  1. Has anyone ever seen rat traps anywhere for sale? I've been looking around, but haven't had any success yet. Any help would be appreciated!

If you're not sure what they are, this is what they look like:

    http://rat-hunter.com/stories/2006/paul-1-...or-rat-trap.jpg

EDIT: And, yes, I used the search feature first. Nothing specific.

i buy this trap, they are metal, pretty heavy duty ! i get them in a shop selling plastic / hardware !

If you want me to take a pic of it and post it ! ask

i use sometime glue ( but that cruel ), they clever rats here ! with big IQ

they do not like cheese, prefer porc or shrimp, once one got the porc but did not set the trap, after tied the porc with dental froth i got it.

  2. By the way, anyone know the restaurant name who have Goose instead of duck for ' peking duck '

    Pancake( peking duck receipt )

    230 of plain flour

    250 boiling water

Makes a dough with water + flour let rest for 15 minutes.

Form the dough in a roll 5-cm diameter and cut it in 1.5-cm slice.

Roll the slice into 15-cm diameter pancakes.

Brush each pancake one side only with sesame oil and place one pancake on top of another, the oiled sides facing each other.

Sandwich the remaining pancakes in the same way.

Place a heavy, ungreased frying pane over a moderate heat, when hot place a double –pancake in the pane and heat for about 3 minutes on each side (some brown spots will appear and some of the pancake will start to bubble)

When cook pull the pancake apart into two, fold each one across the centre, on the greased side.

Steam for 10 minutes before serving.

I done a peking duck once, said I am a pro at food, been working to a few 3* Michelin places before.

The complicated food I ever cook was ‘ le lievre a la royal ‘

My duck turn up good, but my pancake was still to sick***

My suggestion you really need to have a laminoir or a heavy rolling pin, a wood one will not be good enough

  3. Other treads have already discussed the price of gold, so lets skip that part. You have decided to buy your first 10 baht of gold, but how do you actually do this?

Do you just walk into any gold shop and get your gold or are there things to watch out for?

Do you buy manufactured gold (brace or necklaces) or a bar of gold?

How pure is 24 carat gold? 99.9…% and how can you make sure you are not just buying some gold plated lead?

How can you make sure the scale at the gold shop is not rigged so you only get 9.8 baht of gold?

A few years from now when you decide to sell again, will any gold shop take your gold or do you have to go back to the shop where you bought it from?

Said you want Thai gold after you decide not to buy G.O.L.D on the stock market or any of the gold mines & no certificates or physical gold from perth mint …

Or you already have all this one and want to diversified !

All my purchase was made in china town (yaowarat as spell in thinknet mapmagic)

Gold have stamps, who are different from shop to shop.

one of this shop will give you a certificate (100 baht) and are reputable for resale value

It is not 24 carat you buying

Content on the gold bar is bit higher as necklace jewel

I did ask once to have something made, cost me more for it

You can ask to have it tested in the shop, the lingo will have the shop stamps on it, if it is gold / lead it will be know soon by the public

Rigged: the necklace will be sell by weight, 1-2-3 bahts = the scale will have to show the grams for 1-2-3 bahts

It is better to take it back to the same shop, but I had sold gold from one shop in yaowarat to a different one without problem.

  4. Katana,

Looking at an old post regarding DVD burner question, you did suggest Pioneer to me.

Few month ago, I bought a DVD machine of this brand and happy with it.

I contact Pioneer Thailand who told me they do not have / import the DVD burner but perhaps I will be able to get it from other source (pantip)

When I was in Australia, I find a external pioneer for under $100 Au and it is good.

  5. Not mixed, but I the best source for frozen berries I have found is at Makro. They almost always have strawberries, blackberries and often raspberries and blueberries as well. The price is right! I just wish I had a larger freezer for storage because sometimes there are only strawberries available.

I've also bought frozen apricot halves, peach halves, kiwi and pineapple there.

yes me too Macro, i went there 2 days ago, they have the 4 mentioned above, but be award it is china product, i find the blueberries very strong in test and stop buying them, not convince of the chemical use !

The one I am getting are the blackberries around 150 appro baht a kilo and the raspberry ( 250 baht kilo )

popshirt apricot halves / peach halve are they good ?

  7. 'simcity' - I have tried SUPER@ in the past but not being very techi found all those options too confusing - and you have to wait sometimes a long time till the conversion is finished before you know it's all wrong :o

Is there a default seting those I can work with? Might play with it again :D

    :D

Daffy if you read this message, post already few month old.

The last 2 days i have few files who show error with quick media converter

i went back to my old super@ and i was able to do the conversion.

i prefer to work with Quick media, but still holding with the Super

  8. I flew Bkk-Syd on Sunday on TG and the C cabin was 1/3 full. Economy looked fuller but I didn't walk through. The airport was completely normal except for a distinct lack of people.

I flew back to Bangkok from Melbourne on the 9 December, everyone have three seats for themself, and some row without people, bit less of 1/3

They change the plane; it was a 3*3*3 range without personal entertaining.

At Bangkok, 15 people were on the carrousels waiting for the luggage’s from this flight the rest have connections flight to Europe.

The restaurants and shop was looking ok busy outside the duty-free area

  9. I have 20 video files each abpout 5 minutes long. I need to merge them together and then edit them by cutting out unnecessary parts. I used a sony video camera and videod the footage in MPEG2 format. I used my friend's camera. Now I have the files on my laptop. When I dragged those files onto windows movie maker it would not accept them so i converted them to avi hoping that it would work but it didn't! So I tried converting to wmv. No luck either. Windows movie maker would not accept them. It says 'unspecified error'

What am I doing wrong? Ultimately I want to slice the video to make a 7 minute video so that I can upload it to youtube

    Any ideas?

    This two programs are great

    Quick Media Converter

    From:

    super@

    both programs are free

  10. Try Bang Saen. Not very far from Muang Chonburi. Lots to do and some of the beaches are quite nice.

i like bangsaen too, sometime it is bit over price for bunghalow & popular with thai holiday makers.

many open restaurants with nice seafood there.

POO MHA is one of the speciality ( kind of crab )

for the beaches it is soso to me.

if you decide somewhere else, have a look at Huahin / Chaham

  11. I am thinking buying a DVD writer ( no blueray ) for my computer, my questions are :

My computer is nearly 2 years old.

Buy in Thailand or Australia (travel in 2 weeks)

    Buy internal or external

    Brand recommended

Price range not to much a issue..

    Thank

if all the same will be in pantip a internal

  12. But dont you think 40 US cents is kind of inevitable

if they go ahead with more interest rate cuts as they

said they would? USA today talking about the

possibility of 0% interest rates and why shouldnt

Australia be any different before this crisis has finished ?

AU dollar at 0.40 to the USA It sounds me very low (article from Chris Zappone)

Commodities still on the ground, BHP / Billiton still mining them

Newspapers want bad news, people want bad news, as Ray said, it is print material, they love the emotions / the panic, sure they must be upset not to see so many jumping from building (finance district) not the usual Pattaya / Bangkok condos

If 0.40 cents to the dollar a Australian wage of 600 dollars that will be a mere US240

Who is going to buy anything from USA, your industry will suffer dearly.

To much negative / emotion on these markets at this time, I just refuse to panic.

My believe is peoples who done they home work before the big raise (approximate) 10 years ago, and who where not stupid to mortgage the house for a new line fees of credit (buying shares or margin ), they will be ok with off course some lost!

One to be angry is the Australian government who obliges 10% of gross wage into super, they should take a high blame on the situation with many new gimmicky positions feeling on by supposed expert fund specialist!

The government should change the rules and give access to funds member to be able to take the cash and paid for properties mortgage.

you own superfund can be made, but that is not for Mr. everyone. Off course part of the house then need to be regulated as a non cash possibility until retirement!

Diverse portfolio, low ration debts / equity, after the bad apple been put aside, better time will come back.

The day where you will see a really big disaster, it will be after a super volcano and that will be catastrophic with a melt down of the society.

I pass the 89–91 recessions they have a 19%+ interest rates at this time 'that was hard to service'

I believe too may people has been greedy with margin and line fees of credit, and bad advice from the experts.

So many experts so sure of themselves & arrogant, getting you unserviceable mortgage , but you care they got the commission & they are still there telling what to do! Perhaps you will meet them on cattle class ( presume they travel this way now )

Now he need people like me, getting back slowly on the stock wagon (perhaps with some lost at first)

Sorry if some of you have some hard time read me, live here / business in Australia but I am a frog & it is 1 am!

  13. Sorry to tell you this folks but I dont think there is much to look forward

to regarding a stronger Aussie in the short to medium term..................

    Sydney Morning Herald today

Dollar dive: 40 US cents warning

The Australian dollar may fall to a record low next year, possibly dipping below

40 US cents for the first time, as slowing growth in emerging markets cools

demand for the raw materials exported by the nation.

The currency has dropped 31% since reaching a 25-year high of 98.49 US cents

on July 16, sliding as prices of crude oil, gold and nickel declined. It

reached 47.75 cents in April 2001, the lowest since it started trading freely in 1983.

I do not listen to these experts

I have see so many contradiction with them..

  14. Can anyone enlighten me, please, on the legend of the ghost of Phra Khanong market?

My husband and I have just bought a turtle from there and I have heard that it is unlucky to do so because of a ghost. What's all that about then? :o

Any suggestions for names would also be appreciated. :D

    Be nice to your pet!

I have at home a antic operating table (well could be few ghosts attached to it)

The first few days I put flowers and respect it..

    Only luck follow

You pet is a lucky pet & it will rub it to you

my dog name is ' padthai '

  15. The rich elite want a strong baht, the ordinary Thais can get lost.
Are you sure of this ? The Thai elite owns the export factories , so I guess they are lobbying for a baht devaluation. Tarisa instead is concerned in keeping too much $ reserves (BoT had 40 $ billions in 2005 and has 100 $ billions now) and so sells back all these useless and low interest earning reserves , the result being a baht stronger than some other area currencies (but still declining against the $).

For me not so, who own factories: Chinese / Thai

    Who are the elite?

Is they not a friction between merchants and samurai in the pass

  16. I do not think anyone can say right or wrong.

It is up to the individual to decide what to do, some prefer to rent and invested.

Some will lose doing it, some will be better off.

You can not be sure about capital gain / lost on the property market before you have the sale cash on your hand.

I know some people trying to sell in Pattaya for ages, and look they need to take a big lost.

Some people do not want to think about body corporate problem and maintenance; they prefer to buy Grange Hermitage wine or antic toys.

Everything is up to the individual, like gold, you can afford it, you want a different class asset.. Do so, buy few kilo & stop looking at the ‘ I told you so “ messages

  17. 'simcity' - I have tried SUPER@ in the past but not being very techi found all those options too confusing - and you have to wait sometimes a long time till the conversion is finished before you know it's all wrong :o

Is there a default seting those I can work with? Might play with it again :D

    :D

I agree, but it use to be the only one in the market and done a good run for me.

stick with the Quick media, i just try it, it is really good

will be my choice from now on

  18. I will try the quick media converter

been using this one : they have something about Ipod
