In the latest of several thefts from the mobile phone retailer Banana, a total of 1.9 million baht's worth of goods comprising 128 items went missing from a store in Nakhon Nayok, central Thailand. Khamas admitted to robbing three Banana stores in his Y-fronts. He said it suited him and he was confident in his abilities. He would case the joints for 3-6 hours before dressing down for the thefts. In addition he admitted to liking bananas and the color yellow. He said that in his thefts he would only sell some phones to make money for himself. Others he would give away to poor people who didn't have phones. He likened himself to Robin Hood, stealing from the rich to give to the poor. This came about because when he was a kid he didn't have a phone of his own and felt deprived. Nine cases throughout Thailand are part of the charges against the underwear phone thief. Government Spokesman Thanakorn Wangboonkongchana said yesterday (Tuesday) that this extension applies to both documented and undocumented migrant workers, but they are required to apply for an extension of stay. He said that documented workers, whose work permits are due to expire on February 13th next year, are divided into two groups, estimated at about 1.69 million people. The driver of a rescue ambulance in the north west of Thailand went on Facebook with a post about nine rules for the spirit world that he has put on the back of his vehicle. Spirits are warned not to annoy the living, not lean out of the ambulance or travel on the roof, don't mess with younger spirits and especially don't put the driver or staff off their duties. They were also told to get off at destinations and #9 always try to give the correct three numbers for the lottery. It closed at 35.63 at the end of the trading session on the first day of this month, according to Kasikorn Research Center. The many swings of the baht Since the 1997 Asian financial crisis, the baht has gone through four key cycles. To follow the bailout conditions set by the International Monetary Fund, Thailand, languishing in one of the worst economic crises in its history, on July 2, 1997, abandoned its fixed exchange rate policy of pegging the baht at 25 to a US dollar, as the central bank’s reserves were drained defending the currency against speculators. Once the Bank of Thailand (BOT) opted for the floating rate, the currency experienced a free fall. The baht plunged to a historic low of 56.50 per dollar on January 12, 1998. This, however, enabled an export recovery and tourist influx, which in turn swung the baht’s fortunes around. Later the baht became very strong, and was even dubbed “super baht”, as a booming tourism industry brought in about 40 million tourists annually before the COVID pandemic struck the country in early 2020. In the middle of 2019, the baht had strengthened to 27-28 against the dollar.
