The “Great Resignation” is the biggest trend in the employment market resulting from COVID-19, for Western countries at least. For Thailand and others in this region, however, while resignation certainly and frequently crosses people’s minds, they just don’t put it into action. This is according to the latest survey published recently by headhunting company, Robert Walters. The company conducted the survey in 6 countries, with around 2,600 respondents at the middle management level, and 1,100 companies in Thailand, Singapore, Malaysia, the Philippines, Vietnam, and Indonesia. The findings are interesting. 78% of the respondents admitted that they want to quit their jobs, but still, most people stay put. Thailand has one of the largest percentages, only second to Malaysia. 80% of people surveyed in Thailand want to quit their jobs. Only half of them take any action though. They also say they are ready to change their mind if employers are ready to work with them. “Half of the 80% that want to quit say they haven’t taken any action. They also say they can change their mind if the situation in their workplace changes or employers provide them with something that matches their needs. Thai Rath reported that Thailand's so called cyber cops had arrested 13 people including two Taiwanese nationals who were running a call center scam. They raided a property as part of the "Clipping the Dragon's Wings" action. This followed a complaint received online in July from someone who believe a tale that they were mixed up in illegal activity. They transferred nearly 7 million baht after it appeared they were named in an arrest warrant. The "official" on the other end of the line claimed they wanted to check whether that money had been legally obtained. Other victims mean that the total stolen by the gang is 200 million baht. Eleven other Thais were arrested for their roles in the scam such as opening accounts. Electronic equipment including computers and phones with damning evidence was seized. -- © Copyright ASEAN NOW 2022-10-12 - Cigna offers a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment, including COVID-19, up to THB 3m. Picture: Thai Rath There were further developments yesterday in the baffling+ case of a 23 year old Thai man just back from Germany who was found burned and dead in a school in the Prakhonchai police jurisdiction. Thanathat or "Nam'' was found in the grounds of Salaeng Ton school. Thai Rath said that next to the body was a melted plastic bottle, the lid of a tea drink and a lighter. Forensics teams were checking for DNA evidence on the pump handle of a coin-operated gasoline dispensing device. A witness called Sampao, 56, told police that she was sitting with many other people at a T-junction when she saw the victim walking towards the gas pump. He then walked off clutching a bottle to his chest. She thought nothing of it at the time and added that Nam is not from round there. He married into the community and nobody knows much about him or what happened. Picture: Thai Rath The media said that Nam is a drug addict in rehab. He was suffering from depression. Police think the most likely answer to the riddle of the case is that Thanathat took his own life. Though they have not ruled out murder. Yesterday ASEAN NOW reported from the Thai media that the victim had a forehead injury. This was not mentioned in the Thai Rath story. In a latest twist the poster boy cop of the RTP and recently upgraded to general, Surachate Hakpan was expected in Buriram today. The cop universally known as Big Joke often flies in when local investigators are in trouble. Investigations continue. -- © Copyright ASEAN NOW 2022-10-12 - Cigna offers a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment, including COVID-19, up to THB 3m.
