  6. By Adam Judd Pattaya, Thailand-For the first time in three years Pattaya will celebrate a normal Halloween, traditionally one of the busiest party nights of the year in the tourism reliant city. However, due to COVID-19 restrictions and border closures the past several years Halloween was a muted affair. Indeed, last year bars and nightlife venues were mandated shut and alcohol banned at restaurants. In 2020, venues were open but strict zero covid border closures limited foreign tourism to almost zero. Venues also had to adhere to various strict COVID-19 measures. This year, however, basically all restrictions and border controls are gone, entertainment venues are open and it seems nearly every one in Pattaya is having a Halloween party. 20. Picture: Thai Rath Pol Gen Surachate Hakpan - Big Joke - flew into Prakhonchai district via helicopter last night to join local investigators in drawing a line under the death of a 23 year old local man earlier this month. Relatives thought it was murder, but the police said it was suicide. Thanathat or "Nam" Chankae had arrived back from abroad but just days later he was found burnt in Salaeng Ton School, reported Thai Rath. Surachate put the details into what his underlings had managed to discover. Thanathat came back from Germany on the 7th. He had been there with his mother for 3 years. He went to Pattaya. Then he went to his wife's house on the 9th when the incident took place. He was seen absent mindedly walking around the area. He was seen holding what appeared to be a bottle of gasoline after going to a coin-op gas dispenser. He was covered in burns, said medics, yet had not a single other injury. They deemed suffocation as the cause of death and believed that the victim had self-immolated in a seated position. He had a long history of manic depression and needed medication for his mental health issues. He was also having jealous arguments with his wife and was involved in other family disputes. The decision was that Thanathat took his own life. The family have refused to cremate his remains as the case was not resolved but they are now planning on a cremation in the next 2/3 days. The wife of the deceased expressed dissatisfaction at being portrayed as a major reason for her husband's death. The case has been widely discussed in Thailand and other details can be found here. -- © Copyright ASEAN NOW 2022-10-29 - Cigna offers a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment, including COVID-19, up to THB 3m.
