  1. I've seen coconut flour at macro, but the bag was not small. I think the price was around 300 THB for a Kilo ... It was placed in the aisle with the backing stuff right side at the very bottom shelf.

Never looked for coconut flour at Friendship but I'm surprised that they don't have it.

  2. The optician only issues a production sheet to the company which produces the lenses, the amount of technique involved to produce the latest progressive lenses is extreme and very expensive.

Your filipino optician is not involved in the actual production process, she only fills an order. If the glasses are delivered she can check if the order is made to the submitted specification or not, with her rather limited technical equipment.

The latest CNC machines measure the lense on up to 50000 points up to 1/1000mm , so the local optician can do only a basic check of the lenses.

However, I agree that the person who fills the prescription or submit the production sheet is by far the most important person in the process. If a mistakes happens at this point, there is no chance that the glasses will be any good for you.

If tropos optician is willing to provide the details of the production sheet , every other shop in Pattaya or Thailand which use the same supplier of lenses with the same machinery can produce an identical product - a digital copy.

As I understand Zinny optical is a USA company but lenses are produced in China.

Not every customer from Zinny is happy with there products, frames often described as flimsy and cheap. Well they are cheap...

As mentioned before, Opticians in Thailand are in the fortunate positions that here is not a lot of competition when it comes to high end products.

I live between Sattahip and Ban Chang, a village called Plutaluang - opposite Sirikit Hospital.

There are TWO opticians in this village, one is from the "Top" chain stores.

The "TOP" stores has three employes. I pass that shop about four times a day and because the shop is directly at a traffic light, I often have the pleasure to watch it for 2-3 minutes during red light.

99% of the time there is not a single customer in the shop!

So maybe they have 2-3 Customer a day max, still enough for them.

Shop is in business for about 4-5 years now.

That should give you an idea optical work in Thailand is a very profitable business or not...

  3. Transitional lenses are expensive in Thailand. Couple of month ago was a thread about online ordering Transitions from USA in the Pattaya forum...
If I need new glasses I`ll try that out, get a prescription from Hospital and order online. I am sick and tired of the big optical chain in Thailand with there 53,156875% discount promotion all year long.

  4. Well done to the gentleman for complaining.

Used to have the same problems in the UK at the local Tesco, The worst offenders were middle aged women driving SUV's for some reason. If you politely pointed out they were parking in a disabled area most seemed to look through you and pretend you weren't there. One or two were abusive saying they would park where they liked. Charming. Eventually Tesco started taking action but the appalling attitude of some people who think a bit of money makes them mega important is unreal.

Here, at the local Big C I only use the disabled parking if my son is with us. Most times I manage to get one of the spots buts its annoying to have to struggle in a standard space and then see some prat and his tarted up mia noi waltz out of one of the restaurants and over to his car parked for convenience in the disabled area.

My wife tells me not to say anything here, as Thai people don't like to be corrected by a foreigner; and most like that wouldn't know right from wrong in any case.

This has nothing to do with a foreigner or a Thai corrects another Thai. Thais in general hate being told that they did something wrong and usually fight back instead of admitting the mistake, as you can see in this video:

It is the responsibility of the mall to instruct the car park attendants to keep an eye on who parks there.

But the mall management obviously decide that a customer arriving in a 4-5 million THB Range Rover is likely to spend more money then the average wheelchair user...

  5. Did not see much of this tents in Thailand, but couple of weeks ago I ordered something similar from www.aliexpress.com - prices start around 30 USD incl. shipping to Thailand. Arrived within 3 weeks, delivery by Thai Post - customs was zero.

With the customs you need some luck, I order often from China and sometimes it costs a few Baht.

When delivery is made by Thaipost chances are good you will receive it free, Fedex or DHL always plus VAT.

  6. Just a note on the bank letter, they told me they expire in seven days.

For the bank book update, which they called "book bank", make sure you do some sort of transaction (and the update) on the same day you go in.

I'm doing the 800k method, and they told me to let it season for 60 days. However, every falang I talk to about it says it has to season 90 days, not 60.

I have an emergency trip coming up, so I hope I have my facts straight. If I don't, I will just get a re-entry stamp and come back in before the original 90-day expiry.

    Any comments?

Retirement is 90 days, 400k for married couples is 60 days. I heard some immigration want it 90 days as well.... Never heard immigration want retirement only 60 days, I would rather recommend to season it 90 days - in case you get another agent the next time....

Please don`t misunderstood, I also recommend to go 30 days before your visa expires for your new application.

However, if your 60 days (400k) are full within in very last days of the old extension it does not make any sense to go early!

The agent can not accept the new application before the 60 days are full. Therefore they have to send you home or you waist 1900 in an unnecessary 60 days extension.

  7. You can go on the last day if it is necessary , for example account 400k not 2 month seasoned.

In case on your last day money is still not seasoned long enough, you can apply for another 60 days, pay 1900 and waitcoffee1.gif ....

If you apply for example after another 30 days (1900 again !) , your valid dates for that extension change to the new date of application plus one year.

Maybe long term visa holders could carry a certified true copy of passport along with ID card Thai Visa could ask Police Colonel, otherwise passport theft and muggings will increase if they know everyone's carrying a passport.
I wont carry passport everyday when I live in Thailand.

You could go to Immigration office to get a certified true copy and then you would have to carry that plus a Thai issued ID card or valid DL.

They just asked.. He said no..

I don't understand the whole panic.

If you would ask the fine Police Colonel if prostitution is legal in Thailand he also had to answer: Prostitution is not legal in Thailand. Even Thais wink.png  can get fined or arrested for it.

Last time I drove through my local village the medical massage house with the funny lights that opens up until 03:00 looked pretty busy.

So unless I see some threads on thaivisa.com with the title:

I just paid 2000 THB fine because I had not my original passport with me

it makes no big difference to me.

In the past a valid DL was always accepted, I was once ( in the last 12 years) asked for a passport at a normal traffic control, by a volunteer police...
Answered: Passport is at home, Passport number is on the DL. If you want to check the visa status call immigration , they have it on the computer.

Also the address report within 24h, that is ok for a Hotel, guest house or something like that but if I live 10 years at the same address, I'm not going to report if I plan to stay 2 days at the house of the in laws.

The freaky 90 days report is already a waste of time. What is to report if nothing has changed? Ok, I understand to report a permanent new address within 24h, accepted - but thats it.
Somebody that has a 2 years overstay does usually no 90 day report anyway.

If immigration want 100% control I would recommend to make it mandatory to wear a GPS ankle monitor for all foreigner.

Prostitution is regulated in Thailand, not "illegal" per se. And has no relevance to this thread.

Sent from my GT-S7270L using Thaivisa Connect Thailand mobile app

I know that prostitution has no direct relevance to this thread, I just used it as an example of a law that is in place but seldom enforced. It is still possible to fine a prostitute up to 1000 THB and or up to a month in prison for shameless behavior or something like that. The law is from 1996.

What you think would happen if the immigration decides to check just 100 Tourists on a daily basis on Patong Beach or Jomtien for passports and fine them each from 2000 THB  to 20000 THB  if they not carry the passport?

The Sun, Guardian and Bild would love to publish a story like that.

For me it doesn't matter, I don't have any financial interest in tourist numbers or expat numbers in Thailand, more the opposite.

To replace a lost or damaged passport cost me about 8000 THB just for the fees, not counting the time and trouble to replace it.

So if police not start to do regular checks for passports I'll not start to carry it around.

  10. I drove past cartoon network water park on Monday. There where already a few children, probably from the construction site, playing in the water. At first I thought they already opened so I stopped and asked a security guard.

He told me soft opening is on 31. July.

  11. Out of curiosity, Thomaspaul, how far do you live from your immigration office?

They were supposed to check me for my 'O' marriage extension but never bothered - I live 150+ Kms from the office.

    Thanks.

"That is unkown? I don't think that it is unknown. If you are supposed to renew your visa in April and immigration visits you end of July you'll pack your bag...."

The Trolls are awake, I see.

What you mean by the trolls are awake? OP wrote that immigration visited him because they thought he had not renewed his extension of stay which ended in April. Luckily he did:

if immigration visits you at home and you have 4 month overstay it is time to say good bye, and that has nothing to do with any changes.

I`m married 23 years in Thailand, immigration promised 2-4 visits over the years, but they came never. I live about 45km from the immigration office..

They still want every year a photo from us in the living room, in the bed room and in front of our house ....

  12. so immigration are trying to actively hunt down overstayers now

this could be a little worrying

What happens if you do not reside at the address given?

That's is unknown, but you always has to give the immigration the current address you reside.

That is unkown? I don't think that it is unknown. If you are supposed to renew your visa in April and immigration visits you end of July you'll pack your bag....

  13. I read through the pages - tragic obviously - but why 160 kms of course - if I understand it correctly?

Yea it smells, since they lie about 370...

Igor Strelkow posted yesterday on a russian network site, that they shot down an AN-26:

    screenshot.png

Later he deleted it again. Why ? He also deleted on Twitter, that they have captured a BUK rocket system from the Ukrainian army, capable of attack planes and rockets above 20km altitude.

Later he said, his group does not have a weapon to attack a plane flying so high...

You think that is a coincidence or what?

The recorded phone calls are also fake...?

Of course they did not want to shoot at a passenger plane, it was an extremely tragic accident.

  14. If you have young children I would recommend a visit to the Pipo Pony Club.

I was there yesterday afternoon with my daughter. Until 10th July entry is free.

The place is spotless clean. The large gentlemen toilettes have two 24000 BTU AC running, and for the Ladies it is the same.
Don't know how much they will sale the tickets after the soft opening , but it doesn't look cheap.
There is a coffee and a restaurant, both are open already.
A round piece of chocolate cake with two layers and about 10cm diameter is 150 THB.
My daughter really enjoyed it because of the mini ponies.

The place is near the Million Stone Park, directly opposite Norway Viking Village.
