  1. Now I'm hoping, although not holding my breath, that the Father of this young lady will be investigated to whether he had legal means to own this weapon. coffee1.gif

Police contacted the woman via Facebook and arranged to meet her to purchase the firearm, a 9mm Glock semi-automatic handgun. As the suspect arrived at the meeting point, on the railroad between Soi Kao Noi and Soi Kao Talo in East Pattaya, Police ambushed the pair and recovered the licensed firearm.

  2. I heard from another bakery that friendship charges a whooping 20% commission on the sale price, so I'm sure Rick or any other bakery would be glad if you buy the stuff from them directly.
I also buy some stuff sometimes at friendship but what I really dislike is when they rub off the "best to use date" from the dairy products and put a "special sale " sticker on or over it.

If UHT whipping cream is 2-3 weeks over the date it is usually still good, but I do like to know how many weeks it is over the best before date...

  3. Sammitr have many canopy to choose, can find service center near where you live.

    Stop spamming Mr. Sammitr.

FYI, I work in the accessories industry for pick-up vehcles and it is believed by the vast majority of accessory dealers and manufacturers that Sammitr the canopy is not even in the top 10 of the best canopies.

There are many quality problems, design problems and a massive after sales service problem (due to the yearly change of the senior managers).

Independant12, as I say I am in this trade and it would be neither ethical nor fair to tell you which canopy I believe to be the best, as my view is biased.

Honestly, if I were to buy a canopy I would stick with the bigger firms but i would definately avoid Sammitr.

    Now Mr. Sammitr,

If you continue to make new accounts to spam our board, I will tell all of the nice members here of your dirty unethical practices and the quality problems that plague your canopy.

I agree with the comment of tonytigerbkk regarding the spamming issue, it is obvious as all "1 post users" are registered within the last 2-3 days, always two users within a couple of minutes.

However, I disagree about the quality of the SUV Plus cab. I have that cab on a vigo since 5-6 years. The only problem I have are the faded brake lights. The color faded a lot in the sun, which gives the whole canopy a very used look. Otherwise no rust, or any other problems.

On the last motorshow in BKK I was a the Sammitr booth to take a look around... I told them that in general I'm satisfied with the canopy, but the faded lights problem etc....

There were aware of the problem and offered free exchange of the plastic parts. Since most times I have not much time when I'm in BKK I wasn't there yet, but I'll go in a couple of weeks.

Before the Sammitr I had a Carryboy. Carryboy was not bad either, in 5 years once a broken lock and the door got a bit flimsy. Well, it's a canopy and not a door on a S-Class...

  4. the logo is blocking the eyes and for what? for some copyright thingie that seems more important than to be able to identify the pedo

The logo is pasted into the picture with a macro, it is always and in every picture at the same place. Not nice, but I have a feeling if someone knows the guy, they will recognize him.

If Police release a photo they must be 100% confident that he is guilty. If the old guy is clever enough he searchs for a rope and a tree now or surrender to police.

If friends of the parents find him first, the last hours in his live will be painful. I wish him the latter.

  5. Sandman77 if you have a Paypal account that is linked to a Thai Bank you can only withdraw THB to that account. It does not matter you have USD, GBP, EUR or whatever in the Paypal account. IE if you decide to withdraw 100 USD Paypal convert it to 3100 THB something...

The exchange rate is always lower compared to the bank. The paypal deposit to your account takes 4-7 days and it is not from a foreign account. Paypal sends the money from within Thailand.

So I don't understand your question.

  6. To get a driving license most people go to the immigration for a letter of residence.

Then you come to the 90 days report and the accept a copy of the driver license to confirm the address. Where is the logic in that?

Quite simple in my opinion. Since you hold a driver license mean that immigration have verified the address earlier, otherwise you would not be able to have a driver license.

So immigration have verified the address earlier...coffee1.gif How did they do that?

Couple of years ago it was like this:

Go to immigration with two photos and a utility bill (as you wrote, doesn't have to be in your name), next day your certificate is ready.

If you was willing to pay 100 THB (the old times) you got it within 2 hours...

Now price is more something like 300 THB but the extensive verification procedure is still the same.

Szenario 2, applied for the driving license with the resident certificate from your own embassy ( which is usually a lot more $$).

That is even more senseless, as the embassy will write down whatever address you provide them. They don't even need the utility bill...

So in the end, the immigration is sure that you actually live at the reported address, because every 90 days you confirm that information, that you gave to them in the first place.

I'm sure 99.80% or more of all the foreigner, which do the 90 days report, do it truthfully (and unnecessary every 90 days) but the 0.20% which have bad intentions or maybe suspect that a visit from the BIB or Interpol in the future could be possible, will of course not provide the correct address.

So the 90 days report is as helpful to security in Thailand as this bucket is for transporting water:

    leaking-bucket.jpg

  7. I did the 90 days report at Jomtien Immigration after Songkran, my one year extension ends 5 or 6 June.

The (90 days - 2 stamps) Officer, that often looks TV or Youtube on his phone during his hard work, told me two times that the 90 days report is:

No same same Visa, you come back for make new Visa. You visa finish next month, ok? Not forget!

He also wrote a note on the 90 days slip regarding the permit ends in June.

In my opinion the whole 90 days report is a total waste of time. It is good for nothing.

Also the whole application process for extension of stay for married couples is stupid. I'm married 26 years to the same woman, yet I have to supply the 3 photos every year and copy every single document two times as in the year before.

The immigration in BKK must have more pictures from me in front of my sofa then I do. If they would streamline and organize the process, there wouldn't be so many people waiting.

To get a driving license most people go to the immigration for a letter of residence.

Then you come to the 90 days report and the accept a copy of the driver license to confirm the address. Where is the logic in that?

  8. Those mirrors are used when you're actually doing serious off-road driving. You can see what your offside front wheel is biting into and also see how close to the edge of the bluff you might be on a narrow mountain track.

I hadn't considered them as being a "parking aid". whistling.gif

OK. Then I am glad that I helped you see their broader use potential. wai2.gif

    From the internet:

"TOYOTA GENUINE FJ CRUISER FRONT PARKING FENDER MIRROR RHD JDM"

"I think it's called a Parking or Sport Mirror. You can put this in your search on Ebay and see what it comes up with. Walt"

I would seriously doubt that more then 1/10 of 1% of these mirrors are sold to people intending to use them for "serious off-road driving", as they are very small and the visibility at any speed would be poor at best, so you would likely be over "the edge of the bluff" before you saw it in the mirror. Parking may actually be their best, perhaps only, real use. So, if you have one on your vehicle, be very careful how you use it! Next............

Yes exactly, the fisheye effect is extreme it is difficult to judge if your fender or tire is 5cm or 15cm from the other car or stone. There are people using them for off-road driving, I've seen it.

Anyway once you get used to the dimensions of the car, the driver has usually a better feeling about the distance then the little fisheye mirror is able to reproduce.

Costs something like 1000 THB and if you don't mind the looks it helps in the first weeks or month.

I wonder when the first thai made cars are available with a surrond camera system like Range Rover:

New Honda Accord now has a blind spot camera in the left rear mirror integrated.

  9. A couple of years ago I had that mirror on my first Vigo, as I was a little bit uncomfortable parking. However, you don't see much in that mirrors (fisheye). On the next Vigo I gave it a miss.
In my experience you need 2-3 month to get used to the dimension of the new car (in case it is a lot bigger then your last ride) and then thats it...

Although on the rear sensors I don't want to drive without. 10 years ago only a few percentage of the cars had rear sensors installed..

Now almost every car has sensors or camera, some cars have a lot more cameras...

Couple of weeks ago I had to change the rear bumper of my car, because someone hit me on a traffic light.

I had to drive 4-5 days without the bloody sensors and felt sometimes uncomfortable parking without any "beeping help"...

It's funny, one parks cars 20 years or so without sensors and without any problems, then drives a car with sensors for 5-7 years and gets insecure if the sensors not there doing the beeping job...

Same goes for mobile phones and memorizing phone numbers from other people...

I even have a problem to remember the mobile no. from my wife, and I'm married 26 years and she did not change the number in the last 11 years...

On the other hand, because of security reasons I never save the telephone number of the gik in my phone but I remember her number always when neededcheesy.gif

  10. The item that you have posted was not EMS but regular registered airmail.

You have dispatched it on 4. April in Jomtien. It was delivered on 26. April in Porter / TX.

That is a normal transit time for priority airmail to US.

If you had sent it EMS it would

    a.) a lot faster

b.) the tracking number starts with E instead of R.

Ps: you can track it on usps.com

  11. What would have happened if the child would have some how, got the car into gear? I guess the child wasnt worth more to him, than the trash! Just love the way parents here are so responsible.

For a two years old child it is not possible to put the car in gear accidently, as you have to press the brake at the same time you move the gear lever.

If you not press the foot brake, it is not possible to move the gear lever.

At 10pm probably the girl was sleeping and father wanted to buy something in 7eleven, he didn't want to lock the car from the outside because of the running A/C...

Daughter wakes up, daddy not there and accidently pressed the door lock button....

You live and learn. Happened to me before, but im my case it was a french bulldog who locked the car with a running engine at 7eleven.

Spare key at home, a phone call and 10 minutes later I could open the car...

Now I have a turbo timer, so I can leave the car and lock it a with a running engine.

Running motor + Air Conditioning = snoring bulldog in the backseat...

  12. Extreme low or high temperatures are not good for batteries. In very cold environment people often uses some sort of insulation or electric heating, but there is also a Thermo barrier available for hot zones:

    0_13200.jpg

What I've experienced is, that in extreme hot climate the battery often dies without any warning at all, usually within 3-5 years.

One day it pulls the starter through like always, next day starter is not moving at all.

  13. That's the kind of input I was looking for. I guess the Fortuner cab must be several hundred k heavier than the Vigo's then. I'll just have to be the hick farmer around Bangers then smile.png. Dunno about the nature of the shocks Transam

What makes you think the cab could be several hundred kg heavier?
When Toyota weighted the car, the ego of the driver is not taking into account - otherwise most Fortuner drivers had to drive always alone (and still being massive overloaded)...wink.png
I would think it is no problem to transport 1000kg in a Tuna, but distribute most in the middle of the car.
A 4 door vigo with the load mostly in the back is not much fun to drive neither, as it hangs and you have no weight on the front axle. On the plus side, steering is a little easier cheesy.gif.
A 2 door vigo and the load nicely distributed drives nice (maybe more comfy then empty).

you wont have much room for 250.000...

first and most, forget the exotics, SEAT, KIA, MERC....

then get realistic....apart from not buying auto gear, the rest of the post i feel is a bit away from what is available really for your bucks.

btw, if you buy for transporting thais, for them the back of a pickup is relative confort...and there you go, you might find a decent 2 door pickup for your price range smile.png

I tend to agree with you about the "exotics" as you call them, but I don't see why you'd say that the rest of my post is unrealistic.

The options listed are based on real cars that I have seen on one2car, Taladrod or in the odd car tent that I have looked round.

For example, a 2006/2007 APV is around 260k, an Avanza from 2005 about the same.

Zafiras can be as low as 200k, but you get what you pay for!

Or do you mean that all of them will be piles of scrap for the price?

Unfortunately the car is for transporting my family and occasionally my in-laws... my last three cars at home were the E30 325i in my avatar, an E39 528i saloon, and an E39 525i Touring. My In-laws have an E60 525i and an E36 325i..... you could say that I'm loathed to leave BMW behind, but needs must when the devil vomits in your kettle....

If your in-laws usually cruise around in an BMW E60 I recommend to dismiss the idea of buying an old 2 door pickup for the weekly family trips to Tesco and the local Moo Kata Shoptongue.png

I have a feeling your mother in-law does not like to crawl out of the back of a pickup with a hairdo like Don King out of the wind tunnel giggle.gif

  15. Just looked at the MUX specification and its seems that we do have a Cruise control , guess my wife has not found it yet ?? as we have the top spec model , also the rear suspension is nothing like the Fortuner its not a live axle beam with coils springs ,, its a proper independent coilspring but 5 way multi link design .

Cruise control should be banned, nothing worse than these annoying people that flick on the cruise control set to 70 then stay in the right lane on the motorway absolutely refusing to move over!!!!!

MU X is a nice motor, enjoy.

Everyone is entitled to have his own opinion, but most people which want to ban cruise control or afraid to use it don't know the proper way.

The switch for CC is usually near the turn signal, very easy to reach. You can not only set the speed, but also moderate accelerate or decrease speed, turn it of or recall the last set speed.

To turn off CC you can also use brake for a millisecond.

So if I like to drive 120km/h on the highway, set CC to 120km/h and after 90 seconds or 4-5 minutes the traffic gets slower, I just hold the decrease button for a second and can adjust my speed to the car in front of me. Once the way is clear again I reset the old CC speed by hold the switch forward. Cruise control is not like in the "60 where one button is on the dashboard is for turn on or off.

I like it, because I drive a lot and I want to move around with my leg from time to time. If I have Cruise Control on, my foot rests in front of the brake.

I don't have to mind about the maximum speed, as I set that before.

All I have do to is observe the traffic.

If you ever used a car with Adaptive Cruise Control you never want to drive without again.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9YYeFYEAGmM

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=own_VaRZ9M8

I bet in ten years from now adaptive cruise control is standard in most cars, like ESP or Airbag now.

I don't want to talk your new car down liddelljohn, I just chuckled a little bit about the hiso stuff...

The MUX is a SUV like Fortuner, Pajero, Trailblazer etc. Not more and not less. Certainly good value for the money in Thailand.

But it is as much Hiso as a Accord or a Camry.

My brother in law just bought a MUX two weeks ago, before he had a Fortuner.

About CC you may check that again, I think it is not available for now on the Thai version.

In Australia the MUX has CC, so sooner or later it will be available for the Thai market as well.

Isuzu loves to through every year a new superlative version on the market like:

Gold Edition, Platin Edition, Titanium Edition, Super Gold, Super Titanium etc. So they probably withhold some extras in Thailand for now.

I don't know the car is available with CC or not, but if you have one in front of your house, why don't you take a look?

  16. 160.000 km is a lot of work for one of those belts. I am amazed they last that long!

You can be sure a genuine belt will go waaaaay further than 150,000km. That figure is so know one with that engine will have a failure.

I had the belt changed about 1/2 year ago on my Vigo. As it is customs here, they like to dumb the old parts in the car, obviously as "proof" the really changed it.... However, the old belt looked brand new, no cracks at all.

There is a special sticker in the belt box, after they changed the belt they put the silver sticker on the cover. So everyone can read at what km and date the belt was changed.

Some shops recommend to change the water pump at the same time as the belt.

I paid about 10,000 THB for the timing belt kit, new water pump and 150000km service at Toyota.

  17. The thai must then be an idiot. That he believes that one can purchase a genuine Rolex watch 110000 baht.

A genuine Rolex watch in Denmark can easily be sold for more than 1 million Danish kroner.

More than 5 million baht. And it's not just because it's Denmark, but a genuine rolex watch has roughly the same price worldwide.

110000 baht so you know that it is fake watchwai2.gifcheesy.gifcheesy.gifbah.gif

If you look on ebay you'll find used Submariner starts in the price range around of 3-4k USD, something like 20000 Kroner.

It is very likely that the watch sold by the Swede was an extreme good fake!

There are fakes available for 10.000 Baht and more, these copies are so good even a watchmaker or staff in a pawn shop has to open the watch to check it. Weight, feel and look is identical to the real thing, with box and since color lasers are so cheap, even with an invoice and matching serial number.

The price of 110000 THB for a mint steal submariner was very good but not insanely cheap for a "emergency sale".

A light case of greed eats brains. If you want to buy a used Rolex, take it to a watchmaker and pay after the inspection.

If the buyer said, lets meet in Central Beach 5th floor for the payment, the seller never showed up...
