  1. In the past the work permit tertiary stage syphilis blood test was not required in Bangkok except for immigrant workers from neighboring countries.  All that was required was the docs signature on the form.

The hospitals and clinics saying it was a requirement were mostly just scamming extra fees.  I still wonder what the true situation is.  Maybe MedConsult had some forms refused.

Yes, fairly sure there is no quarantine going into Surat. It was a red zone itself, until recently. Recently traveled from a red zone to Samui. Just a screening and an app.

Unfortunately, according to Bangkok Airways, Koh Samui requires a negative Covid report presented at the airport if flying from Bangkok.  Maybe I will do that..... Just a bit of a pain and expense.

I did my work permit medical certificate at MedConsult in April. The syphilis test is pretty much manditory as there has been a government crack down, but they uses one of those instant kits where they draw blood from your figure tip. I found it completely painless and quick, they do it right there at the office. I think it was an extra 300 for the test, but don't quote me on that.

I still wonder if it is really needed or if Medconsult has jumped on the band wagon.   I think last year they asked me if I needed the blood test and I said no and it was not required.

  4. For the last 10 years or so I've used Dr. Donna at MedConsult Asia for my work permit medical certificate.  I've never done the blood test and it has never been an issue.  Recently I have read reports that the Bangkok labor office is requiring it of all applicants.  Any recent reports from people who did not submit the form?  My work permit is from Thammasat, a public university, so maybe that has made a difference?

I know for years many have insisted the blood test is an absolute requirement and that the form must come from a hospital and not a clinic, but that has not been my experience., so far anyway......

Yes, I drove. Seatran ferry is operating. Abbreviated schedule, but a few ferries a day. A small screening process, once you get off the boat. Easier if not coming from a red zone. But doable even if coming from a red zone, with the app and a screening. Samui is very chill right now. Cheap and uncrowded. A little depressing as thousands of businesses were shut down. But, still nice.

Phangan by comparison seemed lively, and only minor signs of distress. Worth it. Phangan is a spectacular island. Amazing food. Cool younger crowd.

Stayed beachfront in Lamai, and on the north end of Srithanu in Phangan. Tons of availability on Samui. Harder to find great spots on Phangan. But, do a little research. All good. Worth it.

I wish I could find out if I can fly into  Surat Thani without quarantine from Bangkok.  Sounds good.

Barrow had a link a while back listing provincial requirements but it's now gone.

So much anger toward vegans!  I suggest you consider the possibility that it's your problem, not theirs.  Just a thought...

Honestly I wonder if any of you have ever  been preached at by a vegan. I doubt it. I reckon it's just a opportunity to vent some free-floating anger about a whole variety of things.   Which I get, I sure do.

Look in your owner's manual, it tells you all the preventive maintenance you should have done.

I agree.  Best odds, although still poor, of getting all recommended maintenance done is to take it to an actual Honda shop and go over the required maintenance in the manual with the service manager.  It probably won't get done as well or as properly as it should but it's still cheap enough to give it a go. Someone posted a 125i Click manual in English here

  8. My Microlife monitor seems to have died today.  It's acting like the cuff is leaking and continues pumping without stopping.

Anyway,  any suggestions for a cheap replacement.  I see some Chinese brands for 4-500 baht on Shoppee.

I'm not strongly concerned about perfect accuracy.  I'm generally 130-140 over 90 or so, sometimes better and sometimes worse.  I just like to check occasionally.

I'm going back to the USA next week and have been doing a lot of research.  Here's what I found...

US citizens only need a valid 3 day Covid negative test.  PCR or Antigen test is OK.

Supposed 10 day self quarantine for non vaccinated arrivals and only a 7 day quarantine for vaccers.

How this can be enforced is dubious.

There is an Attestation form that needs to be printed out and signed to show at US Customs.  You can find

a link on most airline websites in the Covid section.

Here is the attestation form.  It doesn't mention quarantine but the CDC page confirms what you wrote about 7-10 day quarantine.  https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/travelers/after-travel-precautions.html Interesting that people are reporting no quarantine required. Is it not even mentioned by immigration when you enter the USA?

I just recently traveled from Chiang Mai to the USA last week.   You’ll need a negative Covid test results in order to board your international flight to the USA in BKK.  There are several places in CM to get the test.  There is already another thread on the CM Forum that lists a couple of places you could check out.  We went to Dr. Morgan’s clinic on Hang Dong Rd for our tests.   We got swabbed in the morning and then received the results that evening.  They are familiar with what type of test is needed and also provide a Fit to Fly form signed by the doctor.  Everything was pretty straight forward.  One of the biggest challenges was the leg from Chiang Mai to Bangkok.   We booked a flight on Thai Smile and our original flight was cancelled and they automatically booked us on a later flight.  That flight later got cancelled a week before we left and they automatically booked us on another flight, which ended up being the only flight remaining that day.  Thankfully, that flight flew as scheduled.  Friends of ours booked Air Asia to go from CM to BKK.  They had a similar experience and their flight got cancelled multiple times until Air Asia finally told them that there were no more flights that day.  They received a credit voucher for a future flight (not their money back) and in the end they booked the one Thai Smile flight flying that day as well.  My advice would be to look at Thai Smile to get to Bangkok.  Our flight out of BKK was at 7am so we flew the day before and stayed the night in a hotel near the airport.  Everything went smoothly.  Just make sure to have a good, comfortable mask that you’ll be wearing for a long time.

Are you required to quarantine on arrival in the USA? Thanks.

  11. Everybody is proud of what a good rider they are.  And then they get hit from behind or broadsided by a moron or knocked over in a million other ways.  Won't happen to me they say because I pay attention!

I use my horn as a precaution and not in anger a lot and have for 20 years in Thailand.  Never once had an angry altercation.  Screw politeneness.  Here I am! is what I want everyone to know when they are considering a dangerous maneauver that potentially threatens my safety and that is everyday pretty much.

  12. Not too much help to you, but I did have my Honda Wave horn replaced with a louder one at a Honda dealer in Chiang Mai, but it's not an air horn.  I also had a fairly loud turn signal beeper installed.   They knew exactly what I wanted and why and keep both items in stock.

I also ride short distances in Bangkok.  It's crazy out there!

Jetts Fitness at One Nimman has 2 of them.

Thanks! I forgot about Jetts Fitness.  I would like to find a place without all the contract / joining fee / door fob fee games. But I may have to go there.

  14. Thanks all.  I was concerned it was some sort of tamper proof screw.  The gym I joined recently has all new equipment except they improperly installed all the handles on the eliptical machine so there is an annoying amount of play to it.  It's a common brand called Matrix that I have used at many other gyms so I know it should be movement free.

I have asked a few times to have the handles properly installed but they have ignored this annoying picky farang.   However, maybe the problem is that the machines are assembled by the Matrix distributor and they don't have the proper tool.

I'll give the suggestions here a go and see if I can fix it myself.    Thanks.
