  1. Picture: Thai Rath Thai Rath reported that "luck ran out" for a Chiang Rai man who was hit by a train carrying TPI cement in Saraburi, central Thailand. Muang Saraburi police were called to the tracks in the area of Tessaban 2 Road, Soi 11. They found the victim with horrendous head and body injuries. He had a black wallet containing 90 baht, five old lottery tickets, and Thai ID indicating he was 53 year old Mekhawan from Chiang Rai. In a pocket of his pants they found an inhaler with one Ya Ba tablet concealed inside. He also had a tube for inhaling drugs with him. The #605 train from Saraburi to Lamphun was stopped 50 meters away. Driver Somchai, 56, said he had seen the man who appeared suddenly. He sounded his horn and applied the brakes but was too close to stop in time. It is thought that the man was living locally and crossed the tracks frequently to go to the shops. Investigations continue. Thai Rath described the man's injuries in grisly detail and referred to the train as an "iron horse", notes ASEAN NOW. -- © Copyright ASEAN NOW 2022-07-08 - Cigna offers a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment, including COVID-19, up to THB 3m. 11. The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA), along with Thai film associations, is organising an outdoor cinema festival throughout the month of July, in hopes of boosting the local economy, especially at night. Named “Krung Thep Klang Plaeng” (Bangkok Open Air Cinema) the event opened last night (Thursday) at Lan Khon Mueang Town Square. The first movie to be screened was the 1997 Thai film “Dang Bireley’s and Young Gangsters” set in the 1950’s. While the event organisers told reporters that there was no political agenda behind the choice of movie, it highlights a way of life in Bangkok in the old days, back when the capital was called “Phra Nakhon” and when Thai teens were starting to be influenced by Western culture. 17. by Tarin Angskul BANGKOK (NNT) - Residents in Bangkok are being encouraged to help separate waste for reuse and recycling in order to reduce the capital city’s expenditure on waste management. According to reports, the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) spent more than 10 billion baht on garbage disposal while spending only 6 billion baht on public health and 4 billion baht on education. During a recent meeting with a panel overseeing waste management issues, Bangkok Governor Chadchart Sittipunt stated that the BMA will implement waste management policies while improving its waste transportation system. Officials will encourage residents and the private sector to work together to separate dry and wet waste before reusing and recycling the remaining dry waste. The BMA’s Environment Department will also provide waste disposal guidelines to local communities and schools in order to encourage local communities to reduce garbage output. Meanwhile, authorities will also address complaints such as foul odors emanating from garbage disposal sites. The Bangkok Governor stated that officials must monitor the city’s waste collection because it is a major environmental problem that affects people’s quality of life. The Bangkok governor also emphasized the importance of dispelling the narrative that the BMA dumped its waste in one location, which made residents reluctant to separate waste for reuse and recycling. -- © Copyright NNT 2022-07-08 - Cigna offers a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment, including COVID-19, up to THB 3m. 23. Picture: Thai Rath Thai Rath reported that Pol Capt Paradorn Phengkhot of the Bang Bo police in Samut Prakan was called after a 22 years old foreign motorcyclist was killed after coming out of ABAC university. A security guard said that he saw the foreigner exit the uni at speed and fly off a bridge and hit a footpath. He had a broken left leg and a broken neck and was lying in a pool of blood when Ruam Katanyu Rescue and the police and medics arrived. He had been riding a GPX motorcycle the front of which was damaged. It had Lampang plates. There were marks on the road for 50 meters. Paradorn said that the rider was clearly going very fast and was probably unfamiliar with the road. Thai Rath in their headline and body of their story suggested that the French man had "thrown his life away" through unfamiliarity with the Thai roads. Motorcyclists make up 70-80% of Thai road fatalities that are thought to be around 25,000 annually. Deaths at the scene have been about 14-15,000 in the last few years. Many others die on the way to and in hospitals. In this case the embassy and then relatives were informed by the Thai police. -- © Copyright ASEAN NOW 2022-07-08 - Cigna offers a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment, including COVID-19, up to THB 3m.
