  1. I apply for 1 year multi entry visa 2 weeks ago

I got my 1 year multi entry

when i went to the airport, the check-in staff was counting something regarding my passport, i ask what was the problem, she told me careful my passport nearly expire, I only have 8 month left on it !!!! but was ok, 6 months is the validity.

i did not check before, will be back to do a new one before the expire date

  2. Just be careful with what you read in Bangkokpost food review.

I use to like it, read it, but the last 3 month I try few places, the photo showing are not what you got.

Some photo has two dishes into one, like the one from Bravo with salad of lobster with a wild mushroom salad.

I went there and just got the salad of lobster.

My meals in the 3 places were around 3000 baht, more if wine.

I do not care about the price if it is good, but all three were not!

I decide from this experience, not renew my Bangkok post, I do not like the change they made, I am not interested with the car section / magazine / food review/ general news/ and they change the sodoku as well hahaha

Only the sad part is my dog will need to use the local newspaper for his toilet 

The only part I will miss is the data section on Wednesday….

    Bye bye Bangkok post !

  3. I think I got the flue last week, when I was in Australia, my house mate was getting sick as well, perhaps I caught it on the plane and pass it to him

Temperature went to 37.8, I drink a lot of fluid, cold and flu tablets, and 2 days later was back to normal.

If that is the flue it is contagious, but in my case was very mild symptoms.

  4. What I find with most small homemade machine made by commercial companies (rancilio / gaggia / faema) the group joint getting dry after few years and need replacement, plus I have problem with the boiler who leak, all that was due to low usage!

Brasilia is commercial too, and they are all good for businesses.

For home, I must have own about 6-8 units until now, I was in the coffee industry and was easy for me to buy from the coffee supplier, well free most of the time !

My last buy was a saeco and I find it very good, I have the small manual one.

I just ask it for espresso, no late or cappuccino, for the manual unit I like the way when you insert the group.

  5. Perhaps some of you remember Gor:

Panrit "Gor" Daoruang is Thailand's most famous teenager. He writes about his life growing up in Thailand. Gor became famous around the world when he started writing about his life on this website. He then later wrote a weekly column for the Bangkok Post at the tender age of only 16.

    From me:

Gor has a dark secret that cost him his freedom; he was a meth addict and got a 3 years sentence.

He is due to be release soon, I did help him few time (sending money) to his trusted mentor, friend & teacher Richard Barrow, who pass it to him or help with the tuition fees of Grace (Gor’s daughter).

I never meet them, but I am sure they have compassion, and charisma, perhaps few extra spare baht from us (Thaivisa) will be welcome for Gor to start his new life?

Anyway, thank for your time & they are some nice reading in some of the follow links

  6. I found this thread searching for VAT REFUND and just now noticed it's in the airport forum. Well, I'll ask anyway...

I bought a laptop in BKK in May and on June 13th I left via the Koh Samui airport to Singapore. I went to the VAT refund counter, all was OK only I didn't get cash, I had to give them a credit card account for them to send my refund to (roughly 1000 baht). They said it would take 30 days but of course, almost 2 months later I haven't seen it and that's why I'm writing. Is it safe to say I just got screwed over? Or is there some way to get it back? I'm in Thailand again but flying out via Suvarnabhumi on Wednesday. If I bring any paperwork I have to the VAT refund counter would they be able to help?

I feel silly asking these questions because TIT and all that - but what the heck.

I do not think you can do a lot for your claim, without getting more agro about loosing your time.

Perhaps if you want, you could but your own post, internet and its forums have done the most damage to the tourists industry:

Showing the real picture of many scams

But for sure, please put a reply if you do get your refund in the end, late or by your own resource !

  7. I bought my Mitsubishi Electric from Carrefour.

I've heard many times of differences, but I don't know why and / or which one is better. Any Ideas Simcity?

I am bit surprise I only saw Mitsubishi Electric from Mitsubishi Electric shops.

I saw many units selling with Mitsubishi compressor or Mitsubishi heavy duty brand.

One other aspect (who could be discussed) brandname has different quality standard, I have been inform from friend working in one of them, items selling at department are not the same as brand shop.

When you enter a shop, look the aircond ’s name they using, most of them will be Mitsubishi Electric, more expensive to buy, but for me better and cheaper to run.

  8. Thanks for you contribution Welo, I'm sure others will find it very useful.

You're welcome. Just want to contribute something back to the community since I received great help here in the past!

However, I wonder whether anybody will bother to read since it is 'slightly' longer than the average post on thaivisa LOL

    welo

I am like a honey bird on new posts !

I did not read all for the raison i do not need this info, but will for sure if one day i need to go there.

    Great post you made !

  9. Westerners don´t think the same way as regular people

    What was I thinking?

That's why all the prisons in Thailand are full of Westerners and no Asians - just the "irregular people" habitat the prison system. It also explains why the Western World really consist's of third world countries.

Appropriate to the above is the other similar case decided the same day as Mr. Hood....

Thai court jails Malaysian drug dealer for 30 years

BANGKOK, Aug 5 — A 40-year-old Malaysian has been sentenced to 30 years' jail and fined 500,000 baht for drug trafficking and overstaying in Thailand.

The Criminal Court, however, halved the sentence due to David Goh Chee Leong's confession.

The Bangkok Post reported that Goh was arrested on Jan 5 at a rented apartment in Bangkok's Laksi district with 2.58g of crystal meth (known as "ice"), 71.97g of ecstasy, 44.71g of ketamine, and 8.01g of nimetazepam, a party drug marketed under the name Erimin.

He also faces a related charge of possession with intent to supply.

The daily also said that another Malaysian, aged 31, was arrested on Monday with a Thai accomplice in the southern province of Satun for allegedly smuggling 2.88g of crystal meth.

A number of Malaysians had been arrested in Thailand over the past few months for smuggling in synthetic drugs, including a marketing manager with a foreign workers agency who was nabbed at a luxury condominium here and three others in Sungai Golok, Narathiwat.

    - Bernama News (Malaysia) / 2009-08-05

The newspapers must have made a typo, 2.58 g is worth few thousand baht, must be more like 258 g

Malaysia supply is wellknow for party drugs

  10. Execution is now by lethal injection. What was this silly fool thinking??? Australia's airports have some of the toughest security measures in the world. They've even made a TV series about it. He never saw the show??? I dont believe it. Every passenger coming off a flight from Asia or Sth America must walk past one of the little sniffer dogs in the baggage hall. Impossible to avoid them because officials are watching you. He was never ever going to get through. Zero chance particularly a flight from Bangkok which is probably the NO 1 watch flight for customs officials. Incredible.

Please tell us more. What TV series? What little sniffer dog?

Why did they slit open the Velcro fastenings inside my luggage (on a journey from Bangkok to Perth)?

I saw this little dog there, a beagle going like a honey bird from suitcases to suitcases, looking for fruits to my knowledge! No sure how he will react in front of a durian lots or few kilos of heroine

  11. So assume that the 50 Bt.Mafia Fee must have also been ABOLISHED...yea...... :)

Is not the 50 baht going to the driver?

After a long flight I do not worry about it, I just want a taxi home.

Give incentive to the driver to came and wait at the airport for passengers, and I make sure to tip them as well.

  12. Verasu website don't have many choices it seems. Boncafe only have one fully auto machine for home use (Saeco) but no price online. Anyone know how much they are?

They must have more models, give them a ring.

before on the non automatic model i have the choice with them on

    the via venezia

    grand grema

    via veneto

    magic expresso

i paid 9800 baht after 20% discount for mine

  13. melbat

i even refuse to pay the 150 baht fee imposed on banks' atm withdrawal. yesterday, i personally complained to the manager of the bank and came away with 30k without having to pay the 150 baht fee and i'll probably do it again.... when i feel indignant and irrational enough.... lol

are you sure you getting the same echange rates from a ATM withdraw and the counter withdraw ?

  14. Hi Carl

Do you want for professional use or home use ?

My experience with coffee machines are :

When I have my businesses I use the brands : Gaggia / Faema / Rancillio and all this brands are good, they were two / three groups machines

When I move here I took my home rancillio with me, after few little years of moderated use, I start to have leakage problem with joints getting dry.

I bought a home gaggia and got same problems after 3 years.

Really the best I think for home use are the Saeco machines, it is the one I have now, I did not go to the fully automatic with grinder as I have my gaggia grinder I took with me from my business.

If you take one with grinder, make sure it is ceramic grinder, I think all of them are now.

For the price, I think here it is a bit more, my friend told me in phillipine it is cheaper, I bought my saeco from Boncafe, sometime they have special price.

They use to have Gaggia as well when I went there last time.

Here is the link for them

    http://www.boncafe.co.th

  15. Something fishy here !

When I saw the figure I was thinking it do not match somewhere!

*Today in Bangkok post, police arrest someone with 2 kilo of ‘ice’ (meth) with a street value of 6 million baht.

That is the correct street price 3000 a gram

In the topic they mention the Samber bought it for Bt130,000 (about $US3,825) for a 500gm bag, and sell it for 3500 for nearly 3 grams !

I think it is not possible.

I think he paid much more for it, and sell it for much more, perhaps a low baht ammount figure will attract a lower sentence.

  16. Over the last few days i have had three or four strange TeXes from a friend in ko lak, near Phuket, she is married to a Danish man. Today i Finaly got to the bottom of them,The one i received today said i need to borrow 250 00baht, I do not know if it means 25,00baht or 250,000baht,I taxed back and asked whats the problem , have you talked to .... her husband, she said i cannot, She will not tell me why.I just said that she should talk to her husband , he is Danish and a good man, And thats how i have left it, The thing is, i feel for her because i have stayed at there place and there family's place, a few times over the years, I think that her business is in trouble due to the economic down turn , And to be honest i don't think it will pick up for a few years yet,I feel sorry for them but i cannot afford to risk lending them or her any money. I feel let down that she should ask me , and put me in a position a bit like emotional black mail, I know she has two small children and try to do the best for them which makes me feel bad, I have to say no ,for my own sake because i do not have a lot of money , i have just got married for the first time to my Thai partner ,In my mind i have done the right thing .How would you Handel this situation.

You done the right thing, only land what is not indispensable for your well being & your family!

perhaps send presents for the childrens sometime
