If you look at percentage of tourists compared to home country population—Americans are very much underrepresented in Thailand to begin with. And not all that many American expats either, using the same standard. CDC recommendations won’t affect us expats—but could damage Yankee tourism.

Sure, there’s a crisis with Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. But it’s 100% on Russia as the aggressor. At least western currencies have inched up. We’ll see how long that lasts….

Russia’s banks now paying up to 20% on deposits. My Thai bank offers less than 1%. Hmmm. I think I’ll pass on that one. Let the George Soros types take advantage…

I hope Thailand remembers this stance toward aggressive invaders. Because another very large country in this neighborhood is eying a small country close by for invasion.

Sanctions hurt Russian people of course. If they work, though—they can bring an end to the Russian invasion. And give CCP pause on their invasion plans as well.

Any country that invades another country—for whatever reason—deserves the worldwide disdain and sanctions that come with it.

If TAT really wants to bolster Russian, Ukrainian and all other nations tourist numbers—I have a novel idea: devalue the Baht 50% or more. Have a long talk with Bank of Thailand about their bulging reserves.

Too bad we can do the same to Chinese Yuan—it’s based on a basket of major currencies.

This debacle and Thailand’s response will go along way in projecting their response if and when China tries to annex Taiwan. The world does not care for land grabbers.

At least we’re good at something. We haven’t done well at electing good leaders lately.

We considered the Rayong beach areas several years ago. Stories about the terminal and subsequent spills scared us from investing.

Not just for tourists. So many expats here want to go back to see family and friends—but don’t want problems upon return.
