Tell that to the people who paid 29,000 a baht 6 years ago.

Tell that to all the people who bought gold over the last five years and held.  they are ALL making money.

If gold goes from 1 to 1,000,000 it's NOT a bad investment because someone paid 1,000,000.  Only for a select few.  if that's the case, then everything is bad because everyone doesn't make money all the time.

You are very proud of yourself calling other people dumb, aren't you? Not everyone has a choice to just move away from the north. People have jobs, businesses, mortgages, kids in schools and unis, etc. Your words clearly demonstrate an overrated feeling of self esteem and total lack of empathy for others. Nice guy you are

I'm talking about farangs, of course.  What farang would get a business in a place with toxic air all year?  what farang would get a mortgage or bring kids to toxic air?  or put their kids in school?

this is a farang website, of course I'm talking about farangs.  Yes, farangs in CM are dumb.  really dumb.  the dumbest.  LOL

Yes, I have a total lack of empathy for farangs who are too weak to leave.  Yes, I'm smarter than every single farang who stays in CM.  100%.  I'm proud of that.

you think every post on this site is directed at locals if not specified? LOL

  3. Hey everyone.  I am enjoying my retirement, my kids love playing outside, and we spend about 100,000 baht a month for such a relaxing atmosphere.  I hope everyone continues to spend their money and take nice walks in the morning, afternoon, and night.  I want to care about my health and happiness, but the toxic air actually makes it more difficult to concentrate.  I'm so glad everyone voted CM #1.   Now I see why.

    555.  I haven't been to CM since January, 2019.  Since I have a working brain, I'm not dumb enough to be there now.  Was I there for the smoke in 2018?  Nope.   2017?  Nope.  Could you imagine someone experiencing the smoke and then staying for another smoky season???   OMG.   Only experienced it ONCE.  Anyhow...Have fun everyone!!!!

After my two months in Thailand where my wife and I have our home, I just returned to South Korea where I work. Normally when getting off the plane I use the "Smart Immigration Pass" that Korean citizens and residents are both eligible to use. I was directed this time to go to an immigration counter, even though I should my "Smart Pass" sticker, while Koreans on the same flight were still permitted to use the pass and just swiped their passports. I asked the IO if a non-Korean was more likely than a Korean to have the virus. She looked at me confused so I just smiled and said "never mind". Fear makes countries do some illogical things.

You say "illogical," but do you really have all the information????  Perhaps a tourist does have different travel behavior, on average, than a resident.  Perhaps they know your travel history.  Perhaps they do this to let others feel safer.  Perhaps it was a random direction.

Can you explain to me their protocol?  Oh, no you can't.  Typical of farang to know everything and explain everything to other countries how they are illogical .....  i'm sure you are critical of the entire world.  amazing.

  5. I can't believe the UNEDUCATED idiots who say stuff like, "dude, car crashes and the flu is worse."

China has SHUT DOWN a city of 15 MILLION, and restricted movement for perhaps hundreds of millions of people.

Stock markets worldwide are crashing, severely

Other countries are locking down communities.......there is panic.

Please explain to me how this is the same as the flu or car accidents.

    can't fix stupid

  6. In five-years, I've met hundreds of farangs and Thais.  Most farangs are poor, have mental issues, insecure, lost, and mad they can't escape themselves.  However, 1 in 10 is normal for a significant period of time.  The real normal ones don't stay.  There are lots of them.

A rich or poor Thai will talk with you if you can speak Thai.  If a guy, they usually want to share a drink.  You are interesting until you aren't.  That might be because of your weak bank account or lack of Thai.

Expect 90% to quickly disclose a major issue, or to reveal something crazy after a few days.  The best way to find someone "normal" is to find them doing something you also like to do.  Run, swim, whatever.  Then you both are probably in the same boat.

  7. PLEASE, use your gut instinct.  We all know this could spread around the world.  We all know we must be extremely smart about this.  If possible, get food for three months and chill.  What's three months of your life?  Wash your hands, wash everything.

Thailand might be a hard place to administer tests to the millions of people living in and around big cities.  as well as in the farms.  But they would if they could.

If your gut instinct says go hang out with 10,000 Chinese at a hospital, then Darwin had you in mind.

If meteors are falling from the sky, I don't need to wait until I get a twitter update.

  8. I hope someone sues the WHO.  For zillions.  They knew it was super dangerous, acted negligently, and you traveled to a place where they KNEW it was unsafe to travel to.....  i know, not likely.

but when people put money over our lives!!!  oh wait, that's everyone.

Act like everyone is super, super dangerous.  act like your beer has corona....wear a giant rubber chicken suit.

don't worry, in the year 3094 this will all be forgotten.  imagine dying right before the worst pandemic humans have ever seen???  we are safe here, for sure, but soon there will be one person left in china.

  10. Let me do some quick math.  I think my last contract worked out to be about five weeks of vacation for nine months.  There are many days that simply turn into some "activity" or exams or something else that cancels classes.  Plus another week of giving exams, so that's really like six weeks off for nine months.  But, yes, summer camp, and a zillion little extra projects that amount to about an extra 30 hours.  Zero stress stuff, but it's still work.

A good school will offer a 12-month contract.  My first one was maybe 18-months, but that doesn't come without its headaches.

In hindsight, I think a 6-month contract makes sense.  If you don't like the school, leave.  easy.  Suffering for another six months isn't good.

The KEY is to come to Thailand with lots of money and only teach for fun money.  Keep your burn rate down.  If you are a poor teacher, you must leave immediately and go make real money.

  11. Like other countries....SOME people won't like you, and make you feel stupid.  Some people really want to understand you, and they make an effort.  It's funny when even saying KoorooNa or Corona will have people completely confused even if you point to their mask and ask, in thai, if they are infected (only do this with a friend).

Honestly, it doesn't matter.  Lean a little Thai for your day-to-day life of buying food and saying hi and all the very simple stuff.

even if you really learn Thai, I'm sure you won't have any deep conversations like you would in English.  Not a language thing.  Maybe cultural.
