  2. PM wants to see safe Loy Krathong celebrations by Tanakorn Sangiam BANGKOK (NNT) - The Prime Minister has asked organizers of Loy Krathong events to ensure the safety of event participants, in wake of the Halloween crowd crush in Seoul, South Korea. Prime Minister Gen Prayut Chan-o-cha ordered related agencies to inspect the structural integrity of piers and pontoons where Loy Krathong events will be taking place, and to appropriately warn eventgoers about any potential risks. Event organizers should have in place staff members on-site to assist the general public and provide help in case of accidents. Many provinces have banned the use of fireworks and firecrackers at Loy Krathong events this year for safety reasons. The Prime Minister asked everyone to strictly comply with these regulations, which include the ban on sky lanterns, rockets, and fireworks in areas near airports. The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration said it will be deploying city hall staff at piers to ensure safety and assist the general public. For safety reasons, the maximum capacity of people on each pontoon will be limited to 1 person per 1 square meter. The city will patrol the Chao Phraya River to ensure public safety throughout the festival. It encourages the general public to report cases of accidents or request emergency assistance by calling the 199 or 1555 hotlines, both available 24 hours a day. 8. Land for foreign high flyers plan to be axed by cabinet as new 10-year visa draws mild response by Joseph O' Connor It was reported on Monday that General Prawit Wongsuwan played a decisive role in a move to withdraw the controversial residential land ownership for foreigners regulation from consideration before the cabinet after it was approved in principle on October 25th Minister of the Interior General Anupong argues that there are other options for foreigners seeking to acquire property in Thailand and that the new 10-year Long Term Visa proposal is already an attractive proposition for investors and wealthy people across the globe seeking a better lifestyle. General Prawit Wongsuwan intervened on Monday to withdraw the controversial plan to allow foreigners to buy residential land in Thailand. It is understood that an application will be made on Tuesday by the Minister of the Interior General Anupong Paochinda to withdraw the regulation agreed in principle by the cabinet on October 25th last. It comes as the minister responsible for the plan and the accompanying 10 year Long Term Visa proposal, Deputy Prime Minister and Economics Czar Supattanapong Punmeechaow, has revealed a disappointing response to the scheme since it went live in September and has accepted that its goals might have to be addressed given stiff competition, particularly from Indonesia.
