Photo from Thammanat Prompow Facebook Thammanat Prompow has become a party leader for the first time in his career — a crowning success for any politician. However, analysts say his recent rise to head the Thai Economic Party is unlikely to benefit this powerbroker, who is more used to working underground than under the limelight. For them, Thammanat’s latest career move has only a slim chance of impacting Thai politics ahead of the upcoming censure debate against the government. The no-confidence debate, expected to take place next month, will target Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha and nine other key Cabinet members, according to the opposition. This will be the last such debate during this Parliament, which completes its four-year term in March next year. Thammanat, previously the ruling Palang Pracharath Party’s secretary-general, has been at odds with Prayut ever since he was ousted from the Cabinet after allegedly engineering a plot to topple the PM at the previous censure debate last September. Managing the controversial Skytrain Green Line shrewdly, bogged down as it is by controversies over high fares, court battle over debt and extension of concession, is going to be a major test for newly elected Bangkok Governor Chadchart Sittipunt. The high fares of mass transit services in Bangkok have been largely blamed for lower and lower-middle-income groups having only limited access to the facilities. Not only consumers, but even academics have for long complained about the fares. Before the 2019 general election, politicians had promised lower fares and better services, but so far, the coalition government led by PM General Prayut Chan-o-cha has not delivered on its promise. The district chief and a local tourism official want the couple prosecuted. Netizens were finding it funny but the officials contacted police for activities that stained the name of the popular area. Sanook reported that three clips of about 4 minutes each were entitled "Wang Nam Khiaw Siaw" - siaw means sexy or toothsome in this context. District chief Suphot Saenmee became aware of the clips and demanded action from the local police chief Pol Col Pheerapong Thanaphochai who was on the case trying to find out the details. The couple could face jail terms of 3 years and/or a fine of 60,000 baht under some legislation and even worse - 5 years and 100K - for breaking computer crime rules. Sanook Thai Caption: (He) returned home after the murder Sanook reported on the continuing movements of a Thai man who is suspected of killing a Thai couple in Taiwan. The suspect is now on the run with Thai police on the case; he returned to his father's home in Chiang Mai, said a brief hello to his children, then abruptly left in his father's Volvo. The Thai media reported that Taiwanese media said that Santi or Yang, 35, murdered the man and the woman - who was five months pregnant with twins - then stuffed them in the boot of their white BMWX4, drove away from a house and left them in a western suburb of Taipei by a high speed railway station. They had met at a house to discuss a business conflict concerning money but argued. The couple had multiple blunt force trauma injuries. CCTV showed the woman still alive last Wednesday then the BMW being parked at 4.50 am next day. From there Santi went to the airport where he boarded Starlux flight JX741 to Suvarnabhumi arriving in Bangkok at 12.44 pm. Picture: Sanook Reporters went to the suspect's father's home in a well known housing estate in Nong Jom, Sansai, Chiang Mai where his father, elder sister, brother in law and two children reside. The brother in law said that he arrived at 6 pm Thursday in a van from Chiang Mai airport. He said hello and mentioned missing his kids. He didn't appear stressed or say anything else. He soon left in his father's Volvo without saying where he was headed. Only after that did they hear what had happened in Taiwan. His father has lived in the house for 20 years and the brother in law said he didn't know much about the suspect. -- © Copyright ASEAN NOW 2022-06-14 - Cigna offers a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment, including COVID-19, up to THB 3m. This is the fourth time that Austin has been in Asia since he took the job, and it is the first time that he has made an official visit to Thailand. America appears keen to tell its allies in the East that it is not going anywhere. Austin was in Singapore over the weekend, for the Shangri-La Dialogue, where he attended the conference as US cabinet member for the first time. His keynote speech created waves when he said that the US sees growing coercion from Beijing and is “witnessing a steady increase in provocative and destabilizing military activity near Taiwan”. Thailand looks at easing visa rules in bid to boost tourism

Visa free for all put forward by industry meeting hosted by Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) by Carla Boonkong & Pranee O' Connor Governor of the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) Yuthasak Supasorn hosted a meeting of foreign tourism industry representatives on Friday at which a wide range of plans was approved to be put to the government as a way to boost the inward flow of foreign tourists in the last half of the year as Thailand banks on the recovery of the industry to drive economic growth in 2022. The plans involved extending the visa-on-arrival scheme to all countries with the trade still recommending the retention of vaccine and health status certification as part of the entry process. The proposals from the meeting which ranged from declaring Thailand mask-free outdoors to eliminating temperature checks on arrival, come as the kingdom’s foreign tourism numbers appear to be climbing with some industry insiders suggesting the tourism authority’s target of 8 million visitors this year may be surpassed and a figure of up to 15 million seen by the end of 2022. However, a fly in the ointment may still be the proposed retention of a requirement to show the health status of arrivals and medical cover which will still leave the kingdom at a disadvantage to its competitors and would probably lead to more difficulties than retaining the Thailand Pass application. On Friday, the Governor of the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) Yuthasak Supasorn appeared to endorse a range of proposals including the extension of the visa on arrival concession to all countries, a waiver of all visa fees for 6 months from July 1st and an extension of the stay on tourist visas for incoming travellers, from 30 to 45 days. The meeting also endorsed an earlier call from the Minister of Tourism and Sports Phiphat Ratchakitprakarn for the abolition of the Thailand Pass application although it appeared to accept the need still for tourists to show proof of vaccination or health status before entering the kingdom and to have confirmed medical health insurance. The proposal to grant a visa free for all is, however, bound to face scrutiny from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs which in August 2019 opposed a similar move for both India and China at cabinet which ultimately saw it scrapped and replaced with visa fee waivers.
