I head regularly to Nakhon on business and was looking for recommendations of where to eat, either falang or Thai food at reasonable prices.
I am often on day trips so places open for lunch would be a bonus.

Some beautiful and as yet mostly undiscovered beachesPlenty of things to see between Surat & Nakhon Si.

No tv, no radio, curfew and no electricity, its a great country we live in.

Are you sure it is not iron in the water, this is a common problem in Phuket and can be fixed with the addition of a berm filter, the stainless filter tanks with all the taps on the front you see for sale

Good idea for your new beach houseLooks like a strawberry pot.

Looks like where I live! Here , this is where I would go, less than 10 minutes to the major town etc, low rents, great food.
My own piece of paradise.
From room to beach, just walk across the road ! No tourism, no commercialism, unspolit.

My wife and I have bought land before using a lawyer who had power of attorney, it is quite common and the land office took photos of all persons involved and verified the poa before deal was done. The wealthy in thailand will do plenty of land transactions and I can guarantee they don't go and do the transfers personally in the land office.

They were recently here doing the same with me down in southern Thai, it is a formality as we are not in house books and don't have I'd cards. It means if anything happened they would know who you were and where you came from

No security issues so far and I have been staying here on and off for the last 10 months, spending time between here and my main home.
There are several other Falangs living in similar settings near and no one has had any issues.

This is going to make it very confusing when people say "Near the big Tesco Lotus" when giving directions. We will have to change the term again. We used to be able to just say "Near Tesco Lotus, then The the word "big" was added when all the Tesco Lotus Express's and Tesco Lotus Parks's opened up. Any one else notice that or is it just me?
Can still say near the tesco next to central or next to the bypass (as the bypass is only like 1km long) ..
Umm...the bypass road goes from Thepkesatri rd to Chalong circle. It's 17km's long.
No it doesn't.
The bypass road runs from Thepkesatri road to Central cross-roads.
Chao Fah West road has been in existence for decades before the bypass road was built.
Funny because there are signs on, and pointing towards, Chaoh Fa West that say "bypass". I'll see if I can't find some and take some pics. Perhaps they just mean "towards the bypass" as Thai roadsigns are notorious for being less than accurate. But I still believe Chaoh Fah West (4022) was also a bypass when it was built in the 60's, and I am certain I have heard Thai's refer to as that. I am aware that the section between Tesco and Thepkesatri (402 or Chalermpraikiet Rd) was built much more recently. 2006 if I recall.
Either way, the claim that the Bypass Rd. is 1km is still wrong. It's over 6.
The bypass rd was in place in the early 90s when I came to Phuket. It was dual laned in approximately 2006

I know of two beachfront houses (foreign owned) for rent on Pak duat beach about 40 km south of khanom, they are both fully furnished and on a beautiful beach. If you are interested PM me your details and I will pass the details to the falang (neighbour) who is looking after them whilst the owners are back home.

It depends which local you talk to. Chevron has renewed a port lease in songkla, but suspect they are just keeping their options open until get all the issues sorted out, it will take several years to build after everything gets the green light.Well of what I understand talking to the locals, Chevron is now pulling out.Don't know what will happen to the terminal or infrastructure they have in place.
They might be keeping on some personnel to look after offshore operations I suppose.
Any more info will be welcome.
There has been a lot of protests on this development but when you talk with locals there are organizations turning up and paying uninformed locals to go to protest at meetings, many of the people I have met who live within 5 km of the proposed port are keen for it to go ahead as they see the overt unities for work and money coming into the area.

I am intending to spend a bit of time in the province over the next few months, also looking for places to hang out, have a few beers and enjoy myself. Where I is the so called red light district ( for interests sake only)

I have heard it is worse north towards sichon, small amounts on beach at Pak duat

Why don't you look at khanom, south of surathani, lovely beaches, has a few tourists, all the infrastructure is there but prices still reasonable. You would need your own transport though, there are also more lovely almost deserted beaches south of here, great holiday or retirement destinations.

Hi, went to the Phuket immigration yesterday with copies of everything and letters from bank. Filled out the forms to change from exempt to o visa and then retirement extension of 1 year, but alas my money was in a joint account and although was more than double the 800 required, they don't accept joint accounts. The officer told me to go to the bank, move 800 to my personal account and he would issue o visa, then come back after 60 days and would then give me the 1 year extension.
Went back to the bank yesterday afternoon, transferred money, new letter and back at immigration first thing this morning. Forty five minutes later I am the holder of a 3 month o visa.
So in two months I wil be back to finish the process. But very happy with results so far and thanks for the forums help.

Hi Ubon joe, just wondering why I will need custody of my son, I am his legal father, I personally registered his birth, and his mother and I are still in an ongoing relationship. He has my surname not his mothers.
Would I not be better to go for visa on retirement grounds, I have the required money in bank.

Hi,
I am in Phuket on a 30 day visa exemption. I live in a defacto relationship (18 years, but not registered marriage) and have a 15 year old son ( my name on birth certificate). My visa expires on 30th, am I able to get the visa extension of 60 days or even better would it be possible get conversion to 'o' visa, I can qualify with funds and am also over 50.
I have had several multi o visas before but Perth office now closed. I have been working in a neighboring ASEAN country but contract now complete and I am intending to have an extended holiday with family.
