By Jintana Panyaarvudh Wichaya Dataroon left his hometown at age 15 to hunt for a job so he could earn money to pay off his long-overdue tuition fees. Paying up was necessary; only then would he get the certificate proving that he had completed Mathayom 3 level in school. However his young age meant he was unable to land a job. Just as he was sinking into despair, he got a call from Chanon Preechachan, a member of Friends of Youth of Surat Thani. Funded by the Equitable Education Fund (EEF), Chanon had started an occupation development project to provide support and help for underprivileged children like Wichaya. “My life has changed since I joined the project,” Wichaya recounts. Picture: Siam Rath It's been a tough time for the Royal Thai Police recently who have been featured in stories murdering children (the ex cop who took his own life), shooting noodle vendors and engaging in corruption. Now comes some better press. One Facebook user said that a traffic cop in the Bukkhalo police jurisdiction was "very lovely". He had picked up a broom to sweep the road fearing that motorcycles could skid on loose stones. She started her own hashtag that translated as #there are lots of good police. Comment was rife and the incident reached the ears of the RTP spokesman Pol Maj-Gen Achayon Kraithong at RTP HQ who revealed that the cop concerned was Pol Capt Poonsak Samphankan, reported Siam Rath. Picture: Daily News Debris had been left on the road from recent flooding and Poonsak had been proactive in preventing accidents, something noted by the chief of police Pol Gen Damrongsak Kittipraphat. Poonsak has been in the news before. He once helped a motorist who had a seizure and received an award last month at a top cop ceremony. He is also in line for a further award as a top traffic cop before his upcoming retirement. Meanwhile in Nonthaburi on the outskirts of Bangkok, Daily News reported on the sterling efforts of yet another "man in khaki", as the Thai press refer to their police. This one was helping a downed motorcyclist and other people stricken in floodwaters. -- © Copyright ASEAN NOW 2022-10-15 - Cigna offers a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment, including COVID-19, up to THB 3m. Source: Freepik by Pandaily According to data from the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers, in January through August of this year, China exported 1.817 million cars, up 53% year-on-year. Among them, the export volume of new energy vehicles (NEVs) reached 593,000, exceeding the amount delivered in the entire year of 2021 and accounting for 31% overall. The international competitiveness of Chinese NEV enterprises has been continuously strengthened. Moreover, with the increasingly clear momentum of industrial chain transfers to Southeast Asia, Chinese firms are also aiming at this emerging regional market that is home to nearly 700 million people, with Thailand as the first stop. According to Chinese media outlet LT, there are more than ten Chinese electric vehicle brands that have entered the Thai new energy vehicle market, and SAIC MG, which has a relatively weak presence in China, has won first place. In 2019, it launched its first electric vehicle, the MG ZS, in Thailand, later launching the MG EP. The two models accounted for over 90% of the sales of electric vehicles in Thailand, and their strength can not be underestimated. Picture: Thai Rath Dash cam footage from the front and rear of a vehicle was posted on the Facebook page of an engineer, reported Thai Rath yesterday. It showed a pick-up pull out to overtake then lose control as it passed. It ended up in the klong. It happened on Thursday morning in Phanat Nikhom, Chonburi in eastern Thailand. Anusorn, 38, said he was on his way to work. He had earlier posted: "Drive carefully, don't be impatient". He said that he looked in his rear view mirror and the other driver appeared frustrated that he was going slowly. He revved up to pass but lost control on the potholed road. Anusorn said that he stopped to render assistance but there were plenty of other people on the scene who were repairing the klong so he left. Chonnawee, 27, said that he jumped into the water with a backhoe driver to rescue the motorist who was uninjured. They opened the door to free him and then watched as the pick-up sank beneath the water. The driver called insurance and arranged for a flat bed truck to take away the damaged vehicle for repairs. -- © Copyright ASEAN NOW 2022-10-15 - Cigna offers a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment, including COVID-19, up to THB 3m. Picture: Thai Rath A distraught mother has called for the death penalty for a cruel Thai man who tortured her only daughter to death in Nonthaburi. Thanadech Kaewchuang - known as "Ai Rut" in the Thai media - was arrested in Phatthalung in the south earlier this week after he fled the Bangkok area, reported Thai Rath. When police arrested him he was with another woman who was seriously injured from repeated attacks. She was also met via a Dating App site leading to the moniker of Dating App Killer. Other victims were expected. Found dead earlier was 26 year old Kamonnet Lamun from Amnat Charoen who met Rut a month ago online. She was found in a rented room by Bang Yi Khan police with a fractured skull, fractured spine and broken ribs. Similar injuries were found on the woman who he was holding against her will in Phatthalung. Kamonnet's mother Bunthin Lamun, 59, spoke to the press as a funeral was being prepared in Muang district of Amnat Charoen. "He should be shot by firing squad or beaten to death," she said wanting her daughter's killer to suffer like she had. She said that her daughter had gone to work in Bangkok and had two children from a previous relationship. Everything appeared fine in the first few days of their relationship with the daughter saying that Rut was looking after her. But then contact became difficult and Rut claimed that her daughter had been seriously injured in a robbery. She had to borrow money to help them move and sold a necklace to get money to her daughter. Finally Rut told the mother that she was ill then dead in Sirirat Hospital. When the mother asked to see her daughter's face Rut rang off and all contact ceased. -- © Copyright ASEAN NOW 2022-10-15 - Cigna offers a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment, including COVID-19, up to THB 3m. Mr Putin said he did not regret the invasion, although the current situation was "not pleasant" IMAGE SOURCE: EPA Russian President Vladimir Putin has said there is no need for more massive strikes on Ukraine, days after the heaviest bombardment of the country since the war began. He said most designated targets of the strikes had been hit, adding that it was not his aim to destroy Ukraine. Moscow's goal of mobilising 300,000 men would be met within two weeks, he said. Mr Putin's words come as Russian forces seem stalled and Ukraine advances, almost eight months since the invasion.
