A giant python, measuring 4 meters in length, caused quite a stir in Udon Thani by sneaking into a chicken coop in the middle of the night and devouring three prized fighting cocks. The incident led to a rescue team being called to capture and release the snake back into the wild. Villagers, believing the snake brings good fortune, quickly sought out lucky numbers to try their luck. Udon Thani's Sawang Metta Thammasathan Foundation rescue team received a call on July 27 to capture a large python that had secretly devoured three expensive fighting cocks at house number 106/2 in Ban Khai Senee community, Mueang Udon Thani district. Upon receiving the call, the team quickly assembled their snake-catching equipment and headed to the location. At the scene, the team met Surachai Chinma, the 52-year-old homeowner, who led them to the backyard where he kept his prized fighting cocks. The team discovered a massive python with a visibly swollen belly, resting contentedly. They also found a dead chicken, which they suspected had been killed by the same python. Using their trained expertise, the rescue team carefully extracted the snake from the backyard and measured its size on the road. The python, approximately 4 meters in length and weighing around 20 kilograms, was then placed in a bag for transport to a suitable location for release. Surachai explained that he had already lost two hens previously, initially thinking they were stolen by people but never suspecting a python. At around 12:30 a.m., while sitting inside his house, Surachai heard his chickens clucking in distress. He rushed outside, suspecting a theft, only to find a large python coiled inside the coop. Though his first instinct was to kill the snake, he decided it was simply trying to find food and chose to have it safely relocated. Surachai’s neighbors, upon learning about the incident, gathered to look for lucky numbers, including the house number and other figures, believing the snake’s presence was a sign of good fortune. They plan to use these numbers in upcoming lottery draws. A forensic investigation has contradicted the testimony regarding the murder of a friend disposed of in a pond in Nakhon Sawan province. The suspect had announced the act a month in advance, and the woman involved denied any romantic relationship, asserting there was no love triangle. In the case of a 54 year old Thai man, Rung, who killed 53 year old Yodrak and dumped the body in a pond in Village 4, Don Kha subdistrict, Tha Tako district, Nakhon Sawan province, the motive was believed to be jealousy over the same woman. Before the incident, Yodrak visited Rung’s home and tried to stab him with a knife, leading Rung to defend himself with a wooden stick, resulting in Yodrak’s death. Rung then disposed of the body in the pond. The police investigation team from Tha Tako Police Station, Nakhon Sawan, along with forensic officers, revisited Rung’s house yesterday. The autopsy report indicated Yodrak died from gunshot wounds to the chest, contradicting Rung’s claim of using a wooden stick in self-defence. After about an hour of searching, officers found a long shotgun and a short one along with some shotgun shells hidden 100 metres from the house. The long shotgun was broken and unusable, while the short one was functional, with one shell in the chamber. Further tests will determine if this gun was used to shoot Yodrak. At Don Kha Temple, where Yodrak’s funeral was held, Nun, a relative of the deceased, revealed that the hospital’s examination confirmed Yodrak was killed with a gun, with four pellets found in his chest. Nun believed the shooting was intentional and not in self-defence, as Rung had previously threatened to shoot Yodrak if he ever came to his house uninvited. “The jealousy over the same woman is true, and they had been arguing about it for almost a month. Rung even declared he would shoot Yodrak. Rung and Yodrak met at an ordination ceremony on July 18, where they drank with friends, but Rung did not drink. They then went their separate ways. It’s unclear if Yodrak knew about Rung’s threat, as Yodrak quickly rode his motorbike away after returning home, only to be found dead later.” The woman at the centre of the conflict clarified that there was no romantic relationship with Yodrak and that his jealousy was unfounded. She only communicated with him as a friend, having known him for three to four months and mostly talking on the phone. She had made it clear from the start that she was not interested in a romantic relationship due to their age difference and limited acquaintance. She did not know whether Yodrak was involved with anyone else but was not interested in him as a partner, preferring to remain just friends. Regarding Rung, the woman confirmed never having any private conversations or even possessing his phone number. She met Rung through Yodrak at the ordination ceremony and insisted that Yodrak’s jealousy towards Rung was baseless, as she only interacted with Rung at religious events. The allegations that she had taken money from Yodrak were false, and she was willing to legally challenge these claims since she had never taken any money from him. She supported herself through her small business and was not financially troubled, reported KhaoSod. ORIGINAL STORY: Thai man confesses to killing his friend over love triangle A Thai man confessed to killing his friend and dumping the body in a pond in the central province of Nakhon Sawan after becoming entangled in a bitter love triangle. A 75 year old Thai woman, Prayong, filed a missing person complaint with Thatako Police Station, stating that her 53 year old son, Yodrak, had been missing from home since July 18. Without a clue as to her son’s whereabouts, Prayong consulted a fortune teller who claimed that Yodrak’s body was in a community pond. Prayong decided to seek help from volunteer divers to search for Yodrak in the pond. The divers found the body yesterday, July 25. Yodrak’s body was tied to a cart and a sack of bricks and rocks. His body had begun to decompose at the time of the discovery. Following the questioning of Yodrak’s friends, a 54 year old man named Rung, was the prime suspect. The two were reported to be close friends but recently argued over a conflict as they had fallen in love with the same woman. Rung finally admitted to the murder of his beloved friend. Rung explained that he met Yodrak at his home, located a kilometre away from the pond and engaged in an argument because Yodrak forced him to reveal his feelings for the woman. The argument reportedly escalated into a physical altercation and Rung hit Yodrak’s head with a hard object, which was not identified in the report, until he died. Rung dumped his friend’s body into the pond and closely monitored it. When Yodrak’s body surfaced, Rung repeatedly stabbed the dead body, hoping water would flow into Yodrak’s body and sink. The body continued to float up to the surface, prompting Rung to find heavy objects to add more weight. Police accompanied Rung to the incident scene for a reenactment yesterday. He faces two charges including: Section 288 of the Criminal Law: intentional murder. The punishment is the death penalty, life imprisonment, or imprisonment from 15 to 20 years. Section 366/3 of the Criminal Law: damaging, moving, or depreciating a dead body of another person. The punishment is imprisonment of up to three years, a fine of up to 60,000 baht, or both. Channel 3 and Amarin TV reported that Rung has a mental health illness which may have played an important role in the murder as well. by Puntid Tantivangphaisal Photo courtesy of KhaoSod Source: The Thaiger 2024-07-29 - Cigna offers a variety of health insurance plans designed to meet the minimum requirement for medical treatment coverage, with benefits reaching up to THB 3 million. Thailand PM's Future Hangs in Balance Over Cabinet Appointment Picture courtesy: Travel Daily News Debate is intensifying over the potential ousting of Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin following his controversial decision to appoint Pichit Chuenban, a former convict, as a PM’s Office Minister in the latest Cabinet reshuffle. Debate is intensifying over the potential ousting of Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin following his controversial decision to appoint Pichit Chuenban, a former convict, as a PM’s Office Minister in the latest Cabinet reshuffle. Former senator Wanchai Sornsiri expressed confidence that the Constitutional Court will likely dismiss the case against PM Srettha, pointing out that no court ruling has been made on the specific crime that would prevent Pichit from taking up the ministerial position. Pichit was accused of attempted bribery in 2008 while representing former Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra in a contentious land case. Although he was sentenced to six months in jail, Wanchai clarified that this was for contempt of court, not for attempted bribery. Wanchai also mentioned that the Thai premier had sought the Council of State’s opinion regarding the matter, indicating that the 62-year-old prime minister was committed to adhering to legal procedures. In contrast, former Democrat MP Thepthai Senpong predicted that the Bangkok-born Srettha is likely to be removed from office and replaced by Bhumjaithai leader Anutin Charnvirakul, who enjoys substantial support from conservative factions. “The political circumstances are changing. Most members of the new Senate have good ties with Bhumjaithai. The recent golf date between Anutin and Thaksin at a resort in Nakhon Ratchasima is a sign that a compromise has been reached.” The controversy began when a group of 40 caretaker senators filed a petition with the Constitutional Court in May, demanding PM Srettha’s removal for allegedly violating the constitution by appointing Pichit. They argued that Pichit was unsuitable for a cabinet role due to his 2008 conviction for attempting to bribe Supreme Court officials with a paper bag containing 2 million baht. Pichit resigned from his ministerial position just before the court accepted the petition, a move seen as an effort to shield the Thai PM from legal complications. The Constitutional Court is set to deliver its verdict on the case against PM Srettha tomorrow. Picture courtesy: The Phuket Express In a startling turn of events, a 22-year-old Russian tourist has been arrested in Phuket, Thailand, for allegedly exchanging counterfeit currency. The arrested individual, identified only as Ms Evgeniia, was apprehended by Kamala police officers on the evening of July 27th, following several complaints from unsuspecting victims who had received fake foreign banknotes between July 23rd and July 27th. According to the local police, the investigation had been prompted by reports from various exchange counters around Kamala, Kathu. The tourists who exchanged their money unknowingly believed the banknotes to be genuine. Ms Evgeniia was caught with 32 counterfeit 50-dollar bills while staying at a pool villa in Kamala. During the initial police interrogation, Evgeniia maintained that she was unaware of the counterfeit nature of the banknotes, claiming that her father had given her sixty 50-dollar bills for her trip to Phuket. Records show she exchanged four of these bills at a currency exchange counter in front of a shopping centre in Kamala on July 23rd, receiving 5,348 baht in return without attracting any suspicion at that time. Further scrutiny revealed that out of the 75 total bills in her possession, 32 were counterfeit, while the remainder were genuine. If the counterfeit notes had been successfully exchanged, they would have resulted in a loss of approximately 57,000 baht. Ms Evgeniia and her friends had travelled from Moscow to Phuket via Shanghai on July 22 and were residing at a rented pool villa in Kamala. Evgeniia now faces serious charges, including importing counterfeit banknotes into the kingdom, possessing counterfeit banknotes with intent to use, and violating customs regulations. Local authorities are digging deeper to ascertain if this incident is connected to a broader international counterfeit currency ring targeting tourist-laden locales, reported The Phuket Express. This episode highlights ongoing concerns about the vulnerabilities of currency exchange mechanisms in popular tourist destinations and underscores the need for increased vigilance and more stringent checks. -- 2024-07-29 - Cigna offers a variety of health insurance plans designed to meet the minimum requirement for medical treatment coverage, with benefits reaching up to THB 3 million. Thailand experienced a significant surge in tourism, welcoming 20 million foreign tourists in the first seven months of the year, marking about half of the pre-Covid-19 levels. Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin announced on X, formerly Twitter, that from January 1 to July 25, more than 20 million international visitors arrived in Thailand, reflecting a 34% increase from last year. Acknowledging the efforts behind this growth, he expressed gratitude to all parties and sectors involved in implementing measures such as visa-free travel, increased flights, the creation of an aviation hub, and enhancements to tourist attractions. Tourism from Taiwan and India reached unprecedented levels, largely credited to the visa-free scheme. This initiative allows visitors from 93 countries to stay in Thailand for up to 60 days without a visa. Initiated late last year, the scheme has been extended until November 11 and stands as a cornerstone of the government’s tourism strategy. The Thai premier attributed the robust tourism growth to collaborative efforts. “Now, the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) is preparing activities to attract tourists from different countries every month. I would like the tourism sector to get ready as Thailand’s big door has opened today.” Foreign tourists Despite the progress, the Tourism and Sports Ministry reported that the forecasted 35 million visitors generating 3 trillion baht (US$83 billion) in revenue for the year is still below the 2019 figures when the country earned 1.91 trillion baht (US$53 billion) with 40 million tourists. Ministry data revealed that between January 1 and July 25, Thailand welcomed 20,001,405 visitors. The majority came from mainland China (3,994,343), followed by Malaysia (2,784,598), India (1,170,419), South Korea (1,053,077), Russia (987,861), Laos (714,564), Taiwan (610,270), Vietnam (597,695), and the United States (575,268). For long-haul arrivals, Russia led the list, followed by the US, the United Kingdom (539,884), Germany (481,733), and France (420,446). Siripakorn Cheawsamoot, TAT Deputy Governor for Europe, Africa, the Middle East, and the Americas, highlighted a positive outlook for the long-haul market. The TAT anticipates that the number of long-haul visitors and the resulting revenue will surpass 2019 levels. Efforts to attract European tourists in the second half of the year are in full swing, with the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris presenting an opportunity to draw French visitors, reported Bangkok Post. Siripakorn mentioned that TAT’s Paris office collaborated with Carrefour Voyages, a French tour company, to promote package trips to Thailand from May 20 to June 16. These packages ranged in price from 1,469 euros to 1,849 euros (US$1,600 to US$2,010). Additionally, TAT has partnered with Malaysian tour companies to promote a scenic journey from Kuala Lumpur to Hat Yai aboard the Special Charter Sawasdee Train. This promotional trip is scheduled for today and tomorrow. by Bright Choomanee Picture courtesy of Evan Krause, Unsplash Source: The Thaiger 2024-07-29 - Cigna offers a variety of health insurance plans designed to meet the minimum requirement for medical treatment coverage, with benefits reaching up to THB 3 million. A Thai man has been rescued and hospitalised after enduring two years of severe abuse and torture at the hands of his employers, a husband and wife, due to his inability to meet their sales targets. The 38 year old Thai man, Kong, was accompanied by social media activist Guntouch Pongpaiboonwet, also known as Gun Jompalang, when he filed a police report in Non Thai district, Nakhon Ratchasima yesterday. Visible injuries covered Kong’s body, with his buttocks severely infected from welts, whip marks on his legs, and open wounds on his head. He also lost a tooth during one of the assaults. Police documented the injuries with photographs as evidence. Kong recounted that he met the couple over a decade ago in his hometown of Chiang Mai before moving to Nakhon Ratchasima to work for them. Initially, everything was normal, and he received his salary regularly. However, the situation deteriorated over the past two years. Kong claimed that his salary had ceased, and his ATM card was confiscated by his employer under the pretext of preventing wasteful spending. His employers began to blame him for failing to meet sales targets and started punishing him physically. The specifics of the business or its products were not disclosed by Guntouch. Kong was provided with only one meal a day, typically plain rice, if he failed to make a sale. He reported being whipped over 1,000 times and subjected to electric shocks on his abdomen and genitals. When Kong lost consciousness from the beatings, they would revive him to continue the abuse. Despite contemplating escape multiple times, Kong feared for his family’s safety, as his employers threatened to seize his house and land. Police Lieutenant Colonel Tawat Boonkaeha, the deputy inspector of the Non Thai Police Station, stated that the couple will be summoned to acknowledge the charges, reported Bangkok Post. by Puntid Tantivangphaisal Photo courtesy of Bangkok Post Source: The Thaiger 2024-07-27 - Cigna offers a variety of health insurance plans designed to meet the minimum requirement for medical treatment coverage, with benefits reaching up to THB 3 million. Picture courtesy; The Pattaya News In a shocking incident in Khon Kaen, Thailand, three American Bully dogs fatally mauled a 70-year-old man, Mr. Lek Sipak, on the night of July 24th. The tragedy struck in a small village situated in Phu Wiang District, sending ripples of grief and shock through the community. Mr. Lek had just finished collecting payment for frogs he had sold to a neighbour when the attack occurred. His son, Prasert, who was working in Chonburi at the time, rushed home immediately upon hearing the dire news, only to be informed, half an hour later, of his father’s untimely death. Local officials and the sub-district head, Sutthirak Duangtanoy, paid a visit to the grieving family and the site of the attack. They met with the dog owners, a local teacher named Mr. Sakon, 49, and his wife, Mrs. Saowanee, 46. Officials stressed the importance of managing aggressive pets and implementing precautionary measures such as visible warning signs and secure enclosures around the property. Mrs. Saowanee guided Thai reporters through the scene, marking the spot where the attack happened near their home’s 1.5-metre-high iron gate. The tragedy unfolded while she was out shopping, and upon her return, she found the dogs attacking Mr. Lek, who was still alive but severely injured. Struggling to control the dogs, she eventually managed to secure them and called for medical assistance, but sadly, it was too late, reported The Pattaya News. Mrs. Saowanee stated that her dogs had never bitten anyone before and speculated that the victim might have opened the gate himself. Expressing remorse, she offered to assist with funeral expenses. The family accepted the gesture, deciding not to press charges in exchange for compensation. In a final turn, the bereaved family agreed to give the dogs away to a professional trainer who would take over their care. This tragic event has left the village grappling with sorrow and the pressing issue of pet safety. -- 2024-07-27 - Cigna offers a variety of health insurance plans designed to meet the minimum requirement for medical treatment coverage, with benefits reaching up to THB 3 million.
