Siam Rath reported on an ongoing case of burglary in Samut Prakan. In a latest twist a large amount of Buddhist statues and amulets have been returned - in a taxi! Mrs Nawarat Bunsathit, 50, originally went to the police with CCTV evidence that showed four men arrive in a Toyota Corolla at her house in Soi Asawanon 6/2 in Bang Muang sub-district. The burglars stole a large amount of religious artefacts plus silverware and other items. This happened on Sunday 19th June. Police investigations led to a house in Bang Khae, Rama 2 area, where they found the Corolla three days ago. But the burglars had disappeared. Pressure was put on the relatives of the thieves to give themselves up. But in a twist on Sunday at 9.30 pm a neighbor called Nawarat to say that a taxi had just arrived and delivered three large plastic containers of stuff and left it outside her house. CCTV showed the taxi arriving but no registration plate could be identified. Most of the items had been returned but some of the choicest pieces were still missing. Narawat has been helping police with the inventory. In total the items stolen - including 300 amulets and a host of Buddhist images - was valued at 90,000 baht. Police are in the process of applying for arrest warrants. Mongkhon Thopwan, 54, of North End Road, Kensington, was sentenced on Friday after being convicted on March 21 for five counts of assault by penetration, and one count of causing a person to engage in sexual activity without their consent, following a six-day trial. The court heard from two independent victims that Thopwan had on two separate occasions, seven months apart, abused his position of trust as a masseur by sexually assaulting them. He thought that his granddaughter was still inside the house with his wife but she had obviously followed him out, reported Daily News. The child's father said that his father doted on the child and that it was a terrible accident. He wanted the incident to serve as a reminder to other parents about what could happen. He said that his daughter could already walk well. The family were devastated but not apportioning any blame. Pol Capt Weerapong Aphaiwong of the Bang Plee police in Samut Prakan was called for back-up after an off duty airport police patrolman had trouble with a drunk taxi driver. Pol Lance corporal Pongphan Phonchai told how he had seen a yellow and green taxi emerge from a soi as he was going home from duty at the airport. The taxi was weaving all over the place on the Thepparit Road so he ordered it to stop. But it drove on before Pongphan caught up with it at a bus stop outside the Huachiew Chalermprakiet University. There the driver - 39 year old Charoensak Bunchuay - tried to assault the officer and went into his motorcycle knocking it over in an attempt to flee. All this was caught on the officer's vehicle cam. Pongphan called for backup. Charoensak was clearly very drunk and his eyes were all glazed indicating that he had been smoking marijuana, reported Thai Rath. Inside the cab on a seat and in the driver's side pocket were found bottles of the Korean rice spirit Soju. Also in the side pocket was a bong. Picture: Thai Rath Charoensak was still belligerent and resisiting, daring the officers to test him for alcohol. They did and the reading was 184 mg - well over the legal limit. His parting shot before he was taken away was to call out to female traders in the area that he was being persecuted. Picture: Thai Rath Deputy chief of the metropolitan police and spokesman Pol Maj-Gen Jirasan Kaewsaeng-ek gave details following a shooting incident in and around a pub in the Chalong Krung police jurisdiction in Lat Krabang at the weekend. A man has been charged with weapons offences and the pub has been closed temporarily as investigations into others involved continues. At the center of the case were arguments between two groups over a woman. Police were initially called to the pub at around 1.30 am on Sunday morning and found evidence of 10 shots fired from a 9 mm gun. CCTV had been posted on social media. A man called Nathee started shooting in the pub before fleeing. Two people were injured. At 9pm Sunday Nathee surrendered to police and handed in a Glock 19. The gun was legally registered but not to Nathee. Police charged him with several weapons offences. He claimed he only shot to threaten the other group. The pub - which was not named in the Thai Rath story - was ordered shut temporarily for serving alcohol after the 12 pm threshold. Investigations continue as to who else might have been involved in the fracas. They also reportedly criticized Pattaya city officials for going too far by erecting barricades on the beach, claiming that it would confuse tourists. Following this concern, Pattaya mayor Poramese Ngampichese personally visited Na Jomtien Beach today, June 28th, to arrange a press conference. By Goongnang Suksawat Phuket – Multiple news outlets have reported an estimated 100 foreigners in Phuket have allegedly been defrauded by a visa agency. Facebook page ‘Help Crime Victim Club’ posted earlier this week that a visa agent in Phuket did not properly do their job after receiving money and passports from foreigners to extend their visas under various programs. Many affected foreigner visas are now in an overstay status as a result. Phuket City police also believe some victims have not come forward out of fear of their visa status and estimated the total number of victims at around 100 people. Many of those affected are reportedly individuals who had regularly used this particular agent previously to extend their visas and stamps throughout the pandemic, with many claiming to be “stuck” in Thailand during the Covid-19 period. However, recently this particular agent has left many people without their visas and passports for up to three months and is unresponsive to clients, leading dozens of foreign nationals to file police reports and ask for assistance from their respective embassies.
