Bring someone who speaks Thai.  It helped me when I messed up on some tests with the rope.

They just laughed and passed me.

Why bring someone who speaks Th?? In the eventuality of a theoretical test it is in English. They probably laughed because they imagined you would hang yourself with the rope. 5555????????

Pretty easy to get a Thai licence. Your UK one means you don't have to pass the on line test as long as they don't close for Wuflu. Beware riding a scooter in Thailand. Very few riders have bothered with licences or Insurance and the standard of driving is abysmal. You will regularly see 4 underage kids without helmets on one bike and the death rate is astronomical. Stick to cars if you can

    What do you consider underaged??

if they wanted to buy then they could go to any warehouse, selling booze and buy   out side the hours..

I always buy from warehouse anytime during the day....like i bought some leo yesterday at 3.10 pm

What do you call a warehouse?? Any shop with a clocked cash register ( 7/11 , Makro , Tesco, etc ) applies this law, with some exceptions where they know you since a long time...

The driving school will let you practise on their computer until you consistently score high enough (95/100 I think). The difficulty lies in the questions where the translation is misleading. A few question have twisted logic too.

Next to the twisted question / multiple choice there are 50 questions? maximum errors allowed = 4.

It makes sense for some to enroll locally and get the licence on the strength of having completed a local driving course. In Cambodia, converting a foreign licence entitles you to a 1 year local licence, whereas completing a local course gets you (like Cambodians) a full 10 year licence.

BUT, we are not in Cambodia....So completely different..

Theory test is a multiple choice computer test you have to get a  certain percentage of the answer "correct"  to pass but  some of the answers do not make sense or are just plain wrongly coded into the computer programYour driving school most likely can point you towards the online  practicetest  which I'd advise you to try before actually doing the test for real.

Absolutely agree with some ' nonsense' answers.

I can only comment on massage prices here in Pattaya...firstly we are overrun with massage places (as with bars/opticians/rooms/dentists etc etc etc)and a relatively expensive Thai massage will set you back 300 baht/hour and at the other end as little as 80 baht/hour.....all prices are market driven not by folk living/visiting but by the owners themselves...as earlier mentioned the area at the Pattaya klang/soi Bukhaow intersection must have 20/30 shops vying for business at prices from 80 up to 150....there is no difference in the service provided,I myself have tried maybe half a dozen places in my 7 years of living and now use just a couple as the massage these two ladies suits me best, all Thai massages vary from one person to the next it`s what suits the individual that counts.

About this time last year one of my massage places reduced it`s price to attract more trade...market forces...I paid for my massage+tip and the girl wanted to hand me back 20 baht which obviously I declined....I have a property down south near Krabi and visit Ao Nang often, you will pay 250+ baht there for a Thai massage as it seems they run a fixed price scheme...it`s absolutely dead at the moment with hardly any shops open....at least here in Pattaya there are some customers.

Same price range in all the Sois adjacent to Jomtien Beachroad.

Just to give some perspective to this thread, the minimum daily salary here is 300 baht a day.  An example of this would be 7/11 staff.

    Say a shift is 8 hours.  That's 300 baht / 8 hours = 37.5 baht an hour.

The Burmese construction laborers, working there backside's off in the hot sun all day, do not even get paid the Thailand minimum daily salary.

The minimum wage you mention is for unschooled labor and depends on the Province. See MOL...

Nice place in Jomtien has reduced their price for Thai Massage (not oil) from B200/hr to B150. Had an excellent 2 hour massage recently for B300 and a nice cup of tea after. Of course a nice tip was also provided.

    Who tipped who??? ????

but they refused the second time when I went there, just  before the 3rd wave.

Others refused any discounts for bulk order, minimum 200/h

Did you get a little stamp on your Customer Card each time you went? 5555

I thought I'd have a look at the ThailandIntervac/expatriate website again, but it's vanished and you just get redirected to the old version. Is this good news, that they're working like beavers to fix things so have taken the expatriate version completely offline? Or is it just that they don't give a rat's ass?

    Same here..
