No herd immunity. Israel, UK have 80% vaccination rates but still lots of cases. Vaccination helps stop death and hospitalisation, but doesn't help a lot in stopping infection. Being infected doesn't help stop being re-infected either - friend of son in UK has notched up 3 infections and 2 vaccinations - 2 infections in last 3 months alone. Welcome to the new common cold strain (but nastier).
Uk vaccination rates are at 67% still really an inadequate level it’s surprising given their early start.

I may be wrong but the OZy pension includes some rent, in the UK that is claimed separately from the local council.
You can claim rental assistance on top of the pension as a separate supplement. I believe it’s about an additional $65 a week

And I have a question? Basic pension in Australia is 50k baht a month? That's 2000 aus dollars. The government really gives that much to old people? This is much better than Canada where you only get 600-700 a month....the rest is income supplement for old people, but to qualify you have to actually live in the country.
Is this the same in aus? How do pensions work there?
It’s about 45k Baht a month for full singles pension you get some additional supplements if living in the country. You have to remain in the country for the first 2 years of the pension after that it is full portable depending on how many years you worked for. 37 years gives you the full amount out of country. Anything less is paid prorata if you only worked for 25 years then you would only get 25/37 out of country.

The vaccine DOES NOT prevent Covid in 100% of people who are jabbed. What it does is greatly reduce the likelihood you will get deathly ill. People freaking out when vaccinated people catch mild Covid and locking down again and again negates the whole point of getting the vaccine. They will never open again if they want Zero. Covid.
Well Duh. But while they still have 80% of the country not fully vaccinated and still vulnerable to serious illness that is what will keep on happening. No one is talking about zero covid

Going by Surat Thani is great. Nothing better to start a visit than with a trip across the Gulf of Thailand.

Yeah like about 7 times now. Why do so many people think Chewang represents all of Samui. It such a small part of the whole parcel of what the island has to offer

Just keep vaccinating.
At the current rate of 667k jabs per day, Thailand will hit 70% fully vaccinated on December the 8th of this year.
Keeping in mind that Israel is a little above 60% and the states a little above 50%, this seems promising.
Although infections may keep rising, deaths should stagnate and go down soon.
But the question is where o where are they getting 20 million doses a month from ????

Just need to look at Phuket. Almost exclusively vaccinated with Sinovac and hospitals almost at capacity.

I think the best indicator that something is amiss is that the deaths started falling around the same time that the infection rate started to recede. The general consensus is that deaths lag infection by approximately 21 days so in theory the death rate should still be rising slightly rather than having made a significant drop.

New South Wales now up to 200k tests a day...1 state in 1 day. How many Thailand doing again?
Not really accurate 200k results came through. They explicitly stated that 60k were overdue negative result notifications. They have now removed some testing criteria for essential workers to reduce the pressure and turn around time for results. I would say the max they can do effectively is about 120k still good as mostly for the metro population of 5 million

If you apply the same logic that many of us did to foresee the current situation then you arrive at only one conclusion….they are exaggerating the vaccination numbers as the one and only thing left to them to try and retain any credibility.
Well they certainly seam to be giving out more doses than they claim they can purchase. Hmm

Can it be done with a lack of vaccines? How many vaccines are on hand right now?
They would need approximately 17 million doses a month. At best they are getting 5 million AZ a month if they are lucky. Where are the other 12 million going to come from. They won’t be getting any significant amounts of Pfizer this year. So 12m dose of Sinovac?
Im not saying the vaccination numbers are overstated.
But I have my doubts they have the resources to and products to do some of the daily number of jabs we are seeing. No evidence just my gut talking.

Infections aren't the most important thing here - of much more concern are hospitalisations and deaths. That said, I'm thinking 25,000 infections per day tops:
On the negative side:
1) Thais often live in large families and/or in close proximity to others, and
2) The Delta strain seems to spread more quickly that others
On the positive side:
1) Thais don't shake hands or hug like we do in the west, and
2) Thailand's population is not as large as countries with lots more infections, like the US, India, etc, and
3) Vaccination, while off to a slow start, will pick up before too long, with most vulnerable people having received at least one dose now, unlike countries where the virus was being transmitted before the vaccine was available
I'm optimitstic that things will soon improve.
Most of your positive sides are really moot with delta.
we all know now that you can catch it just walking past an infected person. Nobody is talking about touch and surface transmission anymore that is last year’s issues.
Maybe not as large a population but density is a bigger factor and Thailand has a far greater density than the USA and many other countries with significant outbreaks and death tolls.
The majority of people vaccinated have been given vaccines that are significantly less effective as the majority of vaccines used by other nations.- 1

Australia with 13.5% double jabbed is looking at April I think it is to have 70% fully jabbed. Australia is also getting in 10's of millions of jabs including enough for boosters. Thailand is still < 6% fully vacced.
Expectations are 70% by end of year. Current outbreak is causing a surge in the previously hesitant or no rush crowd to go and get vaccinated but still a lot of hesitancy over AZ.
case numbers still rising despite hard lockdown.
1000 police manning ring of steel around the city to prevent repeat of last week’s protests Have 10 BMW highway patrol cars around the corner stopping all city bound vehicles.
Army is now door knocking all positive cases daily to make sure they are home after several caught going to work etc knowing they were positive.
They are throwing every available resource at it. But I’m not confident you can fully conquer delta once it’s out.- 1

Yes, and what happens if tested asymptomatic positive, expensive hospital costs for two weeks..?
That is the problem likely stopping people with relatively mild symptoms coming forward. It is possible for them to isolate at home.
