the 1918 Spanish flu killed millions, but in a world before vaccines had burnt itself out within two years. This damn thing seems determined to stick around!
World population was 1.7 billion and estimated deaths of between 17 to 50 million

Samui +69 new cases
Phangan +14 new cases
Koh Tao, no new casesSource: Kosamuilife.com and Kohmui.com
That is 230 cases in a week now for Samui. A fairly significant number given the size of the population. Where I live we only have 200 cases a day in a population of 8 million with 93% of adult population fully vaccinated only the unvaccinated are restricted in their activities.

Recent numbers on the islands along with the the recent weather may suggest that this is correct?
I believe it’s less to do with heat but more to do with humidity level. The virus suspends itself in the air by attaching to water vapor droplets. The higher the humidity the larger the water droplets and the wicker they fall. There has been a lot of research done in this area. I work in a private hospital and when we had Covid patients several months ago we put humidifiers in the rooms and common areas were the Covid patients were to reduce the chances of airborne transmission. The northern winters can produce very cold dry air in which the virus can remain suspended for up to I believe 20 times longer than a relatively humid environment. The tendency to congregate more indoors in confined environments in winter probably contributes to spread also.

Once again , the Left displaying Nazi ideology .
Sterilize those who don't conform to their ideals of what they consider to be satisfactory behavior
So i guess you mean the Right don't just display ideology they actually just slaughter people who don't conform. Do you consider slaughtering people satisfactory behavior ?

They have given up 80% of their slots. Not taken them.

Not sure how the group flew back home but it was reported they had done so. Not sure back then it was a requirement to test before flying to where they were going and if they were nationals of that country, like the Thai Nationals, at one time they did not need to test to fly back to Thailand. We whinged about it very much on-line at the time about the inequity of a foreigner being required to test 72 hours prior but not a Thai.
Still to many unknowns and hoops to jump for most at the moment. I'm sitting on the fence watching. Yesterday work announced if we go overseas we can not return to work until day 8 of return. Must test day 1 and day 7 if negative can return to work.

That was done during the first week of the Phuket Sandbox. A group arrived 1 of them positive the others put into quarantine, but then were allowed to fly back home. A wasted vacation for all.
Probably a group coming in on a private charter. I doubt a commercial airline will carry you if you are positive ?

Considering the cost of freight worldwide has exploded up to ten fold in the past 12 months you might be looking at a pretty penny to ship now.

Here's an example for easy math: Assume you want to spend $50k/yr. You have a pension that pays $25k per year, so you need to fund the remaining $25k with your savings. You wanna retire at 50 so you need savings that will last you another 50 years in this case (to be safe)
In Australia if you have enough savings to give you an income of 25k a year its unlikely you would receive the full pension. Once your income exceeds about $150 a week you pension starts getting reduced at 25k per annum income you would likely receive less than 50% of the pension

Can someone please explain to me how saving $1000 a month for 35 years gets you $2million ? By my maths that’s $420k are you saying the 8% interest would make up over $1.5 million ? And where is paying 8% interest ?
My super fund averages 9.8% over a ten year period. Last year saw return of 18.3%.

L&M Blue - my local mom and pop put it up 10 baht to 70 baht at the beginning of lsat month. Haven't purchase packets individually at 7-Eleven but a carton of 10 is still being charged 600 baht.
Still cheaper for a whole carton then Australia were it’s 750B for a single pack of 20

I use a 4.4kw portable air conditioner in my unit in Sydney. It easily keeps the 50sqm living area cool on the hottest of days and has no problem getting down to 20degC. Obviously is ducted outside through a window kit.

With their insistence on maintaining a zero Covid policy and a 21 day quarantine for return travelers. It will be well after 2022 before there is any significant Chinese tourism inbound or outbound. My bet is on 2025 before they relax any restrictions. They are well aware that their vaccines are not on par with what is available in the west, leaving them in a vulnerable position if they open their borders.

I doubt there are many regulations and if there is, likely little enforcement. I have seen enough food handling and storage practices in Thailand that would probably give a western food safety inspector a heart attack. Have personally had several bouts of food poisoning in Thailand.

And all the lovely electrical distribution boxes blocking the footpaths. I never used to mind the overhead wires. Still sadly looks like a ghost town albeit a slightly cleaner one. I hope they don’t get their hopes too high that masses are just going to return overnight. I would not be surprised if 70% of the businesses are closed permanently due to no capital left to resume operations.
it’s likely to be a long road to full recovery.
Hoping I can return in March.- 3
