  9. By Thai Newsroom Reporters AS MANY AS 50 MPs are largely expected to go party-hopping by no later than January in pursuit of chances of being reelected, forecast former election commissioner Somchai Srisutthiyakorn Friday (Oct 14). Some 40 to 50 MPs are believed to leave their respective parties during the very early part of next year to contest under the tickets of other camps where their chances of being reelected would be relatively high, said Somchai who currently performs as head of the Thai Liberal Party’s policy steering committee. Somchai stopped short of naming names among those MPs who might probably defect, mostly from the largest coalition Palang Pracharath Party, amidst reported fears of being defeated in the next general election, speculated early next year, if they opted to stay put. 17. Picture: Sanook Police, rescue services and park officials rushed to the scene after a 72 year old man was gored by the tusks of a large elephant outside his home near the Pa Ngam market in Chachoengsao, central/east Thailand. A grisly scene greeted Sanamchai Khet police. Phaitoon had been gored in the abdomen and his intestines were flowing out. He also had a broken left thigh bone. His wife Praneet, 64, said that her husband had awoken at 5 am and went to sit outside, part of his normal daily routine. She went back to sleep. She was awoken by the sound of the chair that he used for sitting on the porch being dragged. Then she heard an elephant trumpet three times. There was no hope when she found her husband. He said nothing and died. Her grandson managed to run away behind the house. It emerged that a group of people by the side of the road had been waiting to give alms to monks when the elephant appeared and chased them. It then turned its attention to the old man who couldn't get away in time. Officials at the scene found the elephant's footprints to have a radius of 49-50 cms meaning that it was a very big creature probably 6 tons and fully grown, reported Sanook. -- © Copyright ASEAN NOW 2022-10-14 - Cigna offers a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment, including COVID-19, up to THB 3m. 25. Picture: Siam Rath An inquiry was instigated after a clip on Line was shared. It featured a senior officer from the number 43 force of the border patrol police in Songkhla, southern Thailand, holding a junior officer's head to the ground in a restaurant. The junior officer had his hands pinned behind his back, reported Siam Rath. Social media users thought this was police brutality, albeit against one of their own. Border Patrol #43 chief Pol Col Yongsak Ratandilok na Phuket responded by saying that his officer was drunk and boasted about it on Line. Later it emerged from the wider inquiry that the incident occurred during a dinner in a private room out of view of the public. There were senior and junior drugs suppression police present. One junior officer had talked about his ambitions for promotion and was giving it the large one about his physical prowess. The older members of the gathering who had been through it all before suggested this and that but the younger officer persisted with his wrongful claims about how to do things like detain suspects. He was then shown how. It was all a misunderstanding on behalf of the public. Though the officer concerned has been warned about his behavior and social media activity. -- © Copyright ASEAN NOW 2022-10-14 - Cigna offers a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment, including COVID-19, up to THB 3m.
