  1. I just wanted to jump in on what Gonzo is saying. I think it's awesome what you are trying to do, i don't mean to come off negative and say "you CAN'T" I just want know to know what to expect. Since I love these bikes, I am always on the look out for more, so I will keep searching and if I find any leads, I will PM you.

There's only one question I can't answer, and that's "What electric start engine will fit on a Yamaha Chappy with little to no modification?".

  2. 200-400ms for me. Just played for an hour or so and have a lvl 9 Monk. I only tried the Monk and DH in Beta.

True Cable 10mb, but it's been crappy lately.

  3. What we're saying that even trashed and knackered you are looking at 4-6k

I just bought one that has a non-working 50cc engine, but modified fork, swingarm and handle bars for 6500B and that was because I was a friend. It has been precut to fit a 100cc+ honda engine.

Now, you can build a 100cc chaly for under 10k if you take your time. But a 100cc chaly with Electric start and a side cart is going to take a lot of wheeling and dealing. First step is to take rides out away from towns and locate some knackered chaly and pray you can get one for 5k or less. Then search online for a dream engine, you're going to have to browse through thai websites. Maybe 4-6k for an electric start engine.

  4. I have built one of these in the past and am building one now.

There are plenty for sale for decent prices around Chiang Mai,

You can hit the Saturday market Gat nua (i always mispronounce this) out in San Patong.

There are a few for sale around Wat Pong Noi / Umong

    www.mocyc.com and chalythailand.com

I saw a Chappy for sale outside of Robinson. When you come out of the parking lot from the side (Highway 108) immediately there is a mechanic on the right hand side with a blue chappy.

You can find plenty of engines on those websites as well.

Might be able to find a 100cc Chaly for under 10k

Take your time, the price of Chaly's have skyroceted in the last few years. They used to be 3k, now you can find lots of people asking 5-8k for a stock one.

I don't have much experience with the Chappy, but they might even be cheaper.

Might be able to put on a Yamaha Belle engine, and those bikes are cheaaaapp.

Sorry, I kinda let this post flow with my thoughts.

  5. Tony has an SR400 or two doesn't he? Swore I saw one when I went past. I am interested in getting one and using the Chaly for around town. But I want to try it out first.

  6. Is this the back side of the mountain which, right now, is a slick muddy soup winding around the Lychee plantations?

I went down that for the first time in my Friend's Vitara, a ton of fun, but not something I would want to do too often. We almost slid off to a nasty tumble once or twice. Also watched a Thai put his 2wd pickup into two large holes and get stuck at an unpleasant angle about .75m away from a 500m decline. He proceeded to try and neutral drop his way out of the whole and only succeeded in almost killing himself as he increase the angle his truck was pinned at...

  7. Here's some pictures of a Chaly bike I built a few years ago.

Sold this one and never saw it again.

Still have another one that at some ponit I'll throw together.

If you have any questions let me know.

I remember you building that, you finished it after I left the country and moved back to the states.

Going to build this at my friend's shop again, this time I will be more hands on and learn a bit more.

Didn't you throw a wave engine on yours?

  8. I hit up Gat (ngua?) in San Patong on Saturday and picked up a Honda nice, they had a lot of bikes there, including KSRs.

I went to the 7-11 at the beginning of Wu Lai road at about 5am and got one of the yellow trucks for 20B. Took the 30min ride out there, found a bike I liked, bought it and rode it back.

Nice what bike did you end up with?

I should have capitalized that, Honda Nice. It's a 110cc 4 speed with a clutch.

I hope to have time this week and next to rip it apart and add it all to this:

I hope the larger disc brake will fit on the Chaly. The engine will fit with ease, the chaly I bought had a honda 100cc engine at one point, so it will bolt up in 5 minutes. I'd like to use the entire front fork from handle bars to disc brake from the Nice. I also want to retrofit the Nice's speedometer and instrument cluster into the Chaly's housing.

  9. I'm at Fitness Thailand and the only complaint I have is that there is only 1 squat rack. There is a smith machine, but whats the point?

But everyone is quite nice at FT and if you want to jump in and use equipment and trade off sets you most likely will be able to. However, I have made it a point to try and get there early to beat the rush.

I might look around more before I commit for a year. Any other place around 7-10k a year that has a squat rack or two and is not always being used?

  10. I hit up Gat (ngua?) in San Patong on Saturday and picked up a Honda nice, they had a lot of bikes there, including KSRs.

  11. Ok, so I am looking for something between 1.1-1.5kg The gym I am going to has, at the smallest, 2.5kg. I am on a program where I up the weight ~5lbs each time I do that exercise, so for my squats I am adding 15lbs over a 3day split and I am going to reach a point soon where I will fail when adding 5kg each time, I've already reached that point on my presses...

Anyways, so I went to sportsworld at KSK and they only had 1 1.1kg weight. Central department store had nothing, an exercise machine shop at the moat near Ratchamankhan wanted 1400B for the pair, which is INSANE

So if you know of any other reasonably priced places, please inform me, else I will have to ask if they can order the weights for me at KSK, but I don't want to wait.

  12. Honest question, You want a truck for personal use, have no intention of hauling anything other than a set of golf clubs and groceries. You are interested in longevity and fuel efficiency.

So why not consider one of the many new "eco" cars out there?

Suzuki Swift, Honda Brio, Mitu Mirage to name a few.

They all get great gas mileage, a properly maintained gasoline engine will last 300k KM, maybe not as easy as a diesel, and they are a few 100k cheaper, loaded, than the pick ups you are looking at.

Plus, I would think if you chose cloth over leather for ethical reasons, these would be an even greener option.

Now, if you considered these but still want to pick up, good luck finding one that you want :) I just wanted to suggest another option for you.

  13. Off subject as I am curious to ask about the spares you are using for the Chaly from the Honda Wave as I have a Honda Chaly at home and just had a honda wave engine installed in the Chaly but would like to change out everything possible as it has been sitting collecting dust for a few years.

    Any advice would be welcomed.

    Thanks

You can fit quite a bit, the front forks (they will require some cutting to shorten them), i am hoping the disc brakes are not too big for the Chaly rims, the controls and brake levers, the wiring harness, the shocks if they're better. Though you will have to be a bit creative with some things, like the wheel/splash guards will need a way to be mounted since the Wave fork will be different. Your Chaly will also be much taller than it is in stock form.

Vel_Tins: Thanks a bunch for the info. Luckily most people are showing a correct green book and taxes paid along with pics of the bike. But I still have to deal with sending $ and hoping they send the bike and that it arrives and is in the condition they describe....

  14. Ok, So I am trying to find a Honda Nice 110cc to use a s donor bike (engine, brakes, forks etc) for my Honda Chaly and have had no luck in Chiang Mai, but I have seen plenty online. I want to purchase one and then transfer it so the engine etc are in my name so if I get stopped I have a paper trail for all my parts. So, can I have a bike posted to me and have the greenbook sent to me and get it transferred (guessing the other party needs to start this process) or do we both have to be there to transfer it?

Thanks all, I am new to all the transferring procedures and tried using search to answer these questions but didn't see the answers

  15. I paid 48baht for the train from BKK to Arayaprathet and $12 or so to share a camry into S.R.

The train takes 5-6hrs, but it's a great ride, hawkers selling fresh goods at every stop, and no stopping at scam stops.

Though, I missed it on the way back because the tourist idiots had to have their cigs and waste time at the scam stop... twice, it's a dam_n 3hr ride from S.R. to Poipet...

The next time I do this, I will do the train again, rather wake up at 4am and spend 3hrs longer and not have to deal with a bus full of people from KSR and be able to get up and walk around. Then only stick to taking camrys from the border to S.R.

Hum....I took this train some years ago and I do not recall anything but a slow, endless, boring, uncomfortable ride

Unless they have upgraded from third (by lowest standard) to second class cars ( by higher standard) I just can't see how good was your trip. Of course no one is going to bother you at all and you won't have to make any scam stop, as you put it, as the speed of this train allows snails to follow the trail at sight

Again, one finds pleasure wherever one feels....

Nope it's still third class. But I spent my time talking to locals and enjoying the scenery. I did make the mistake once of not getting train tickets ahead of time and had to take third from BKK to Chiang Mai. At night the open windows made it colder than the aircon cars, but the seats were so dam_n uncomfortable...
