The incident took place on the night of 21 July and involved the perpetrators, who were identified as the ex-boyfriends of one of the victims. The attack unfolded at the home shared by Wassana, 25, her boyfriend Dream, and her older sister Salaiporn. Reports indicate that the attackers, 29-year-old Nueang and 31-year-old Mui, initially came over to drink alcohol with the occupants. However, the evening took a violent turn when the two men suddenly armed themselves with knives and assaulted Dream, cutting his left ear. The situation intensified when the electricity went out, further plunging the scene into chaos. Wassana intervened in an attempt to protect her boyfriend, only to suffer a stab wound to her chest. Salaiporn, trying to bring light to the situation with her mobile phone's torch, found her sister seriously injured and immediately called for medical assistance. The victims were swiftly transported to Cha-am Hospital, where Wassana was initially reported to be in critical condition. Later updates confirmed that she was out of danger. Dream and Salaiporn sustained less severe injuries, with Dream having a cut to his ear and Salaiporn suffering a cut to her arm. Authorities are actively searching for Nueang and Mui, who managed to escape amid the confusion. They remain at large as law enforcement officers continue their efforts to apprehend them. The police are seeking any information from the public that might lead to the capture of the two suspects. This violent incident has sent shockwaves through the local community, highlighting the extreme consequences of unresolved personal grievances. 12. Chinese billboard ad. Picture courtesy: Daily News In an unexpected turn of events, another large Chinese-language billboard has emerged, this time in Prachinburi, drawing significant public attention. This follows the recent removal of a similar controversial advertisement in Bangkok’s Huai Khwang area. The new advertisement, located at Rojana Industrial Estate, extends job opportunities in Thailand to workers from Myanmar, Cambodia, Laos, and Vietnam. Shortly after the billboard's existence became public knowledge, officials swiftly took it down. The quick action did not, however, dampen public outcry, particularly from concerned Thai nationals. Thai social media platforms buzzed with a flurry of comments. One user expressed concern that such trends could eventually lead to fewer job opportunities for Thai citizens. Another netizen pointed out the prevalence of similar billboards in Rayong, questioning why authorities had yet to take action there. Others lamented the increasing presence of Chinese influence in the country, emphasizing the challenge faced by unemployed locals. On the heels of this development, Immigration Police have ramped up their investigation into the previously displayed Chinese-language billboard at Huai Khwang intersection. The billboard controversially advertised the sale of passports from various countries, including Indonesia, Vanuatu, Cambodia, and Turkey, with prices ranging from 30,000 to 150,000 baht. Police have interrogated a Chinese national, Ms. Nasu, linked to the previous billboard. According to a local news outlet, Ms. Nasu revealed that a Hong Kong-based company had reached out to her through Chinese messaging platforms, offering 150,000 baht per month for the advertising space and 60,000 baht to create the billboard. Ms. Nasu's fee for facilitating the billboard was approximately 17,000 baht. However, she declined to disclose the name of the Hong Kong entity. Currently, police have charged her with working in Thailand without the necessary permit. As the authorities continue to crack down on unauthorised and potentially deceptive advertisements, the broader implications for Thailand's employment landscape and foreign influence remain a topic of public debate. -- 2024-07-24 - Cigna offers a range of plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment up to THB 3m. 14. Representational Image In a shocking incident in Thailand's Ayutthaya province, a teenage boy and local residents lynched a drug addict following an attempted rape. Police from Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya Police Station responded to the scene, discovering Yuranan's lifeless body on the second floor of the house. Yuranan, a known drug addict, was found with his arms and legs bound by rope, and his body marked with multiple wounds and bruises. The 17-year-old teenager, who ultimately confessed to the attack, detailed his harrowing experience. He recounted that Yuranan, who lived nearby, broke into his house during the night and charged into his mother’s bedroom. Hearing his mother's desperate screams, he rushed to her defence. Enraged by what he witnessed, the teenager admitted to kicking Yuranan in the neck and punching him repeatedly. He then sought help from neighbouring residents, who joined in subduing Yuranan. Police reports highlight Yuranan's history of similar criminal acts linked to his drug addiction. His body has been sent to the Pathum Thani Provincial Institute of Forensic Medicine for an autopsy to confirm the exact cause of death. The teenager now faces charges of assault resulting in death. However, given that he did not attempt to flee the scene, he has been temporarily released. Authorities have also summoned other locals who participated in the lynching for further questioning. Under Section 290 of the Thai Criminal Law, the teenager could face imprisonment ranging from three to 15 years for his actions. However, given his age and the circumstances, there may be adjustments to his legal consequences. This critical incident has sparked a heated discussion on community safety and justice in the face of immediate danger. -- 2024-07-24 - Cigna offers a range of plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment up to THB 3m. 19. Thai man kills 2 month old baby girl after failing to rape her mother by Petch Petpailin Photo via Matichon and Amarin TV A Thai man killed a two month old baby in a rage by throwing the infant to the ground after he failed to rape the child’s mother at her home in the northern province of Chiang Rai. Officers from Wiang Kaen Police Station arrested the 40 year old alleged murderer, Lee Saeyang, at his home, which was located opposite the victim’s residence in the Wiang Kaen district of Chiang Rai province on Sunday, July 21. His arrest followed the murder of the two month old baby girl named Linlada and the attempted rape of Linlada’s mother, 20 year old Chanikarn. Linlada bore a severe wound to her head due to Lee’s cruel attack. Chanikan recounted the incident to the police, stating that she was drying clothes outside her home when Lee approached and asked to have sex with her. When she refused Lee tried to force her, threatening to kill her daughter if she continued to resist. Chanikarn refused again, prompting Lee to rush inside her home, grab the baby’s legs, and throw her to the ground instantly killing the child. Lee then fled to his home, located opposite Chanikarn’s residence. During the interrogation, Lee confessed to the brutal murder and attempted rape. Lee explained that he was alone and had feelings for Chanikarn for a long time. He decided to approach her on the day of the incident because her husband was not home. Lee allegedly confessed that he threatened to kill the baby if Chanikarn denied him sex and reportedly admitted to carrying out his threat. Chanikarn told the police that she tried to stop Lee but later submitted and agreed to have sex but he grabbed her daughter and killed her. Chanikarn said she could not accept what had happened. Her baby had just begun to smile and was so adorable. Officers planned a reenactment at the scene but later cancelled it because more than 200 locals in the area were waiting for Lee there. The police were worried that Lee would be lynched. Lee was charged with intentional murder. The punishment is the death penalty, life imprisonment, or imprisonment from 15 to 20 years according to Section 288 of the Criminal Law. 20. Thailand braces for heavy rain amid monsoon and storm warnings by Bob Scott The Meteorological Department of Thailand (TMD) warned residents and holidaymakers to brace themselves for heavy rain over the next ten days, highlighting periods of reduced rainfall and times when heavy downpours are expected. 21. The Meteorological Department of Thailand (TMD) warned residents and holidaymakers to brace themselves for heavy rain over the next ten days, highlighting periods of reduced rainfall and times when heavy downpours are expected. A strong monsoon and a tropical storm on the horizon necessitate vigilance and monitoring. The TMD updated its daily cumulative rainfall forecast (every 24 hours: from 7am to 7am the next day) and wind levels at 925hPa (750 metres) for the next ten days, from today, July 23 to August 1. Analysis was conducted using data from the European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts (ECMWF) model. Red shading indicates heavy rain, while green indicates light rain. From July 23 to 27, heavy rain and its distribution will slightly decrease, with some areas still experiencing rain. Specifically, in the monsoon-affected regions of Ranong, Phang Nga, Phuket, Chanthaburi, and Trat, heavy rain may persist in certain areas. Caution is advised due to the accumulated rainfall from consecutive days of precipitation. The moderate-strength monsoon remains a significant factor contributing to the rainfall. Between July 28 and August 1, rainfall will increase again due to the strengthening monsoon and the presence of a low-pressure system over northern Thailand. This will lead to heavy rainfall in the northern and upper northeastern regions, requiring close monitoring. The rainy season necessitates staying updated with weather forecasts from the TMD. A tropical storm named Gaemi, which has intensified into a typhoon, is currently moving northwestward in the western Pacific Ocean from today till July 26. Simultaneously, another tropical storm called Prapiroon is moving northwestwards in the Gulf of Tonkin, towards northern Vietnam, and is expected to gradually weaken. Despite these developments, neither storm is predicted to directly impact Thailand. In the upper Andaman Sea, a strong low-pressure system is present, leading to strong winds and waves in the upper Andaman Sea and the South China Sea. Caution is advised in these areas. This information serves as a guideline for weather monitoring and should be supplemented with data from other meteorological observations, as it is subject to change with new input. by Bob Scott Source: The Thaiger] 2024-07-23 - Cigna offers a range of plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment up to THB 3m. 25. Chinese man dies after falling off baht bus in Pattaya (video) by Petch Petpailin Photo via Matichon A Thai baht bus driver in Pattaya denied any knowledge of an accident in which a Chinese man fell from his vehicle and later died. Locals in Pattaya condemned the baht bus driver, later identified as Thongchai Thonglueng, for his alleged cruel behaviour after he left the 48 year old Chinese man, Chi Fai Lam, lying in a pool of blood on Pattaya Sai 2 Road on the morning of July 22. Witnesses rushed the Chinese national to hospital but he succumbed to his injuries. Security camera footage showed the Chinese man falling from the dark blue baht bus but the driver sped away without checking on him. The vehicle’s registration plate was identified as 10-6324, and the driver was later identified to be Thongchai. Thongchai was summoned to Mueang Pattaya Police Station for questioning that afternoon. He insisted that he was unaware his passenger fell from his vehicle. Thongchai explained that he picked up seven to eight passengers from the Dolphin Roundabout and dropped them off at Pattaya Walking Street. He checked the passengers in his rear-view mirror and saw that no one remained. He claimed he did not know when the Chinese man boarded his vehicle or when he fell off. A witness, 56 year old motorcycle rider Sriprai, told Matichon that many people shouted at the baht bus, asking the driver to stop but he ignored them and sped away. Police did not reveal the next steps in their investigation and did not clarify what legal action would be taken against Thongchai. A similar accident was reported in the Isaan province of Udon Thani in April when a 76 year old Vietnamese woman fell out of a tuk tuk and later died in hospital. The Thai tuk tuk driver also claimed he was unaware that his passenger fell from the vehicle, only realising the accident had occurred when he reached the passenger’s destination. In a related report, a foreign man narrowly escaped death in May when he was hit by a bus while cycling on Pattaya Sai 2 Road. The bus driver did not stop to check on the foreign cyclist and there was no report on whether he was called in for questioning or legal action.
