  1. Are you joking........ do you not know how to use Google translate ?? and I thought I was a comp blond............coffee1.gif

PS Bankokequaty......you don't copy the pages.....you just copy the URL........photos everything are then modified to the language you want.

Bangkokequite probably meant it is not possible to translate text that is inside a picture:

    640_2015050811390597.jpg

    which is correct.

  2. IMHO to drive a motorbike without a helmet is not a small infringement of the law it is stupidity beyond belief.

On the other hand even in Germany the ticket for "no helmet" is just 15 Euro. But unlike in Thailand it is not possible to pay and continue your travel without the helmet, you have to organize a helmet first.

If you wear no helmet and you have a accident with a head and or brain injury it is very likely that the insurance will claim the money back from you, as it is negligent behavior. So in the end it can cost you big $.

In Thailand a 2000 THB would be a very steep fine for a young student. Most could not pay it by themself so parents would have to pay for it.

Instead they could order them for community service. Clean the beach in a nice orange overall for two days on the weekend. Young Thais would love to collect trash all day in the sun and most areas in Thailand could use a clean up.

If you want to enter the Navy area in Sattahip you have to wear a helmet, otherwise you can not pass the security checkpoints. Very good rule.

They should also fine every policemen or school teacher the tenfold fine !

@Mykthemin, freedom of choice is a good thing, if you are alone on the road.

If you have a accident with another motorbike, car or truck you`ll involve other people in "your freedom of choice".

  3. 18K BTU is definitely more than big enough for a 7M x 5M room (and assuming a 3M height).

18,000 BTU is more than enough for 100 sq, meters.

    There is something wrong there.

Do you mean that you still feel hot in your 35 sq. meters room?

For a 35 sq. meters room just 8,000 BTU is more than enough if you have good insulation.

That must be some pretty outstanding insulation or your target temperature must be almost identical to the outside temperature.

Did you see the pictures Anthony posted ?

That was aprox. 22sqm room, the AC was running at 100% with a target temperature of 18°C ( I photoshoped the remote a little bit as the picture was to dark):

    22013369it.jpg

From 31.1°C to 28.5°C took almost one hour.

The thermometer was directly under the unit but probably not near the air outlet. I assume Anthony set the fan to the lowest setting to archive the coolest air outlet temperature possible.

What I like to know Anthony, was your unit running constantly for the 4 hours or did you turn it off in between.

I have a similar sized bedroom also with a Daikin Inverter, I always have to turn it on about 60 minutes before I go to bed.

My target temperature is about 24°C, when I got to bed and I set it to 26°C during the night.

I was always somewhat unhappy that I need to turn it on something like an hour before got to sleep, but when I see you test pictures it looks like your unit is even worse.

Or was it because you put the fan to the lowest setting?

  4. don't understand the story---merging etc....why not put up the vid?

    why didn't you give way?

Probably because the behavior of the other driver was to pushy for the op or because the bimmer too expensive. It is annoying to stand in a traffic jam looking at some <deleted> car, five times the price of the own car wink.png - isn't it?

Well that is the way they driving here, if you want to change lanes in a traffic jam here and you make it the same as in civilized country like:

    look in your mirrors

    turn on your signal

wait for a kind soul to open a gap for you

    you stand there for hours.

Here it must come as a surprisetongue.png .

If they see your indicator it immediately triggers the "thai close gap behavior". You can turn on your indicator when you half way in the gap.

We don't change that and we not come here to teach road etiquette. When in Rome etc. etc.

On a side note I don`t find BMW, Mercedes or Fortuner etc. the most pushy drivers in Bangkok. By far the most pushy are the bus drivers, followed by truck drivers ! But you would not want to challenge a maniac who sits all day long on a 35 years old bus, would you? He would rip you Ranger apart and not even look backcheesy.gif

Never mind, I answered mainly because of this:

"His g/f/gig/Wife then wound down her window and gave us a Thai soup evil star my wife gave her the finger"

Is your wife also a foreigner? The finger sign can get you in serious trouble in Thailand, people have been killed for it. I would strongly recommend not to use it.

  5. The funny thing about how they worded the title of this article. At first glance, I thought it was a humanitarian plead for help. Then I read and found it to be a drunk driving offense. Fooled again

Aren't all drunks really just pleading for help? Seems this kid didn't learn his lesson in Canada. Too bad his parents allowed him to come here to Thailand to screw up again.

    His parents allowed him....`?

The little boy is 32 years old, do you think he is still asking them for advice?

  6. I have ordered around 20 times from Lazada. Like Harry wrote, look first who offers the product, Lazada or a reseller.

    Positive:

    • Until today I had not once a wrong item delivered.
    • If the product is offered by Lazada (not reseller) they usually very fast.
    • often huge savings

My last order was a TV

Price on Lazada 21000 THB http://www.lazada.co.th/lg-led-smart-tv-50-50lb582t-210189.html

Price in Powerbuy 28990 THB http://www.powerbuy.co.th/th/electronics/tv/d-led-3d-50-lg-50lb650t-smar.html

I had a 1000 THB discount coupon from Lazada, so all in all I saved almost 10000 THB with that single purchase. The TV was delivered within 24h.

    Negative:

    • Pay close attention if the product comes with the original guarantee, if you need that. Especially phones on Lazada come often without the manufacture guarantee.

Three month ago I ordered a Samsung Note 4 for 16000 THB. By that time the phone was around 23000 THB in most shops. The phone is a "Toyota" edition, so Samsung Thailand will not provide any guarantee for that product, if you not have the right document from Toyota.

I knew that when I ordered the phone.

If I order online I always pay by credit card. If there is a problem with the delivery I can contact the bank for a chargeback.
Happened in all the years only once with a CDiscount order, because I was not happy about to wait 1 month for a refund for a not fulfilled order.

I would not buy a phone from a small shop in Tukcom because they also sale very often the grey imports but don`t tell the customer about it.

  7. You can go back to the old layout, just click on 'คลิกที่นี่ '(Click Here) to the left of the one2car logo at top of page.

    or use Google translate.

Personally I think the new layout is an improvement.

    Thanks. saved my day.

    Improvement, in what way?

Say you want just to look at BMW 5-serie F10, but all years available. Possible on the new design?

Just search all BMW 5 and then sort the list by new to old...

    http://www.one2car.com/bmw/series-5/?sort=year.desc

  8. I have a friend who works in Germany at airport customs, I can assure you that there is no exchange of sales data from duty free shops around the world (in germany).

On the other side it is not very likely to get home with your ciggis, 20 carton are not easy to hidecheesy.gif

Don't know how they handle it in the UK, but in Germany once you pass the green channel there is no going back. IE you have to pay the duty plus 100% for the fine, if 20 carton they even start tax criminal proceedings. You can not say " I leave the items here, you can keep it..".

If you use the red channel you can decide between pay or destroy it.

I know that customs in Germany now x-ray most of the luggage on the conveyor belt, they just take a quick look. If they see something they take the bag from the belt for a second screen. My friend told me cigarettes are very easy to recognize with that procedure.

  9. I doubt that you`ll find anywhere in Thailand a Döner made of ground beef. It is not easy to make such a Döner and in the past even in Germany and Switzerland with tight quality and hygiene controls the industry had scandals regarding the meat quality. The whole production process must be very clean and ice cold.

  10. Nothing special there. I paid once almost 60.000 Baht import duties in Schiphol on a my Rolex president, which I wore for many years already, but for which I didn't have receipt.

    The OP wrote:

Here's a nice little tidbit from one of my wife's friends who just traveled over to Thailand to visit her family.

IMHO if you bring your personal bag(s) stuff or whatever with you for a short visit you are not supposed to pay any duties for it.

On my last visit to Germany I had also some problems with customs, although I can only afford a Casio (model: parking attendant aspirant) cheesy.gif the unfriendly customs officer saw my notebook and phone. Both easy to recognize as not bought in the EU because of the keyboard of the notebook and firmware of the phone.

The last 5 years I was one time in Germany for 10 days, and he wanted me to charge for it blink.png They even looked for the prices on ebay.comthumbsup.gif

I had to pay a security deposit and became that money refunded when I flew back to Thailand... Waste of time!

  11. Got his number, time for him to go!!

Will powers that be do anything? Probably not.

I like to know what other members on Thaivisa would do if they have the choice to pay on the spot 100 Baht or drive to the next police station and pay 300 - 500 Baht.
I drive a lot in Thailand and if you ask me, I always choose the pay on the spot 66% discount solution. It saves money and time and points.
Would you prefer to pay at the police station the triple amount?

  12. To buy a Ford or Chevrolet in Thailand you must be very brave. There is a reason Ford and Chevrolet, among a few others, have a much higher depreciation.

I just sold my Toyota Vigo 3.0G AT. I had the car for 9 years and drove 180000km with it.

    Breakdown=0

    Tires changed at 90000km once

Break pads changed once at 100000km service

2 new batteries in 9 years

at 150000km new timing belt (standard service) and water pump, water pump was recommended by the mechanic more as a precaution.

Apart from that only regular service always at Toyota (not expensive)

Never did any service or cleaning to AC and is still blowing ice cold air.

The Vigo was the most reliable car I had in the last 25 years.

I think Ford makes very good looking cars, the Fiesta compared to the old Mazda 2 looks nicer. (I bought the Mazda five years ago)
The new Ranger is IMHO at the moment the best looking pickup in Thailand.

The Focus also looks very modern.

The new Everest coming this year is a real beauty. Ford sales people most of the time very friendly.

Only problem is service in case of a problem and if you have a problem the driving cheesy.gif

If I should need a rental pick up for a 1 day or a week and could decide between a Vigo and a Ranger I would always take the Ranger.

Little bit like the decision between a gogo girl and a farmers daughter. For a short period the gogo girl is nice to look at and makes fun to ride, for the long run the farmers daughter is bettercheesy.gif

The old Ranger (until 2012?) and Everest were tough cars but drove live tractors.

Next month we get a Nissan X-Trail - I really hope it is the same quality as the Toyota, but I doubt it...

  13. I agree with Swissie, the 90 day report is good for nothing.
The last three times I did the report the wanted nothing (i,e. zero, nada) to confirm my address. In the last 11 years I moved once and that was in a three km radius.

In the past they wanted some supporting documents, they usually accepted an electricity bill or internet invoice even if it is not on the name of the person which did the report.

So what they gain with that report? National security?

The good guys report the correct address every 90 days, the other group (Russian mafia, Al Qaeda, Terrorists and fugitives etc.) will not report the correct address, they are not that stupid.

So the whole 90 day report is only waste of time! It is as helpful to the security as a 99 THB styrofoam helmet on a Hayabusa.

On the other hand you can mail the silly slip to them and don't waste any of your time.

  14. Under the back seat of the Vigo is a small compartment with the kit, to find it is the easy part. Then you need to search the crank hole in the back and use the two part crank to turn it in a counter clockwise fashion to lower the tire.

It`s a Pita, first time I did it in the midday heat on the motorway.

I took me something like 45 min and I was pretty dirty afterwards.

Changing a tire on a sedan is a lot easier!

Since that time I have a small 12v compressor, whenever I have a small puncture I try to refill it first to get to the next tire shop for a repair...

  15. If you are around 20 years old forget Ban Chang!

The bar strip is something like 300m.

That is no place for a young men. Also avoid the Thai Karaoke places in Rayong.

Take a bus to Pattaya or register on thaifriendly or something like that.

If your appearance is daylight compatible you should have no problem to find someone your age who is able to communicate or more with you, without paying for it....

You can still visit the strip in Ban Chang in 30 years - if you are a bald, overweight, frustrated golf player that likes to pay a little bit more for his beer to have a very experienced person take care of the rusty old nuts...

Then you`ll perfectly blend in the clique...

  16. I have to agree with the OP. The roads, and infrastructure overall, in China are better. But it's not a place I'd want to live. I've got a few friends there and they say dealing with the internet is very difficult due to the Great Firewall.

But they have some absolutely beautiful roads. Complete with sidewalks no less! Corruption is still rampant in China. But I don't think on the same scale as here. Not sure about that, but it has puzzled me as to why their roads are better.

One thing I really hate there is the constant honking of horns. And the drivers are extremely aggressive. In Beijing over a 7 day holiday, I saw at least 2 people killed. I've never seen that in Bangkok. On guy was a cop directing traffic and they just left him laying there. Sick.

That is 100% true, Couple of month ago I saw a Video on liveleak WARNING !The video is not for the fainthearted ! It was in China in the offical TV news.

If you see video you get somewhat an idea of the road manners in China. Sick is a very polite way to describe it.

  17. Because i provide for My Thai Family choices. The Civic, is my choice and changes at 7.K in Auto with 200KPH easily met on E85 Fuel,..Plus i feel happy for Folks that can afford more than Me. Clearly You Dont. Some good came from this Post,i found out the Nissan has 4WD.biggrin.png

I have absolutely no problem with other opinions or any problem with other peoples choices. I do have a Vigo and a Mazda 2 and just ordered the new X-Trail. I still I think that the pick up is the best value for money in Thailand.

If someone reports he bought a Altis, Civic, Ranger, Camry, E-Class, S-Class I never ever criticized anyone here before in the way you do that all the time!

If I see a someone in a new S-Class or Bentley in Thailand I have no envy in a negative way. And you can be 101% sure that I don`t envy anybody in a Accord or Civic...

It`s just annoying each and every time someone mention the word "Fortuner" , "Pick up", "Ranger" or "Diesel" here, to read your comments... It reminds me of this guys:

    82691.jpg

Although you have been very modest by your standard in this thread.

  18. Well Mr Rayong i have .1 G.M Trailblazer 1 Nissan Calibre 4/4. 1 Accord and 1 Civic all under 2.5 Years old so thank you for your assumptions. No i dont like Diesel personally, they dont pull 8000 + rpm , so You got one bit right..biggrin.png

So since you dislike the diesel why you have bought the Trailblazer and the Navara`? Where is the difference between a Fortuner and the Trailblazer, apart from the rather non existent service from Chevrolet in case of a problem?

I also don`t think that any of your current cars is doing 8000rpm.

This is a new and modern diesel motor:

E350 Diesel 0-250km/h and it is not necessary to come near 8000 rpm because it makes 620nm/1600rpmcheesy.gif

It is just irrationational to repeat again and again that diesel are loud, slow clankers....
