  1. I understand the clinic is important, but to me it's the skill, empathy and integrity of the individual dentist who is working on my teeth that's the critical factor.

  2. Not that it matters much...., but Ensogo informed me that the coupon is a voucher and since my total order from the menu exceeded the value of the voucher than I had to pay VAT and service in cash. If my order was less than the value of the voucher than it's covered by the voucher and I don't pay anything additional. That makes sense.

The Thai's do use net to mean including VAT and sevice. Go figure.

  3. Chosing a study is a peronal choice. There are different methods of studying and learning, you must find one that suits you best. Most will over a free lesson so you can get a feeling for the school. I would visit several and chose the one you like best.

Good advice! But it probably would help to get some experiences and recommendations. Don't you think so?

  4. Looks like I might lose my work permit and B visa and I'm looking at my options. I have a friend studying Thai language at a school and getting an ED visa.

I'm wondering if anyone can recommend specific schools where both the quality of instruction and the visa support are very good? I'm in Bangkok on the BTS.

I know that some schools require a years payment in advance. I would prefer to pay on quarterly basis. Any experiences?

    Thanks!

  5. The Hyatt Erawan has a nice gym, but membership isnt cheap...

The Hyatt gym is great! Do it if you can afford it. It's the opposite of Cal Wow in every way. What a pleasure.

I also used to go to what was then the Hilton on Wittayu, i guess now it's Nailert or something. Not bad if you like tennis.

I used to go to the Marriot Mayfair but they stopped allowing outsiders a few years ago. May have started again....

  6. There are also dozens, perhaps hundreds, of recommendations in the Health sub-forum here.

I didn't see any recommendations for specific dentists. There are a lot of people who like various clinics though. Maybe I'm not searching correctly. It never seems to work well for me.

    Thanks for the other suggestions!

  7. Based on your needs, I would recommend Dr. Thara Srikrai at Thantakit Dental Center. He is at their main branch at the Thantakit Dental Building on New Petchburi road. Not cheap, but it is a one stop shop and he is very good. My wife and I just used him for dental implants and absolutely no complaints from either of us. They have their own dental lab so crowns, implants etc. are quick and any adjustments needed are done in less than an hour. We were referred to him by our regular dentist (Dick Graham at JUSMAG).

Excellent! Thanks, that's just what I was looking for.

  8. I need to complete a root canal and crown and my regular dentist has injured herself and is out of the business for a while.

Can anyone recommend a dentist that they have had a dood experience with. I know that many people like to suggest a clinic or hospital that they like, but I'm not looking for that, Just looking for a dentist by name. Price doesn't really matter either. I'm happy to pay for quality.

    Thanks!

  9. Yes you can get fat from eating too much durian a lot of calories. there are facts that durien react adversely with alcohol, people have died of excessive amount of alcohol and durian.

 It must be a fact because so many people believe it's true.

  10. I like using the various coupon sites, however I wonder about the quality of service from some of them. I sent the email below to Ensogo a week ago and again a couple of days ago, but I guess they are too busy to answer a reasonable question........

What do you think this means: - Price is Net (includes all service charge and VAT).

    Dear Ensogo,

Could you please clarify what the following statement on my XXXXXXX Bar and Restaurant coupon means:

    - Price is Net (includes all service charge and VAT).

I used the voucher today and they charged me Service and VAT on the total bill and insisted that that's what the above statement means.

I went there for lunch. The coupon value was 450 baht and they charged Service and Vat on that 450 Baht.

    Thanks!

  11. Thanks! From your reply it seems that I can switch from a Non-B to a Non-O if I do the 7 day extension. Is the change to Non-O considered an extension or a new visa?

Anybody have any experience if they are asking for supporting documents along with the income verification from the USA embassy? I probably can't arrange the documents in the couple of weeks I have and I sure would like to avoid a trip out of Thailand.

  12. Looks like my job may be ending and with it my work permit and Non-immigrant B visa.

    Couple of questions.

Can I switch to a retirement visa without leaving the country?

Will Bangkok immigration accept the American embassy income verification letter with no supporting documents for the visa switch or for the first extension if I need to leave the country and get the initial retirement visa at a Thai embassy or consulate?

    Thanks!

  13. The banks are more than happy to count it out and give you paper money in return. It usually turns out to be anywhere from 4-8k baht! It's like free money!

What bank? Where? I've never found a bank in Bangkok that was happy to count it. Last week I asked at the the main office of Bangkok Bank on Silom. Nope....not happy at all with idea of counting my change. So please, where exactly is this bank that will happily count my 10000-15000 baht in coins? I'm happy to pay for the service as well!

What a pleasure it would bring to my life if I knew someplace that would painlessly count my coins. I'm not interested in any complexity in the coin transaction beyond dropping the coins off, having them counted and going on my way..... I don't want to help them count them, I don't want to put them in bags, I don't want to seperate them into denominations, I don't want to have to find someelse to do any of the above.

I just want to pay a commision to count my coins. It doesn't seem to be a servide any bank here provides!

  14. I bought a Kindle 3 recently in the USA and downloaded a few books. Nice.

Now back home in Bangkok I can't get the WiFi to work using my home WiFi. I'm using the correct password. Seems to be a configuration problem. Tried setting up a new network on the Kindle but don't know what to put in the blanks. My ISP is True.

I can call True but the chances I'd find someone there familiar with setting up networks on Kindle are slim to none, I imagine.

    Any ideas?

Use your WEP key and not your wifi password. True quickly and competently got me set up in 3 minutes.

  15. Usually, but not always, Starbuck's is well air conditioned, plays good music at a reasonable level, has comfortable chairs and has newspapers. The coffee tastes good to me, but

I could name a half-a-dozen coffee shops in Pattaya that offer all of the above (and usually free wi-fi as well) at at cheaper prices for similar quality coffee.

It's subjective, of course. But I don't think you can name even one! :) Yeah you can get a cheaper cup of cofee, but the music will be loud and crap, or the chairs will be cheap, or the AC will be lousy etc.....

    Bon Cafe

    Coffeemania

    Bake & Brew

    Loaf Bakery

    Delice Cafe

All of the above have air-conditioning and comfortable seating. They also all have free newspapers and most have free wi-fi (which most Charbucks lack).

As for the chains, they too are all better than Charbucks, including:

    Black Canyon

    S & P Blue Cup

    Au Bon Pain

    and even Mc Cafe.

Cheers! I've been to a few of those places, although not all. For me, they don't even come close to the comfort of the 2nd floor of the Starbuck's on Soi 13 in Pattaya which is a consistently fine place to relax. I'm sure they are all fine places though.......

The coffee tastes good to me, but the comfort is what I'm paying for and I'm happy to pay it. There is no competition that even tries to offer all of the above.
