  1. Please be aware that none of the PCR tests is 100%. As far as I know, none of them is validated and there is no Gold standard.

There are false positives and false negatives.

Thus, the higher the number of tests, the more it can happen that someone was tested first negative and then positive, or vice versa, even more so if not the same test was used.

The person's cells are not "genetically modified". They cell is provided with messenger RNA that causes the cell's mechanics to produce antigen proteins that then present on the cell's wall, which in turn creates an immune response. mRNA vaccines are generally considered safer than traditional vaccines, since they do not involve the actual virus.

    https://www.phgfoundation.org/briefing/rna-vaccines

As the article states, there are challenges, which includes unintended immune reactions. This appears to be the biggest risk for the person receiving the vaccine.

From the article you link to:

    Quote

Once the mRNA strand in the vaccine is inside the body’s cells, the cells use the genetic information to produce the antigen. This antigen is then displayed on the cell surface, where it is recognised by the immune system.

So if I get that vaccine, my cells are modified using this injected genetic information to produce „antigen“, which is a kind of marker, right?

And this marker is the displayed on the cell surface, marking them, so that my immune system thinks they are foreign, a virus, with the consequence that it attacks them, destroys them, right?

That sounds to me like an artificial auto immune disease, getting my own immune system to attack my own cells, right?

And this could be any cells of my body, the vaccine just injects the genetic code, but it can do that to any cell reached by the blood stream containing the vaccine?

And then, as you know, cells need to divide for growth, repair, or reproduction. That involves duplicating the cell‘s DNA, which is a complex process, including DNA unwinding and unzipping, its two strands coming apart. What is the effect of the genetic code injected into the cell by the vaccine? Any side effects on this DNA duplication? Unknown?

And that mechanism is new, untested, never used before in vaccines for humans?

I have absolutely no problem in general with vaccinations, i fully understand the concept of getting a weakened  virus and have my immune system train with it. So far I have received lots of such vaccines - but please understand that I do not feel comfortable with this new experimental concept, as it is presented so far.

how do you know you are not infected? Kids rarely show symptoms, adults don't always show symptoms but spread far & wide. Just had such a cluster in our local Rotarians. 23 out of 26 meeting participants infected by one person on one evening. Was not in Thailand. 2 doctors amongst them.

Your reply has nothing to do with my post.

My post was a reply to a comment about Thailand‘s borders, and I said that there are no new infections in the neighboring countries, Laos, Cambodia, even Vietnam. If you disagree, please bring that up with the governments of these countries, which report zero new (not imported) infections for weeks and months by now. Your rotarians have nothing to do with that.

Therefore there is no need to keep the land borders between Thailand and these infection free countries closed. The situation in these neighboring countries is as good or better than in Thailand.

The Chula team is developing an mRNA vaccine

So this is not the usual vaccine, where a weakened form of the virus is injected, but the new and untested experimental approach where RNA is injected and our cells get genetically modified to produce parts of the Virus, which then are hoped to trigger a reaction of our immune system, training it for the real virus?

Are you saying the whole newspaper article is wrong?

I reread it twice and they write the egyptian soldier and

the diplomat's child were tested positive to the covid 19

''He (The egyptian soldier) and the crew reportedly visited a Rayong shopping and community area. They left their hotel on July 9 and travelled to China on an unspecified military mission via U-Tapao Airport. They returned to Thailand the same day. On July 10, the crew of 31 got tested. However, they were allowed to go home on July 11 though their Covid-19 test results weren’t confirmed. The soldier was found to test positive on July 12. Health authorities were questioning the staff of the unnamed hotel in which the group stayed.''

''On July 10, the family (Of The african diplomat) were screened for infection as they arrived in Thailand, and the girl was found to have contracted Covid-19. Her father then took her to a private hospital in Bangkok while the rest of the family remained in quarantine at a condominium in Bangkok.

On July 11 a second test confirmed the girl was infected with Covid-19, after which she was sent for treatment at a state hospital in Bangkok.''

The PCR tests are testing for presence of fragments of the SARS-CoV-2 Virus.

Covid-19 is the name of the sickness alleged to be caused by SARS-CoV-2.

Almost all of the infected (the ones with a positive PCR test) are not sick, asymptotic, show no symptoms.

The article claims they have Covid-19. Sloppy journalism, confusing the name of the virus with the name of the sickness.

Most, if not all the posts above assume that if Thailand opened its borders, tourists would rush in.

    This is far from certain.

The fear, and the financial difficulties, exist on both sides of all the borders, not to mention the governments' restrictions.

There would be some tourists, most probably not the high rollers that Thailand is seeking, but the numbers would be very low, certainly not in the millions as some are expecting...

Especially with the risk of a new panic and a new lockdown anytime, I would choose a country which showed that they do not react guided by panic and overreact with lockdowns, beach bans, curfews, pulling people out of their beds for having had friends visiting them and had a drink together, pulling swimmers out of the ocean, and so on.

Independence can only be decided by the Taiwanese people themselves. The island is torn between 2 sides of pro independence and “one-China“ principle factions. It has to be done through referendum. You don’t have a vote.

You worded that incorrectly. Taiwan is already an independent country, they do not need to decide for independence. They could of course decide to join CCP China, that is up to them. Quite unlikely though.

Now let‘s apply your proposal also to Hong Kong, and let the people of Hong Kong decide about their independence!

Of the respondents, 44.5% supported the arrivals of Thai returnees, 45.2% disagreed with ‘travel bubble’ tourism and 69.2% opposed international tourism.

If anything, this shows the success rate of constant scaremongering.

So why don't you do it in order to support your claim?

    That‘s a good idea!

However the real question is why the ones making such graphs don‘t do it correctly in the first place.

This has nothing to do with what candidate you support, just don‘t be so obviously misleading. Otherwise you remind me of Churchill: “I only believe in statistics that I doctored myself”!

(You heard of Winston Churchill, I hope!)

This is not showing the number of infected persons, which is most probably magnitudes higher.

Calling it cases is also misleading, as the very big majority is asymptotic.

Better call that graph the positive PCR tests (and hope it was using the more specific tests, to avoid too many false positives or negatives.

As the target of this graph is political, I understand that a bigger growth of the curve is desired. Tip: that easy to achieve, just triple the testing, you will get more positive tests, the curve will look more dramatic, and the guy it tries to blame will look even more negative.

Just don’t claim it shows the real development of infections. It could give a hint if you overlay the graph with the number of tests. But better don‘t try, the resulting curve might look less dramatic.

We have VPNs same as Thailand does. Clearly you have never been near China so don't tell me how it is.

Sorry to disappoint you once again, but I have been not only very near, but even „in“ China. And I don‘t mean Taiwan, the other, independent, Chinese country, but my feet touched CCP controlled soil.

If you use a VPN in China, please be careful. Some tips:

    Quote

So, here are the essential points of using a VPN in China without breaking the law:

    • Use a VPN with explicit authorization from the Chinese government. Once you shortlist the VPNs you’re interested in, make sure to contact them and ask about their relationship with Chinese authorities (whether they’re approved or not).
    • Use VPNs only for sanctioned purposes, such as data security or letting your field workers access Intranet features. Once again, keep in mind that you must stay away from any online criminal activities. Using a VPN won’t protect you if you break any laws, in China or elsewhere in the world.
