Good question. When you build a big house in your wife’s village, you come to regard it as your retirement home. Very comfortable in this house and the neighbors (mostly family) are quite friendly and accepting. If I lost my wife—I would stay. Plenty of stunners around, although would probably spend more time at our small rented beach house.

Strange how they tamp down the USD when it rises, but do nothing to prop it up when it falls precipitously. -
Baht Depreciation Could Have Widespread Implications

I will add that the USD just hit a 20-year high on the basket of currencies used for comparison. Unfortunately, that’s nowhere near what we see here in Thailand. Someone’s keeping a lid on the USD in Thailand. -

US Fed just hiked interest rated 50 basis points—and the Baht rises dramatically. World upside down here. Fed promised more hiking throughout the year—so will the Baht keep rising with each hike? Amazing Thailand. -

Can see some possible BoT intervention to save the Mighty Baht. The Fed increased interest rates 50 basis points yesterday, with promises to continue hiking. But in Thailand, the USD tanks, more so than anywhere else. Go figure -

Last stop Thailand for Prime Minister Kishida. Japan has big investments in Vietnam, and other SEA Countries. You’re not the only one, Thailand—better behave and play it straight. -

Thailand exports far more to the USA than it imports. So why would BoT intervene to save the Baht? Especially now when other western currencies haven’t fared as well as the USD… -

Beware of Friday afternoons. BoT likes to intervene at that time. Kinda ruins your weekend—although when your retired—everyday seems like weekend. -

True enough, although your statement assumes all Isaan women are prostitutes. Not so, by a long shot. -

Go to any mall in Isaan—any day of the week. You will see late model cars jammed into the shaded parking areas. Wife says they’re on credit—both the cars and their mall purchases. -
Baht drops against dollar to 5-year low, poised to drop further
Isaan sailor replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
Pretty good guess. Look at USD to Vietnam Dong today—Dollar rose up. USD to Philippians Peso today—flat, or a slight rise. In Southeast Asia, only Thailand’s currency rose dramatically today—very suspicious.
