I have seldom heard much of misbehaving by Israelis outside their home country except for Thailand. In fact, you never seem to hear much at all about Israelis.

    Ridiculous....

They were notoriously badly behaved, everywhere they went. Their government at the time even went as far as to request publicly that they tone it down.

    Run a cursory search...

What a silly response.  It is an excellent idea to ask of one's peers who might have already done this, what the procedures and pitfalls might be or any alternative options.

Just what these boards are for.

    They didn't ask about alternative options. They asked this;

I understand there are deals for 10mbps no limit unlimited/month out there if buying a new SIM?

So question is why do I need a new SIM?

Because it's a new SIM promo.... It's a silly question.

They didn't ask for ways around it, but I provided them anyway.

    What have you provided?

By the looks of it, absolutely nothing.

You would think that to be the case, but the Chinese tours go to Chinese owned establishments.  They don't mind charging their own people higher prices than the Thai's.

Remember, the tour was paid for back in China and included flights, accommodation, land and sea transport, most meals, some activities, and some entrance fees.  It's too late for them to go to a different restaurant because it's cheaper, because they have already paid for the restaurant they are going to in their package.

Of course, the profits from the whole trip remain in China.  Thus, zero baht tourism, but I have said, they create a lot of employment, and we are now seeing how important that is.  I have also admitted there's some profit to suppliers, but the lion's share of the profit are at the point of sale, the package holiday itself, which is Chinese owned and operated.

I don't know from where the imagination of the profits remaining in China comes. I would suggest that it is the opposite.

They would seek to keep the money outside China, with their Thai partners happy to comply.

Sometimes you see 4 together, but unlike some falang (and their teelaks), I don't see big rounds being bought and 8,000 Baht check-bins!????????

On a more serious note, I think there are very wealthy, big-spending Indians holidaying in Thailand. The thing being, because they don't tend to hang out in bars etc, we don't tend to see them. There's probably a lot who stay in high-end resorts (where they remain for their whole visit).

Also, outside the English speaking world, I don't think there's the drinking-culture anyway.

You must live in a bubble.

    Perhaps you mean Caucasian.

  5. What a silly question. Not sure why you even need to ask it, as it won't make any difference to the outcome anyway.

Perhaps direct it to the networks, not here.

If you want to keep the same number, port the SIM to another network or ask DTAC if they can apply it to an existing SIM.

The other option, if the SIM was registered before 1st of March last year, is to add a 90 day 10 Mbps unlimited pack for 1926 baht.

  6. Could be malware changing your settings.

    Try;

    1. Press Windows Key + R then type “inetcpl. cpl” and hit enter to open Internet Properties.
    2. Next, Go to Connections tab and select LAN settings.
    3. Uncheck Use a Proxy Server for your LAN and make sure “Automatically detect settings” is checked.
    4. Click Ok then Apply and reboot your PC.

As of this morning there were a massive 33 cases in Thailand, a country of nearly 70 million. Two people on the entire planet outside of China have died. Get a grip.

Someone posted here earlier, from Sattahip that he was confirmed with Covid 19 and in home isolation. He also stated there were six other cases there.

    He suggests they are under-reporting.

Cannot understand the logic behind extending hours in some bars until 4am. There are already numerous places in Bangkok open until then or even later, and having people spending a few hundred THB on another beer or so isn't exactly going to stimulate the economy.

It means that the bars that pay to stay open until that time, won't need to pay anymore.

It's not a measure for the tourists, but the embattled entertainment venue owners.

Of course that won't stop them having to pay for some other fabricated reason.

Many thanks for your contributions. Having read the replies and also done a little research of my own, I have come to the conclusion that the easiest and cheapest way forward is an android box.

It looks like it will do all the things I want and will also be cheaper than a second-hand PC.

So, just to reiterate, I do not watch streaming TV or live sport, nor am I interested in Netflix or similar. I would continue to download TV programmes of my choice on my main computer and watch them at my leisure.

This looks like a good buy:

    Any opinions?

I have a few questions for those of you that already use android boxes:

I am assuming that I can plug in a hard drive via USB and watch the video content, is this correct?

My monitor only has one connection, so I’m assuming I would need a VGA to HDMI adapter and am also assuming that the cheap ones available on Lazada (around 95 Bht) will do the job, correct?

Also, the Tanix Tx6 doesn’t appear to have an audio output so I’m assuming Bluetooth speakers or headphones would do the job, is this correct?

Once again, I would be extremely grateful for any advice.

You'll need to quote the people who recommended an Android box.

I have to admit that in all of my years coming to Thailand since 2005, never had an issue with an immigration officer, smile, Sawadee Krup, Sabai Dee Mi, they lift their heads, smile and some even have a conversation with me in English, because my Thai is limited.

The above said, I do the same when entering my home country, when called to approach, Gooday, how's it going, head lifts, smiles and conversation starts.

I worked in the public for all of my years, it's all about approach in my opinion and being at the front line can be challenging at times, a little recognition and common courtesy goes a long way, and the day I get a cranky immigration officer will be the day I will find that to be my biggest challenge, albeit I would probably leave him be, step back, let him have his moment, because when someone throws a hot ball at me, I usually catch it and drop it as if to say, I am not playing your game, and smile.

    Lucky you.

hasn't been my experience. i even had the security girl at DMK flirting with me last time i went through the security checkpoint.

im still going with thai elite as I'm in my early 30s and its just easy to get TE and not have to worry about any future potential issues.

Oh please.... when have you ever seen an IO at a Bangkok airport smile. They think they are something special. But in the main, when I see the way that they carry out their duties, it's a surprise that they manage to tie their own shoelaces.

They bang on about damaging the image of Thailand. But fail to see that these goons who abuse their power are doing more to damage the image of Thailand than anything else.

It all depends on whether you choose to use love or fear to command respect. Fear does not command respect, just the veneer.

So we might say nothing and just swallow it.  But....

Why did you bypass Windows 8?

Windows 10 is a lot like Windows 8.  You bypassed Windows 8 to stay with Windows 7, but you criticize people staying on Windows 7 because they don't like Windows 8 and Windows 10.

Making Windows 10 look like Windows 7 is the solution for these millions of people around the world.

Yes, it does. There are some that like Windows 8, but you bypassed it.  Does that mean yo were wrong to do so?  I also bypassed Windows 8.

The early adopters of Windows 10 had a lot of issues.  There was certainly no rush to upgrade when Windows 7 was working perfectly fine.

Yes, I will, and it's not a mess.  The programs are saved, just run them and check some boxes to disable what the Windows 10 feature update re-enabled.

Sorry, but I'm not interested in wasting time discussing a redundant subject.

    I read the first paragraph.

Obviously I bypassed Windows 8 because Windows 7 was still supported.

Now we are with with Windows 10.

I don't have the hoarder's need to cling on to the past.

Reminds me of the hordes of girls trying to look like something else using plastic surgery and ending up looking like something out of Frankenstein's monster.

I just had my second helping of my Isaan-cooked Naga curry, stupidly chucked in a few chilies from the garden whilst warming it up on the hob. I suspect it might wake me up in the middle of the night, thank goodness I have an en-suite bathroom. Taste sensation, though.
