  1. HINT TO STAY ALIVE:

Do not ever drive onto a divided road in Thailand without looking both ways, as there could be a motorcycle barrelling down the wrong side in the Bike Lane with the rider half tanked on Thai Whiskey or just simply ignorant

I came within half a second of killing my passenger and the rider in such a situation recently and I've seen few very nasty crash sites where that was obviously the circumstance

Won't do anything to avoid road accidents. The system is far too lax with almost nothing getting enforced except your occasional roadside bribe. What would really help are proper driving schools like they have in most parts of Europe. A 5000 Baht fine and/or compounding vehicles every time for excessive speeding would also teach them if enforced.

None of the above will ever happen whilst the current system of Policing exists.

They need an independent body to weed out the rubbish cops (start at the top), upgrade the law book and then increase the pay sufficiently to attract replacement diligent workers who will follow the rules willingly or be sacked.

The taxes they'll earn from the lives saved will more than pay for this

    Don't hold your breath but.

Not a typo. What I can gather online is that she is from a Latino family or maybe Filipino as they often have Latin names. The accused male has a common black name. The San Francisco neighborhood was in the Western addition historically a black neighborhood. Both accused are from Daly City a nearby heavily Filipino city.

Just cracking a guess, but if the attacker was Filipino and believed the victim to be Chinese, that would be his twisted motivation, as The Philippines are in hate mode on the Chinese re them stealing their islands in the South China Sea

Don't post misinformation.  They are actively looking for cases, just not doing mass testing.

One thing they are doing is testing sewage water, just like many other countries.  If the virus is discovered, they go into that area and test.

Sadly, they aren't doing mass testing.  But so far, have done a great job with regards to the virus.  Especially considering how the virus is out of control in many other countries.  Especially in the West.

Hopefully, Chonburi will be moved to yellow this weekend.

Australia and NZ are part of the West, so dont post your own misinformation.

No test no numbers, it's a simple methodology and very common in all S E Asian countries

Don't people get it?  The rise in cases is solely due to the rise in testing.  Most if not all of these people are not ill - in any sense of the word prior to about March last year.   Covid isn't going away.  it's just a question of how long it takes people to realise that it is just one of thousands of viruses we learn to live with.    Or would you all rather live like prisoners for the rest of your life while the global economy crashes deeper and deeper until it affects you and then you finally realise that the global lockdown policy was all a huge error?

Yeah, they're not actively looking for cases unless there's a report from a hospital.  Then they do a pretty good job of contact tracing, testing these people, and trying to stop the spread.

If no new cases at the hospital, then things are looking good.  Perhaps not the best way to do things, but so far, they've done a great job with the virus.  Sure would hate to be in the West right now.

    Not all of The West

Looking good here in Australia now, strict lock downs and MEGA testing did the job.

WHY??? .... a Government that cares and a mostly compliant population, unlike UK and USA and most of Europe

So, to what do we attribute these welcome results to? Have they stopped doing surveys and couch counting? A magic wand swept over the Kingdom and Coroni went away? Will we ever know? Will we ever care?

The magic wand you speak of is called NO TESTING, thus it did not go away so maybe we will never know, not even the families and friends of the dead casualties.

Those of us possessed with empathy and intelligence will definitely care

Yes, but it should also be noted that Australia and New Zealand have a great advantage over the Thais due to their geographical locations. Hence, both are surrounded by water and thus neither had to deal with infected Burmese sneaking across their borders.

Slightly correct but the really important bit you missed.

Australia and NZ did huge amounts of testing and still do.

Thailand does little to no testing except when there's a huge flare up like in Samut Sakkon and then only in that area, so who knows how much is really out there?

Exactly. I think this thread is just stirring up worry for no reason.

If an expat can’t afford a covid shot, they shouldn’t be in Thailand. I am sure the 800,000 for retirement visa or 400,000 for marriage visa money will more than cover it.
if they are on a working visa that will also cover it.
Some will expect it for free I am sure.

I am happy to wait my turn and do whatever the thai authorities ask us to do. Give it to the frontline health workers first, then all the oldies and fat people.

If they require us all to eventually vaccinated then we will, it is their country, their rules.

And they have been very successful handling it, much better than western countries, so we are not really in the position to start complaining and telling them how to handle it.

I am sure some will. They then have to make a choice. Do what Anutin tells us to do or find some other country to live in.

When you say " they have been very successful handling it"  I presume you mean their ability to hide the real figures, due to almost no testing and a vast increase in deaths caused by Influenza ;)

Are you just having a tickle to see how many here react? I mean "Do what Anutin tells us to do" that's seriously funny  555

I am not American, I believe in democracy, so if they want to vote for the bloke, that is up to the American people to decide.

I was asking about why he is so popular, obviously you are not a fan, but 70 million are, many quite fanatically.

Why do you believe that to be the case sir? Why is Trump so loved by so many Americans?

Sadly it has lowered my opinion of Americans.

    My guess is that

    A. they are utterly bombastic about their freedoms

    B. as with most Right Wing voters they consider that Wealth is far more important than Health. This also explains why Covid has ravaged the US
