  1. There is a "Friendly" Supermarket in Pattaya which often rubs away the dates from milk products and sell them discounted. Happened to me 2 times with Anchor Cream. That cream is good for 6-7 month, so it doesn't make much difference if it is 2-3 weeks over the date, but to rub away the dates from the container is bold! I now prefer Foodland for my fresh shopping needs.

  2. I'm also interested to know how all those Thai Shops employ the Indian sales staff. For example if you been to Pratunam Indra Hotel, there are quit a few shops selling cheap electronics and textile. Before 6-7 years mostly young Thais worked there as sale stuff.
The Thais often had problems with the attitude of the Indian Customer, as they have a annoying special way to bargain. On the other hand even "regular customers" often had to ask for service, because the Thai stuff was busy playing with there mobile phone.

If you go now to that center, 90% of the sale stuff is Indian and below 30 years. They are extremely motivated (for my taste a little bit over the top....) to sale and also can cope better with difficult customers.

Most people who ever tried to get half decent staff in Thailand and especially in Pattaya can understand why I ask this question biggrin.png ... I don't say it is impossible to find a motivated young Thai, but one needs luck...

  3. Since a couple of years now all cars should have an OBD2 connector. There is plenty of legal software for OBD2 standard, even freeware available.

To answer your question, from almost any make there is also a pirated copy of the "original" car makers diagnostics software available. For an example google BMW Ediabas...

  4. I think NV is only sold with 1.6 engine. Motor still original? Couple of years ago I had a NV AT, it took 8-10 ltrs on 100 km.

A catalysator will not reduce your fuel usage.

I would bring it to Nissan or a mechanic who is familar with this motor.

Change filters, oel, sparkplugs . A very, very dirty air filter can cost fuel but i doubt that much...

Many people converted the NV to LPG to save on fuel. I think with LPG it is around 1,- thb per kilometer.

  5. I think sanook thought she might be moved to another clinic or opened one herself... Which is an information you unlikely to receive from a receptionist paid by PIH, as they will recommend you another dentist who works there.

I'm also a big fan of Dr.Aree. Anyway, she is no longer available for unpredictable time. Until she is back I'll go to Dr. Wongsapat PIH.

The guy is also very carefully. Dr. Wongsapat was recommended to me by Dr.Aree.

  6. I'm due to renew my Non O (married to thai) in April. This year I''m short about 150k and will receive a new payment around 16-18 January.

After that date the required 400k are in the bank, but about 8-10 days to late for a "3-month period".

I read here that in case of Non O the money should be in bank at least two month prior application, but some immigration offices still required it to be 3 month.

Is it two or three month in Pattaya?

  7. Publicity, yes that's true. Even the nation reports about it.

I followed the story and I can understand the old guy somewhat, but to stab a dog 17 times is really just crazy.

I also have a dog and usually if you walk with a large stick, other dogs get the message.

Anyway, Opa snapped and a Golden Retriever died. IMHO it was a massive overreaction from the guy.

To have the cheek and sue the Thai for 300.000 THB after that is really, really extremely stupid, especially if you own a house there.

In general it is not recommended to argue with anybody who belongs to Navy in Sattahip area, as they have a huge network.

If the guy had bought a huge bouquet along with a Golden Retriever puppy and a convincing "I'm really sorry about this..." on his lips,

he may had lived there happily many more years to come...

Well live and learn. Short temper combined with stupidity and topped with a greedy lawyer isn't a good combination.

  8. in the past I woulda said to switch off the ignition and then use the parking brake to stop but that was before the steering wheel lock attached to the ignition...

maybe better to do what I do and sit in the back and play with the kids and hope that the driver knows what he's doing...and I've been lucky in that regard as I watch and assess their judgement from a safety perspective and thus far in Thailand there haven't been any problems...

once on the outskirts of BKK at freeway speed on a busy road the windscreen shattered but stayed intact and the BiL driver remained calm and in control and brought the motor safely to a stop...I screamed as I thought that we were gonna die...the BiL did a good job, much better than I would have been capable of...

Tu turn the ignition off and use the parking brake is a receipt for disaster. There are only two reason to engage the parking brake if your car is moving.

1.) you can`t reach the paddle (for example you are in your favorite position in the back biggrin.png , driver passed out)

2.) you want to make a stunt to impress or scare the shit out of your passengers tongue.png

If you move your steering wheel just a little bit with a pulled parking brake, your car will turn, for most people beyond control.

    This is the correct answer.

Throw it into neutral and brake till you stop then sort out the prob.

The chance to encounter a jammed OEM cruise control are probably the same or less than an airplane crash.

  9. Hi all, finally arriving back in Pattaya on Mon possibly Tues 11 Dec. Have a 12 month partner visa and wondering when I arrive should I as soon as possible report to Immigration or do you wait til end of 90 days? Secondly what is the TM card and where do I get it.

    Brad

You have to report at the end of the 90 days cycle The time window is 14 days in front and 7 days late. If you arrive on 11 Dec., I think 10. March is your 90 days cycle (Sunday)... So you can report between 24. Feb and 17. March.

Make sure your Partner Visa enables you stay inside the country for 12 month in a row. Some Visa valid for 12 month but only 90 days inside the country, after that you cross a border. Of course in that case there is no 90 days report necessarythumbsup.gif .

  10. Thanks to Tom Cruze instigating this Post im definately going for a City,on BHP per Ton alone, its much faster, smaller, better looking when blinged.I was quite keen before i read all the views here.God knows who developed the Engine, a Ford 2 Litre in a City would be nice.biggrin.gif

I can't wait to get out of the City. Commuting 100KM per day on that after 6 1/2 years is no fun.

Basically, now, the Honday City has been renamed, the Honda Brio. I took this pic not long ago

    78f960ab.jpg

and the Honda Civic has turned into a slightly bigger Honda City.

Honda Cars are crap at the moment.

    Or this one:

    Honda City?

    Hahaha

That's what I drive now. It's absolute crap compared to the Cruze.

Honda makes cheap overpriced cars. You can compare the Cruze to a focus. But not to a city.

And the sloppy on bends, I guess you mean when you turn? I disagree. There are plenty of independent Cruze track testing videos that goes in complete contradiction with that. It didn't feel sloppy at all when I drove it. It's not a "sports car", so it won't feel sporty. The 2012 focus will feel a lot sportier on bends.

When will you get the Ford Hatchback though?

    And now:

Do yourself and your son a favor and get a Honda City. Whether you like it or not. Just go buy one.

And forget about the looks and all the bullshit.

Trust me. Get a Honda City. You'll thank me in 5-6 years.

That's a change of mind just after one year of enjoyment in the best car ever built...

  11. Some of the auto detail centers have ozone generators.

Couple of years ago I forgot 1kg minced pork in the car, after the weekend the car smelled extremely. The ozone treatment neutralized the odor completely.

Takes a couple of hours and A/C must running on recirculate during the treatment, ozone works best in cool, dry air.

  12. I can understand you Calzo. I think the taxes are mostly just an excuse. In today's market it is more important what a customer is willing to pay for the item, instead of making a calculation and take a fixed percentage to gain a profit.

For example a Levis Jeans 501 In USA is around 40,- USD, that is about 30.- EURO.

Now if you shop around in Germany the same Jeans is about 70,- EURO. Don't dream about import Levis Jeans from USA to Germany, that is not allowed.

It is a violation of parallel import law. Levis don't like that.

Big C imports frozen Pizza from the old Carrefour brand, they sell it for 109 BAHT something. Fair price.

Foodland has imported Pizza, from USA I think, for a whopping 380 THB. The tax rate should be the same. Is frozen Pizza so expensive in USA?

The butcher in Foodland must also be a multi millionaire ( in EUR !) already by now. He charges the same or higher prices for its products then in Germany.

Only difference is, a worker in Germany has a slightly higher salary then the girls in Foodland.

How long has one of the nice service girls behind the counter in Foodland to work for 1kg "homemade - in Thailand- Parma" ? Maybe a day or more...

The customer base for this products is small. These things are mostly niche produts

in the Thai market and the customer base is willing and often able to pay for it.

I remember a few years ago Garmin Navigation Systems.. Prices were double or triple compared to Europe. I always brought over 2-3 pieces for friends.

If you asked in the shops why so expensive, answer was always sorry Sir, Import tax.

Now Navigation is a mass market product in Thailand, Garmin started to sell the smaller units cheaper. The tax rate is the same as before.

Two month ago I bought a Nespresso machine from Krups in Germany. They had a promo where you get a free Aerolatte machine with every machine they sold.

I bought it for 109 Euro including the Aerolatte and 16 capsules.

You can buy the same machine in Central Pattaya Beach. It sells for 18900 THB, of course the Aerolatte is not included.

It will cost you again something like 3600 THB.

Thats about 22500 THB for a Krups Pixie with Aerolatte or 4400 THB for the same product in Germany.

  13. To test for STD is not an unusual request among Thai couples, the big hospitals even sale Pre-Marrage Packages...

I would tell her upfront and not if in the Hospital. Gonorrhea is easy to cure. If she refuses to take the test, time to look for another party.

I think it has nothing to do with better or good girl... Most clever girls on the game know symptoms of Gonorrhea, Herpes Genitalis or whatever and can easily name the appropriate medication.

A country girl maybe running around with an infection for years, because she just don't know.... Quintessence, good girls have almost the same risk if they know just a few bad boys.

  14. I saw the Nespresso capsules in Central Beach. The price was above 400 THB for 10 capsule, something like 420 THB if I remember correctly. They also had several Nespresso machines on display.

The Krups Pixie was 18990.- THB, I have bought the same machine 8 weeks ago in Germany for 109.- Euro including a Aerocino (old model), that sells in Thailand for about 3000 THB alone.

The capsules and machines are cheaper at the above mentioned website, but still a lot more expensive compared with Europe or USA.
