  1. Well, well, Mr Bill, if I might, I would say you managed to achieve in your day something quite remarkable, almost unheard of, in fact, the opening on this forum of a thread with not the slightest connection to Chiangmai, that nevertheless has survived a whole day and is still going strong! Bravo! Hats off!

  2. "Anyone Have A Spouse Looking For Work?"

I guess you meant "Anyone Have a Female Thai Spouse Looking For Work?"

:) (I just cant help myself sometimes :D)

If you cannot help yourself, then I shan't help mine. Why pose the question in relation to spouses at all? Why not just ask whether anyone is looking for work? :D

  3. In your opinion, how many people would share the "Aromatic" duck normally if having other dishes? It is fairly expensive for one person, but I would guess that it would be at least a few small portions.

By the way, did they have "Peking Duck" on the menu? I seem to remember something that I thought was the original dish.

We ordered the half-size aromatic duck, and it was more than enough for four. We did not notice Peking duck on the menu, but it could have been there.

  4. Hey, Ulysses G. Good to see you today, and very glad you liked it. Yes, my wife and I went there for dinner the other day, with two friends of ours. We had a number of dishes, including one with the name, or something like it, of 'aromatic duck', which was similar to Peking duck, differing though in that the meat and skin were in one mixture to be loaded onto the pancakes. All the dishes we had were very good, and all four of us plan to go back.

  5. I thought 'youse' meant 2 or more girlie sheep. Very popular for Kiwi and Welsh orgies.

Funny. You put me in mind of a Far Side cartoon. A bear, seen through a gun's sight, is looking directly back through the sight at the hunter, with an ingratiating grin on his face, as he points helpfully toward another, oblivious bear standing next to him.

  6. I always go by car, and yet again yesterday I was able to park inside the moat nearby The House.

Spoken like the Dutch person you are. You perhaps do not realise it, Nienke, but there are people, including many Americans, who find it challenging to walk from where they park their cars to the adjoining curb. For such people, the idea of parking all the way over on the other side of the moat and walking for quite possibly up to two whole minutes to reach Tuskers is simply a non-starter. :)

  7. Well, that's a very long sentence. I do hope you'll get parole. :D

With my poor English it take long time for me to write each word, like that long sentence you have read it longer than 30 minuites for me to write it. Is parole mean promise :) ?

No. MonsieurHulot was making a joke, based on the fact that 'sentence', in English, has another meaning too, the period for which a judge directs that a criminal shall spend time in prison for his crime. For example, a criminal who receives a '20 year sentence' has to spend 20 years in prison. If the criminal gets 'parole', it means he gets let out of prison earlier than his original sentence.

  8. . . . I think that a chicken burrito with a side order of half rice and half refried beans and a delicious lemonade would be almost 300 baht. . . .

Miguel's chicken burrito and side order of half rice and half beans with lemonade still sits at only 230 baht, and you could add the delicious apple burrito with ice cream and have a wonderful full meal for only 330 baht :D

You all must have iron wills. Sure, the lemonade's good, but you know the margaritas are better. And if you don't, I sure do. :)

  9. My search skills may be more limited than I think, but as far as I can tell, and it surprises me that it should be so, the subject of what the best Chinese restaurant in Chiangmai is does not seem to have come up before.

So, what do you all think? What's your favourite Chinese restaurant in town?

I've been twice to Yangzi Jiang on Nimmanhaemin's Soi 5, both times for dim sum only, and was very favourably impressed, so much so that I plan to go back some time soon to try some other dishes.

  10. So your using a mini as a multimedia server?

Could be, but I cannot answer definitively because I am not certain what multimedia server means.

What software do you use? (unfortunately I have an aversion to iTunes - which is keeping me away from the whole apple migration thingy - at least until this, probably my last pc, dies.

Do you mean, what software do I use to run both displays? I don't know, whatever is on the mini for that purpose. I assume it is just part of the operating system. Or do you mean, what software do I use to run media, like music, movies and so forth? I use iTunes for most of my music, I use iPhoto for images and I use a couple of different applications for video.

I've also looked at the appleTV, but looks to be just an expensive HD - ie its features like downloading TV/vids etc are only for the American market??

I looked into that too, at one time, but lost interest when I learned the only material it will handle is what you buy from Apple.
