Relevant agencies are now considering tourism promotion measures that would attract travelers to the Kingdom for the rest of the year. The current target is to realize 10 million foreign tourist arrivals in 2022. Prime Minister’s Office Spokesperson Anucha Burapachaisri said more than 4 million foreign tourists have entered Thailand this year. This figure is expected to rise to 4.5 million within this month. The top 5 origin countries of tourists entering Thailand are, in respective order, Malaysia, India, Laos, Singapore, and the United Kingdom. Mr. Anucha said the government has been employing various measures in keeping with global developments as well as the domestic situation. These efforts are aimed at stimulating and reviving the tourism industry and related industries. At the same time, public health measures have been carefully implemented. by Namo Vananupong BANGKOK (NNT) - A new study from Chulalongkorn University indicates similarly immune responses between half and full dosage of mRNA vaccines, when given as boosters after inactivated jabs. The study also finds a similar level of protection in people receiving different types of vaccines, compared to those receiving the same jabs. In a Facebook post, Dr. Yong Poovorawan, head of the Center of Excellence in Clinical Virology at the Faculty of Medicine, Chulalongkorn University, said the levels of immune response between people receiving half and full dosage of either Pfizer or Moderna’s COVID-19 vaccine are similarly high. This study, which has been published in the Vaccine journal, specifically looks at the immune response between different dosages of mRNA vaccines as boosters for people who have received Sinovac jabs as their two primary doses. The vaccines used in this study are the original versions targeting the wild-type SARS-CoV-2 virus. According to Dr. Yong, people who have received inactivated vaccines can elicit a similar level of immune response when boosted with vaccines from other platforms compared to those who have received only one type of vaccine. The study also finds a similar trajectory of waning immunity, regardless of their mRNA booster dosage. The use of half dosage mRNA vaccine as a booster has been a standard practice around the world for Moderna’s jab, where the dosage is reduced from 100 to 50 micrograms when given after the second dose. The meeting focused on ways to rearrange advertising signs that belonged to nightlife places without obstructing their businesses while also providing proper access to fire engines and their crews so that they could enter the area in time in the event of a fire. The forward command centers of the National Water Command will also perform the task of relaying relevant information to the public. Deputy Prime Minister Gen. Prawit Wongsuwon has chaired a National Water Command (NWC) joint meeting with relevant agencies at Government House. In his capacity as NWC director, Gen. Prawit ordered relevant agencies to follow up on the situation during the current rainy season. The amount of rainfall is expected to be greater than usual and floods may occur in some areas. Therefore, relevant agencies have been told to strictly implement measures that have been devised so floods may be mitigated. The NWC meeting endorsed the structure and operational model of NWC forward commands that would enable fast and effective operations. The work of the forward commands is being split into 3 categories. The first, the administrative category, involves analysis of information, assessment of situations, and issuance of warnings. Work in this category also includes making reports and providing suggestions to a forward command director. The second category has to do with operations and response, as well as coordination of manpower, equipment, and plans for flood prevention and mitigation. The third category is labeled “support” and involves communications and public relations and the use of systems available from flood-related agencies. Gen. Prawit told those at the meeting to proceed with setting up forward commands in the Northern, Central, Northeastern and Southern regions. He said special attention is currently needed over the water situation in the Northern, Central, and Northeastern regions. On top of the NWC meeting, Gen. Prawit also presided over a remote meeting of the subcommittee for the administration of water resources. The subcommittee considered adjusting the water discharge rate at Chao Phraya dam. The meeting resolved the discharge rate might be increased as necessary to prepare the dam for water influx during periods of heavy rains. Acting Prime Minister Gen Prawit Wongsuwan, serving as chair of the Meeting of the Strategic Committee on Development of the Southern Border Provinces, welcomed a visit from Malaysia’s Senior Minister of the Infrastructure Development Cluster and Minister of Works Fadillah Yusof, for a discussion regarding the developments of Thailand’s southern border provinces. The meeting comprised talks on border trade promotion in Narathiwat province’s Tak Bai and Su-ngai Kolok districts, Sadao district of Songkhla province, and the city district of Satun province; in line with the area’s trade and tourism development targets. Key infrastructure development projects were also on the table at this meeting, including the construction of Kolok river bridges in Tak Bai and Su-ngai Kolok, road construction linking the new Sadao customs checkpoint and Malaysia’s Bukit Kayu Hitam checkpoint, and a study for a new corridor between Satun and Malaysia’s Perlis state. Both sides have agreed to drive forward development campaigns along Thailand-Malaysia borders, for the mutual benefits of both countries. This meeting is considered one of the first duties Gen Prawit Wongsuwan has taken as the acting Prime Minister, following the Constitutional Court’s order to suspend Gen Prayut Chan-o-cha from office. About 60 students ran from their Pathumwan Institute of Technology towards about 50 students from Rajamangala University of Technology Tawan-ok's Uthenthawai Campus who rushed down from the elevated Skywalk over Pathumwan intersection. They met on the ground in front of Nimibutr building in the compound of the National Stadium and first exchanged verbal attacks and challenges. Then they started a fight. Police were deployed at the scene but could not prevent the brawl. The 2022 daily minimum wage is set to be increased by 5.02%, tentatively from October 1st, pending final deliberation by the cabinet. This would raise the average to 337 baht, according to Permanent Secretary for the Ministry of Labour Boonchob Suttamanaswong yesterday (Friday). He added that the wage committee took into account several factors, including employers, employees and the purchasing power in the country, which is expected to increase. The daily minimum wage varies by province. With adjustments, the highest minimum daily wage of 354 baht will apply in Chonburi, Rayong and Phuket. The lowest, of 328 baht, will apply in Yala, Pattani, Narathiwat, Nan and Udon Thani, with 353 baht in Bangkok, Nonthaburi, Nakhon Pathom, Pathum Thani, Samut Prakan and Samut Sakhon.
