with the hua hin shooting , i believe that the us embassy made representations to the thai authorities to speed up the investigation.

i dont know how involved the canadian embassy will be in this.

the foreign press could help this by publicising the crime , there seems to be little mention of this case yet outside thailand.

  2. there was a case on the news this evening .

a bank employee responsible for dealing with credit card applications was found to have sold on details of some of the applications he processed , including credit card numbers and pin numbers.

a sort of public service announcement followed this news item , telling people that anytime they provide a bank with photocopies of passports , id cards , house ownership papers etc. they should sign and date those photocopies and "cross" them in the same way that cheques used to be crossed , with a note of the specific purpose of the photocopy.

e.g. "for credit card application" " for account opening" "for money transfer" etc.

  3. Nothing is selling

could this mean that all those fancy flashy real estate offices that seem to have taken over the centre of town , and all those stickered up 4x4s that get all the best parking spaces , and all those pressed shirt wearing agents with their barbie doll big sunglassed thai wives , and all those thick as pigshit brit builder yobs with the tattood knuckles will be leaving town

    please tell me yes.

  4. Thailand's new signature drink is based on very Thai ingredients
    a shot of vodka
    !!!!!

with most of the world tumbling into recession , with the currency of thailands biggest provider of tourists , the uk , falling to record lows against the baht , and with all the overcharging and silly scams that infuriate tourists continuing unabated , i think thailand will have to do more than come up with a vodka and chilli cocktail , that will be impossible for tourists to buy on an ever increasing number of days thanks to selling restrictions.

thailand is not the cheap paradise it once was . good value , good service and good manners are getting harder and harder to find now unless you go 5 star.

i have visitors , friends and family ,come over from the uk every christmas and new year , most were surprised by the expense this year and by the falling off in standards at the , admittedly , touristy places we took them to visit.

the quality of a lot of tourists also leaves a lot to be desired , unkempt , uncouth , loud and demanding in the main , plodding around the streets with cigarettes in their mouths and with sullen teenage kids in tow , they do not enhance the landscape one bit. thais seem to despise them , as do i.

hopefully most of them will be too busy queuing up at moscow and london soup kitchens next year to be able to consider a trip over here.

low season cant come quickly enough for this poster.

  5. the gravy train puffs its way down from the North and the North-East to the South.

    indeed it does.

they are having a cabinet meeting in the dusit hotel south of cha am next week , on the pretext of escaping from demos in bangkok.

they are probably testing the systems there to ensure that the asean summit being held there next week goes off ok.

meanwhile , the already perfect 6 lane road that runs between cha am and hua hin has been upgraded with a new even smoother surface and the central divider has been improved with masses of even prettier flowers and bushes , the airport has been smartened up and colourful new runway lights installed.

local big cheeses will be rubbing their hands with glee in anticipation of all the meeting and greeting and schmoozing and boozing opportunities open to them.

  6. you dont need to deal with an agent if you are buying a condo , just go into the offices of any condo that you are interested in and enquire about units for sale , these juristic offices are obliged by law to then give you accurate information about any unit you are interested in and you will be able to deal directly with the owner rather than through an agent.

  7. you mean people actually look at those things !!

whilst thai visa has every right to pollute its pages with these annoying distractions in order to generate income , i am surprised that , in a world where we cant do anything or go anywhere or even sit quietly somewhere, without being visually or aurally assaulted by companies and businesses intruding into our lives uninvited trying to interest us in yet some more useless <deleted> , that people still have an appetite to click on these irritating little ads.

i thought a while back that you had reached saturation point , but i had obviously underestimated your ability for annoying us , and i am sure that before long your marketing maniacs will have dreamt up even more ways to put ads on the pages and fill in any blank square cm with ads....... ads within posts ????? thats just daft.

do you guys ever watch true vision , do you enjoy being interrupted every few minutes by ads , promotions and all the other garbage that interferes with the enjoyment of the programme that you would like to watch.

your moderation policy is obviously intended to weed out trashy posters and up the ante re. quality of subject matter , but your advertising tsunami is at odds with that.

is there no way to turn the danm things off !!

  8. ads,ads,ads.

on the top of the page , at the side of the page and at the bottom of the page. at least they can be semi-ignored as they are in my peripheral vision or clicked upon if they purport to offer anything useful , which is very rarely if at all.

but now you have started to whack them right in the middle of the page between posts , and some of the buggers now obscure parts of the posts themselves and cant be moved or closed.

when reading about thai politics , is it really necessary to bang an ad inbetween posts asking me if i want to sign on with a thai ladyboy escort agency .

please , have some respect for the lifeblood of your operation , the posters ..... and put the ads where they belong and change your marketing manager.

  9. immigration officials make lots of mistakes with dates and stamps , they are rarely picked up until much later either when your passport is checked on leaving the country or at an immigration office when applying for an extension.

    from my own experience .....

    1. when renewing a retirement stay at suan phlu in bkk , the penpusher there noticed that the airport arrival stamp (issued months before) did not have the officers signature on it , i was told to go back to the airport , find the officer and get him to sign it before they would extend my retirement stay , i tried to explain that it would be impossible for me to get to the arrivals section via departures and then find a man who because he didnt sign it was anonymous. it took over an hour of discussion with the supervisor there before they would give me my extension.

    2. a date was stamped on an entry stamp in red ink instead of blue ink , or the other way round. this was noticed at hua hin immigration office and caused a long delay before my 90 day reporting could be completed.

they will not admit their mistakes and the onus seems to be on the passport holder to make sure dates etc. are done correctly.

  10. With the low value of the pound this is an excellent time to import such cars, customs are the fly in the ointment.

I hope this goes well for you, good luck. Nice car TR6.

now if a classic car restoration company were set up here for the express purpose of restoring importing cars and then sending them back out of the country again , i.e. the cars will never be used in thailand , just worked on here , it might be a different matter.

could be a good business idea too.

  11. Klai Kang Won province would have Hua Hin City as its centre and consist of Pran Buri and Sam Roi Yot districts, which are now in Prachuap Khiri Khan, and Cha-am district, which is now part of Phetchaburi.
Though the economic performance of Cha-am would never surpass that of Hua Hin, the MP said, Cha-am's residents are proud of their own identity, given differences in culture and traditions between the two districts.

cha-am is a bit , how can i put it , downmarket , low rent , cheap and generally unworthy to be considered part of hua hin.

cha-am has its place , as do its inhabitants of course , but until they smarten up a bit and increase their spending power , that place isnt in hua hin.

would be a bit like incorporating clacton with st. tropez.

not that i am a snob or anything. :o
