  1. Where's this? I never have a problem locally (Samut Prakan) with the few meds I need. 3 pharmacies on the high street and all have staff any time I go in.
  2. (should have said it's android). That occurred to me. dtac installed its app as soon as I inserted the sim, so perhaps it could be. But why now and, more significantly, how do I get rid of it? I have already disabled alerts in Settings (>advanced settings >wireless emergency alerts) but it still appears on the Apps list and shows no means of turning off permissions.
  3. Coincidence? This am I read (in a media we don't mention) about a 'mobile phone emergency warning system ready next year'. Hours later, looking for something else, I see an app called "wireless emergency alerts", which I'll swear was not there last time I looked. it is in the app list in Settings but no icon on app pages, and it has all manner of permissions I can't turn off. All I can do is turn it to silent. I'm on dtac. Anyone else got this, or has it always been there? Should I worry? My phone is quite new and not cheap, so I don't really want to root it and risk bricking it.
  4. simple. Ban media globally from covering any news from Thailand, eg shootings, scams, stuff we are not allowed to mention, etc. Include news about Thailand, eg from New York about stuff we can only read in foreign media. Good luck with that.
  5. so how come you know she's going to "sue"? Nothing to that effect in the reports quoted. Tell us please WHO she will sue? Maybe you know the result too? How do you know the employer is female? I assume she will go for maximum compensation for the victim's family (and her company), which is no more than reasonable.
  6. PM Advocates for Strengthening Gun Laws Absolute standard proforma response every time someone gets shot. Yawn.
  7. Mate, you must be really special - the rules don't apply to you. Don't want to comply? Bye. And what's "a temporary long term stay not a retirement stamp requisit"? Another special one for you and the wife? Get real or sell the condo.
  8. most of the world is overfilled with"dumbos". Why pick on Africa. Ever been there?
  9. About 40 years ago, that was an ad for VW in the US. Finally got to you, I guess.
  10. Thanks for this, I had no idea. Tell you what. You stand at the junction off Sathorn, and every time Plod comes out of his box, you explain it to him.
  11. Yes, it's all surprisingly subjective. I gave up driving in BKK some time ago but I do recall getting a ticket for turning right from a "no right-turn" lane and, a week later, getting a ticket from a different BIB for NOT turning right from the same lane (Sathorn area). Arrows? They can't even see the Indians here..............
  12. and tastes as convincing as Bud Light. Try coffee instead.
  13. then I assume you must be an agent. Silly comment. Won't be trusting any of your posts from now on.
  14. I was not even suggesting he was not doing it himself, obviously (but not to you). The comment and sentiment is mine, as part of response to his mention of the cost. And if you bother to read the OP you'll see it is "extension based on MARRIAGE", not retirement.
  15. Yeah, it's a pain, I have just completed my own annual battle (Samut Prakan). But no novelties this year, except they have changed the form declaring you understand the enormous import of the application. I downloaded the one from the IO website but of course it's out of date. Did you not need it (as it is not in your list)? I always need only TWO months bank balance above 400K, as per. And I only copy relevant (ie used) pport pages. Of course it's a hassle each year but it's actually easier than many other countries and much cheaper. Certainly it is NOT worth using one of these “agents” that some AN posters rave about - unless of course your marriage or documents are dodgy.
  16. Not quite raining steelwork, is it? Although there was one on soi 23 many years ago when they were putting up the Jasmine building. Crane collapsed around 20 storeys up and just fell; poor s0d in the cab was apparently still alive when they got to him, but not for long.
  17. Nine years ago they had no electric buses, let alone a card system for them. I got as far as this about Hop cards from a press release last December: "In the first package, passengers pay only 50 baht per day and can ride electric buses and boats of operators using Thai Smile Bus platform with unlimited trips. In the second package, commuters pay 40 baht a day to ride electric buses in the Thai Smile Bus network in over 120 routes in Bangkok with unlimited trips." But as for actually finding the card, let alone "120 routes" run by TSB (as opposed to BMTA), I got no further.
  18. Jumped on a bus today which had no conductor/ess. A couple of people who got on asked the driver and bought some form of card, one person also boarded and swiped a card (3 others, like me, did nothing). I believe this is a "HOP" card, but I can only find Thai references to it that are nonsense when translated, although one site suggested it might be for 40-baht-per-day unlimited travel, which hardly makes sense if I am making a single journey (which I more usually make on a 8-baht non-aircon). Another clearly referred to using Krungthai bank for purchase, which won't work for me. Anybody shed light?
  19. Just underlines what I have said and you failed to understand: if I vote no I am branded as a racist. You need to get out more, or eat fresh fruit or something.
  20. how about Lidia Thorpe, a first-nations federal senator with whose views I otherwise disagree? https://www.abc.net.au/news/2023-06-20/lidia-thorpe-will-back-no-campaign-against-indigenous-voice-/102500592 Or Warren Mundine AO, also inconveniently (for you) blackfella: https://www.theaustralian.com.au/nation/indigenous/opponents-to-an-indigenous-voice-to-parliament-concede-their-campaign-is-low-key/news-story/472199474b5ca36a36922166e69a2dd2
  21. "Vague" is precisely what the referendum proposal is. And that is why I will vote 'no'. Weeks out from the vote itself I am totally fed up with the propaganda that 'everyone voting no is a racist'. I want some progress for the [insert you own term for first nations - the ones I know in our local are happy with 'blackfella' but that's not PC enough]. This "Voice" gives no promise of progress, only more consultation about grievances. It's kicking the issue into the long grass, amplified by Albanese's threat not to visit the issue again for a generation if the vote goes against him (and his instant rent-a-rant when Dutton said he would do it again). He has already shot himself in the foot by allowing the vote to be politicised, with each side getting massive funding. A referendum is not for win or lose, it's to establish what the voters think on an issue. I lived in South Africa through the times of the TRC - truth and reconciliation commission so wonderfully led by Des Tutu. Not saying it's appropriate for Oz, but at least it was something that helped. This Voice will do nothing whatever for the people it is intended for, only display a hypocritical self-satisfaction for some whites* if it's a 'yes'. * not much has been said about the millions of Australian citizens of, eg Vietnamese, Indian, Greek, Italian origin, for whom this must be a puzzle. After all, this First Nations stuff has nothing to do with them. How should they vote?
