But it doesnt.. Mine didnt.. you only have the posters word on that was why it was rejected and I am seeing a huge amount of barely functional retirees who dont know what they are being asked for, dont upload what they are asked for, upload docs that are illegible or low resolution, and then howl that theres something wrong with Thais when the obviously useless document is rejected as not being readable or right.
My policy just says "Overseas emergency medical insurance limit: £10,000,000" and was accepted first time.
You only know the document they tried was rejected, not really why it was rejected, you only have thier assumption or word on that.
One of the rejections is a standard format error saying 'please upload an insurance document showing a minimum of 100k cover' that error is sent to everyone who doesnt upload the right doc, in the right place, or its not readable, or its any one of many reasons of not being passed. when someones too technically dumb to get that upload right, thats the error they get, then they read the error and say 'hey its missing the word minimum' when he may have uploaded his shopping list for all we know. When this happens its always the 'stupid Thais' fault !!
Like I said I have been helping people reformat docs, and they are clueless.. I am on a marriage visa.. ok send it to me... gets a re-entry permit.. no please the visa.. gets a retirement extension of stay.. Thats not a marriage visa.. yes it is I am married.. etc etc etc..People don't need to have an extension based on marriage to get a CoE. If on a Non-immigrant O extension based on retirement, they need to show the marriage certificate. That's what counts. Maybe you should be more precise when you ask people to give you the correct documents.

They only have a heart when they are paid
Please tell me why they need to have a heart when you don't meet the requirement of being married anymore (if your wife died)? Your extension won't be cancelled as far as I know and next time you apply for a 1 year extension you have to change the reason. If your wife died 1 month prior to the 1 year extension, that would be another story, and in those cases the immigration office might show some leniency.

Not always, see my post #13
Your example "might" work for the first extension after a wife's death, but no way you will get another 1 year extension based on marriage when your wife died a year or longer ago. Then you have to change the reason for the extension. That's imo reasonable.

Good. Does it also work in reverse this way? From teaching extension to marriage extension?
You mean from a Non-B to a Non-O based on marriage and still be working? Yes, you can change the reason for the extension. You're allowed to work if having an extension based on marriage. But, what would be the difference if Non-B extensions are working?

What it is you're complaining about? The need to take a trip to immigration after 30 days is to much work for you?

I think I read here Cambodia is open, if you pay a Covid deposit. Maybe also Laos/Vietnam/Malaysia/Indonesia/Philippines. All those places must be much cheaper than Dubai, & cheap to travel to Th from when it finally opens up on reasonable terms, so it might be worth checking which are possible &/ starting a thread if you don't get an answer/find out anything interesting.
There are no neighbouring countries borders open for foreigners, except maybe Cambodia if the deposit scheme still is on the table. I am not sure about Laos, but then we're talking quarantine for sure.

I'm not a US citizen nor a US resident. I just work for a US company and receive my pay from them.
There's no country called EU, and you're not a Permanent Resident and probably never will be. It doesn't mean what you think. But maybe you could start with getting a Tax Identification Number (TIN) at the Revenue Department Office in your sub-district. It's free and quite easy to apply for.

Hi. I am not disagreeing with your advice "...you should never start working without a work permit...", (you know a lot more than I do about visas and work permits), but in practice, almost all teachers begin their career without the correct visa and work permit until their employers have time to process all the paperwork. I believe that it is tacitly accepted by the authorities, but of course, strictly speaking, it is against the law.
Didn't you read yesterday or was it 2 days ago about the upcoming crack down at every school in Thailand + agencies because of teachers without proper wp's. Heavy fines or/and deportation if you don't have a correct visa/extension and a genuine wp.

To get this stupid medical certificate is the most difficult of all other requirements. In Thailand 50 Baht in The Netherlands have to pay all tests like olifantitis, sifilis, TBC. A genuine doctor does not sign it without these tests
A "genuine" doctor doesn't test for syphilis stage 3, elephantiasis or leprosy. Those are visual examinations only. Those diseases don't exist in the western world anymore. A urine sample to show you're not a drug addict and the TB-test is enough and is very cheap.

THANKS for the info.
The list of semi commercial flights show many airlines that will start
operating flights to thailand, 3 times a week, starting around 18 october.
so just need to wait another 2-3 months. and things will be more relaxed.
There are at the moment 12 foreign airlines allowed to fly to Thailand. Most likely the thai government will use Thai Airways for repatriation flights for thai nationals only, and foreigners who are allowed to apply for a CoE can book a flight with the other airlines. These airlines are also flying out of Thailand every week. No one has mentioned commercial flights. Yet.

I wonder what happens when the bank deposit protection drops from ฿5,000,000 to ฿1,000,000 next August? I’m not sure I would feel comfortable with a ฿2,000,000 risk exposure.
When was the last time you read about a bank go bankrupt in Thailand? Do you really think it will happen to let's say Bangkok Bank, K-Bank or SCB?

Yeah, stupid regulation. Property is also money that the owner has invested Now they want to see money. And maybe next time they want to see diamond in safetybox... so craizy !!
When they are talking about a property owner, they don't mean a foreigner with a 36sqm shoebox. They are talking about investers.

Thanks for the info. But i have already insurance better than the thai company offers. The problem is just that no insuranve company will write "coverage minimum $100000".
The logic is just wrong. It can be missunderstood as i wrote above that insurance company would not cover your bill if it is lower than $100000
I hope you understand what i mean.
Your thread started with complaints about the $100,000 minimum coverage based on what they said in a Thai consulate in München, Germany. That's just one consulate.

Let's say you have a travel insurance covering covid-19 from your home country with a maximum limit that exceeds $100,000, you won't have a problem. Period.

Are you stranded here or on a annual extension? If on an annual extension you should have done a TM30 when you changed your address. The 90 days report is a verification of you staying at the last reported address. So in a way I understand the immigration officer.

He was using 400,000 but that, I believe, has depleted since his wife's passing.
Where is he staying? The price for an agent differs a lot. I know people using agents every year for a retirement extension when they don't meet the financial requirement but all the rest. They pay 12,5k which is imo a very good price. Then I know people paying 20k and even more at other agencies.

That's simply not true. Indonesians are some of the friendliest and welcoming people in SE Asia.
Use google search and type "how to retire on bali" or similar. You retire in Thailand starting on a 90 days Non-immigrant O Visa which you then extend 1 year, or you start with a 30 days or 60 days tourist and then change it to a 90 days Non-immigrant O. This is so easy if you have half a brain and it's fast.
You will never complain about that procedure if you read how to apply for a retirement visa on Bali. OP mentions the cost, but has his friend really gone through the procedure, or even know about it? I doubt it. I went through it online and it's tedious and it always involves an agent, because it's totally impossible to do it yourself. Check it out if you know how to use google. I think many foreigners have changed their mind about retirement on Bali when they realized how much work it is. I did.

No. You need a truck license for that. Many Thai's truck drivers do not have licenses anyway, money talks.
I asked if I could get a truck license as I have a heavy duty code international license, but the traffic dept denied it. Seems they are scared that I might work here.
I guess the reasoning they denied it is, if you were going to move something on that truck from A to B, you are actually working, and that task should be done by a Thai. Just my theory.

What can expats expect as far as getting the vaccine apart from very expensive and have to wait unless Embassies can step in and help .
You can get flu vaccinations now in Thailand, and they cost about ฿700. What you obviously don't know is that there are vaccines for other types of Coronavirus, the one we have now is just the latest strain, that's why it's called the new coronavirus. Not one of those vaccines are working properly. Not one, so why would this one work? The faster they come up with a vaccin the chances of success is smaller.

No way in hell. The METV requirements included only 6k€ for six consecutive months. I don't understand what is the purpose of this visa. Yeah, an odd retiree might be prepared to jump through all the hoops and loops but the effect is smaller than a water drop in an ocean. As many have commented these proposals and schemes give the impression of A) individuals completely out of touch with reality and/or B) authorities who do not actually want any foreigners in the country at the moment.
A) is the correct answer, because this new 60 days tourist visa (and also the STV) is the brainchild from the boss at TAT and the minister of tourism and sports.

For the application for a single-entry tourist visa in Switzerland, the Thai embassy lists the requirement of CHF 1,000 in a bank account.
That's not for the new 60 days tourist visa this thread is about. The requirement is ~฿500,000 or the equivalent.

Is 15,000 euro a lot of money in your opinion? Just because you don't have any savings? You must be one of those stranded tourists.

Insurance min $100.000. Imagine how stupid that sounds !
in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
Posted
The minimum coverage of $100,000 is quite low if you check a proper travel insurance from a European insurance company. They normally cover more than that and should not filter out visitors. I agree it's a lot of money if you convert it to baht, though. But when about 37% of UK tourists don't have any kind of insurance when travelling abroad, and when coming here, they go to Phuket where the hospital bills get ridiculously high, I guess you might understand why the Thai government requires a proper insurance.
