  1. But my problem.....still looking for one of those ceramic water dispensers that you just put the 5 gallon water bottle on and it has a spigot.

so simple and if I can figure how to post a photo, I'll do it in a separate post so I don't hijack your thread.

Yes you mean one of these ( I think they are called water crocks )

I had one in the States but have not seen them here, yet

    crock_with_3_gallon.jpg

To the OP I have seen the regular electric water coolers in Home Pro & Carrefore I believe

But it uses electric so you might be better served with one of those tiny refrigerators

instead. Since your bedroom is so far from the kitchen you could keep a few things in there

I've wanted to buy one of those for years. Never saw it here. No idea why!

  2. I wouldn't touch Air Asia again with a bargepole. I made a booking on their website for a friend (Chiang Mai to Phuket) and an error occured which was proven to be attributable to their website. Upon arrival at CM Airport the following day to check that the payment had been received, it was noted that the wrong date was shown for the flight. The Air Asia staff were not prepared to be of any help whatsoever, despite the problem having arisen due to their faulty website. My friend had to forfeit the cost of the ticket and decided to book a ticket with another carrier. If Air Asia was the only service available, I would personally choose to make the trip overland.

They have decided it's cheaper to lose a small percentage of customers than it is to provide quality (or even fair and honest) service. It sucks when you are one of the random ones tossed overboard, but that is that. It is what it is. The company simply doesn't care.

I spent two years travelling twice weekly between Bangkok and Chiang Mai and I learned more than most about how they work. I put up with the occasional absurdity where I lost money or time because of the cheap prices. Most people don't have a very bad experience though.

  3. Yes, the character of Willard M. Romney should indeed be a big issue.

"He is the most intellectually dishonest human being in the history of politics."

    - Barney Frank, Congressman, Massachusetts

Today on Real Time Frank doubled down on that quote and said he would now cut out the word: INTELLECTUALLY clap2.gif

Willard M. Romney is so radically and speedily flip floppy that I challenge anyone to come up with any politician that comes close in modern American political history. That is why I think there is a chance that even though Romney will lose on November 6, the term ROMNESIA may enter the American political lexicon permanently to describe that kind of political behavior for others in future.

I just watched Real Time. Barney Frank is an American hero!

  4. I bought quite a lot of Ensogo coupons before they switched to all Thai. Too bad! They are still the only one that regularly offers good restaurants and good vouchers. Groupon seems to often offer set menus that include a glass of wine or some other weirdness to inflate the presumed value of the deal. I can almost hear the salesperson selling the idea to the restaurant......

  5. He doesn't want to donate. He wants to trash Obama some more. Obviously super rich guys like Trump stand to benefit big time by Romney's pro rich policies. The guy is a birther and Romney has actually associated with him as if he is to be taken seriously (shame on Romney). The birther movement has a strong element of racism in it. Sleazy stunts like this won't win any new votes for Romney.

    http://globalpublics...-trump-fantasy/

but doesn't Obama deserve to be thrashed JT? after all Obama virtually bankrupted the Greatest Nation on Earth™ wasting trillions by invading Afghanistan and Iraq and then causing the big global financial crisis in 2008.

in my opinion the honourable thing for Obama is handing over to Romney and going back to Texas. crazy.gif

Let's not forget that Obama funded those two wars by borrowing billions and billions from China after giving everyone a big tax cut and not even including that borrowing in his budget. He deserves to lose!

  6. It would be so interesting to know what's really going on. Clearly they want to hang on to Paragon as long as possible to find a buyer. I'm guessing the bankruptcy judge is allowing that as the best option for the creditors. Just guessing. They might be allowed to keep Paragon open for a while longer.......The equipment is getting a little smelly at Paragon. I gave up going into the showers and locker room a long time ago. However, I'm going at off peak times occasionally and its still a functioning gym with high quality fixed weights and excellent (although unmaintained) aerobic machines.

  7. I was in there last year when the previous manager had a meltdown on some nice Thai folks who were upset that they were out of bagels on the last day of their Ensogo coupon's validity. It wasn't pretty! I've been boycotting them ever since, not that it matters to anyone. Good to hear there is a new manager, eye liner and all. I did get a couple bagels that were more hole than bagel when they first opened, but that's life... smile.png

  8. I have tried to research it and I can't find any reason why the stuff with the "mother" is any better than normal raw apple cider vinegar, but it is twice the price. I have stopped going for the expensive brands with the "mother" as it seems like a waste of money to me.

I don't know about 'the mother' - never heard of it - but apple cider vinegar has hundreds of uses around the house, especially kitchen. My favourite use for it is in the washing machine. Fabric softener leaves a silicon coating which builds up after a dozen or so washes, a cup full of apple cider vinegar in with the wash strips it all off and gives nice and fluffy fresh towels again. As well as other clothes/bedding of course.

I've recently met someone here in CM who told me he had developed a product - I think he said he was a doctor (English) and has been researching and experimenting with Manuka Honey for years before coming up with whatever this thing is. PM if you want his email address. Not an endorsement, I've only met him once but he seems very passionate about his product.

With anything like the honey which is too heavy to ship, I make it known to all friends back home that if they or anyone they know will be heading to Thailand for a holiday or business trip, to ask if they would mind bringing something 3 or 4kg for me. We are orginginally English, lived in NZ for almost 2 years then in Australia for 18 years, so we're fortunate to have lots of people either coming to Thailand or know of someone who is. Don't even have to be in CM - internal postage in Thailand is reasonable enough. I usually order online and get the item/s delivered to the person who will be coming over. My last visitor (from England) brought me 2kg PG Tips teabags and 3 bottles of Ariel Gel Washing Liquid. And 1.5kg of Parmesan. We always encourage people to travel light in case they buy a lot of things over here (not for selfish reasons, of course).

Perhaps if enough people want Manuka honey, some kind of co-operative could be set up - a fairly large order together with combined postage would knock a bit off the price. I'm not volunteering to set this up, but for those of you who use it, it could be an idea, and not only for CM but all over Thailand.

EDIT: Fake honey? Is there anything in the world that can't be faked now?

    Fake eggs in China....

  9. I've been watching that guy in Phuket (maybe it's Samui?) try to sell his bike for weeks. I hate the fact that he is pretending in his ads that the bike is somehow legal and that all the documents are there to get it registered. It needs to be emissions tested and that's perhaps 75 thousand baht with no guarantee it will pass. Times have changed. It's harder and harder to find a fixer with the connections to get a green book. It's not legal to ride that bike. It will be nothing but headaches.

I've been watching with some amusement, too.

    It's Samui.

He first advertised it in June 2011 for 135,000 baht and it's been advertised non-stop ever since - 14 months.

I was interested - until I also found out that it actually has an 800cc motor that's had one cylinder blanked (presumably to make the Green Book cheaper).

He's now moved away from Samui, has dropped the price to 80,000 and it's still for sale.

    R

I'm happy to see that the guy can't sell his bike despite his many disingenuous ads. Down to 60K now .......
