Is Thailand a good place to settle down for the rest of your life?

Tell that to the thousands who live in the US with their Thai wives, many of them working in restaurants they both opened. Seven actually I know personally in San Antonio. When women leave Isaan, they rarely come back. -
Swiss Barber Arrested for Illegal Work and Taunting Thai Police

Only an idiot, which he's proven to be countless times, spends that much on haircuts and especially, gets those results. Yes, he did start with money from his father. He belongs in jail, and hopefully for Americans, goes there and doesn't become another disaster president. You start with millions and rape the earth for profit, develop areas that are woodlands and , along with many others, make good investments, and you can become a billionaire. -

No, actually it depends on your lack of sense. Of course some blow their money because some have more money than they are worth and like to brag. You can get a pro haircut everywhere and pay less than $50 USD, and a lot less if you don't want to spend that much. My friend used to charge $25 and he was one of the best around, with more customers than he could tend to. Trump got where he is because he started as a millionaire with his dad's help. He made millions more with others help also. Not hard to do when you start out with 20 million. -

I know the costs of salons and barber shops. I have friends in the businesses. I was talking about just a cut, as I mentioned. -

Thai Nationals Arrested in Taiwan Prostitution Crackdown

No father figure or abusive father or another family member or family friend. No sense of worth because of this. Unstable "parents" who push them into the trade because they want money and make them feel guilty if they don't help. They of course are looked down on by the elders but so are most others that do better than they do anyway. Women here are looked at as inferior right from the start so their self esteem takes an immediate hit. -
Is Thailand a good place to settle down for the rest of your life?

All big cities are much the same. That's why I mentioned if he's a city person he will feel at home in Bangkok, as most any other large cities. If one likes country areas and outdoor things, then the cities are only good for dining and shopping. -

You pick the wrong Thai woman and you'll be missing a certain body part if you cheat on her. And cheating is wrong anyway.- 91 replies

Is Thailand a good place to settle down for the rest of your life?
fredwiggy replied to RolandRat's topic in General Topics
Never move to an area before you visit it a few times, and stay for as long as you can vacation. Try it in both seasons here, because the rainy season makes it hard to do much of anything during it. If you are okay with hot weather all of the time, with just a little break here and there, it's okay. Remember if you have any hobbies , make sure Thailand has them available, or you will get very bored here. Besides the beach areas, after awhile, the rest all looks pretty much the same, and unless you're a gardener type that likes spending a lot of time growing and planting things again, you will get bored quickly. If you're a bar person that likes to spend a lot of time in bars drinking, you'll be okay here, as that's a national pastime here, but your wife might get angry unless she's also into it. There is a lot of foreign food here but not much in the country areas besides the larger cities, so you might have to travel, unless you're okay eating Thai food all the time. Your best bet is to find a Thai woman you can bring back to your country, unless you are tired of where you're living and need a change. If you like the big city life, Bangkok has most everything you will need, and the beaches aren't far away. The beach areas are the best thing about Thailand, and aren't near as boring as the country areas. -
Venomous Jellyfish Warning Issued for Phuket’s Racha Yai Island

Should be more worried about the Box Jellyfish, as the Portuguese rarely kills. And the Portuguese are pretty easy to spot. -

Who in their right minds pays 4000 baht for a haircut anywhere on earth? You can get a professional cut anywhere for less than 2000 baht, and even a lot less with only cutting done. As far as the barber, he shouldn't be arrogant but apologizing and making sure he doesn't work here illegally again. -
Is it safe to take a taxi alone in Bangkok?
fredwiggy replied to Rachel2023's topic in Thailand Travel Forum
Be on the phone with a friend when you are picked up, and take pictures of the license plate and drivers picture inside the cab, sending those pictures to the friend, letting the driver see this. Try to keep talking to a friend, taking pics along the way, and sending them along, letting the driver see this. During the trip, ask them to call you back periodically, letting them know where you are at the moment, until you reach your destination safely. Don't trust anyone here, although most taxi drivers are probably okay. -

“I would like to issue a warning to others. Don’t be reckless and leave anything behind. You cannot trust anyone, especially foreigners,” the woman remarked during her interview with the media"..........Especially foreigners? We are a lot more likely to not get involved in illegal activity, seeing most of us living here get a decent retirement or pension, and tourists usually have enough money to get by because it's a vacation for them. . She isn't taking into account the thousands of thefts by locals daily here, along with other crime. Foreigners coming here and doing this isn't good for the rest of us for sure, but her comment makes us look like more of a problem than what goes on here daily by locals. People steal from my land all the time, and this includes vegetables, fruit and puppies. Theft has no boundaries, and more crime is always done by those that live in countries as natives than visitors...........This also........."Other users expressed fears of rising crime rates, suggesting more stringent measures for foreign visitors".............What can they do? You can\t tell if someone is a criminal unless you run his history when he arrives, which I'm sure wouldn't be an easy task, and many criminals don't have a record, especially the rich, white collar crooks that get past laws with money.I'm sure most of us who live and visit here are law abiding people who spend most of our money here, take care of women and children, and help out locals.- 91 replies
