The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) has the full authority over the troubled Green Line train project, better known as the BTS system, including the controversial operating concession, fares and debts incurred in the construction of the system, according to Interior Minister Anupong Paochinda. After meeting newly-elected Bangkok Governor Chadchart Sittipunt yesterday (Monday), Gen Anupong said that he is confident that Chadchart will be able to solve problems related to the train system without the need to seek cabinet approval. by Paul Rujopakarn BANGKOK (NNT) - Relevant units are being urged to consider utilizing new innovations, including metaverse technology, to promote tourism in Thailand. The recommendation was made during Thailand Tourism Congress 2022 in Phuket, where the prime minister delivered a keynote address on sustainably enhancing the quality of Thai tourism. Prime Minister Gen Prayut Chan-o-cha described tourism as the main revenue engine for Thailand. In addition to the metaverse, he called on those responsible for promoting tourism to look into the use of Augmented Reality (AR) and blockchain technology. He also said it should be possible to attract new travelers to Thailand using virtual reality, similar to South Korea’s plan to launch “Metaverse Seoul” as part of its Seoul Vision 2020. This would establish Seoul as the world’s first capital to be represented in the metaverse. Gen Prayut noted that Bangkok could become the second. Keep up to date with all things Thailand - Join our daily ASEAN NOW Thailand Newsletter - Click to subscribe Additionally, the premier said his administration was ready to listen to tourism-related proposals from Phuket’s private sector. These will then be compiled into a white paper and submitted to the government at the end of the congress. Phuket Tourist Association (PTA) President Bhummikit Ruktaengam meanwhile proposed that the administration amend certain laws to better accommodate tourists. These would include laws requiring travelers to fill out unnecessary documents, with the aim of replacing them with more convenient online applications. -- © Copyright NNT 2022-06-07 - Cigna offers a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment, including COVID-19, up to THB 3m. Crocs everywhere in Chachoengsao - price plummets meaning farms don't bother to catch escapees Picture: 77kaoded 77kaoded went to the Saochangoke area of Bang Khla district in Chachoengsao province where they interviewed a local kamnan about the number of escaped crocodiles in the area. Picture: 77kaoded 77kaoded went to the Saochangoke area of Bang Khla district in Chachoengsao province where they interviewed a local kamnan about the number of escaped crocodiles in the area. What they found out was rather scary. This followed the capture of one crocodile who bit a 64 year old woman while she was fishing for prawns. Picture: 77kaoded There are plenty more crocodiles where that came from; in fact there is the potential for thousands since the price of crocodiles plummeted and farm owners don't bother to round up animals that escape. Pramuk Rojanatan or Kamnan Gae of Sao Changoke is a well known owner of a boxing camp in the area. He said the one that bit the woman most likely came from a crocodile farm of which there are many in the area. Lots of farms have ceased their businesses because of very low prices. A two meter croc once valued at 100,000 baht is now worth just 500 baht so when they escape no one bothers to catch them. When the price was in the 10,000's of baht range they cared, now they don't. Keep up to date with all things Thailand - Join our daily ASEAN NOW Thailand Newsletter - Click to subscribe Picture: 77kaoded He called the situation worrying. When they escape from the farms they are easy to round up at first because they don't know how to swim properly and they tend to bask on the land. Teams can go out at night and catch the reflection of their eyes in lamps. But once they learn how to swim, that's when the problems really start. They are much harder to catch. Asked by the media if they were being deliberately let go by the farms he believed this was not the case. But he said some farms have 1,000s of crocs even 10,000s. They pile up next to fences one on top of each other making it easy for the ones on top to escape. He had made efforts to contact the fisheries department to address the issue. Picture: 77kaoded But it was getting worse, especially in the rainy season as the banks of the Bang Pakong river burst and water enters adjacent farms meaning many crocs escape that way too. Ten were captured recently and taken to a facility in Nakhon Sawan. The main reason behind the fall in the price is that most crocodiles were exported but the quality is lacking and foreign buyers are no longer interested in the skins of Thai crocs. He said that apart from his area there are loads of other crocodile farms in the province that lies to the east of the Thai capital Bangkok. The media said in their headline that the situation was worrying having heard what the kamnan had to say. -- © Copyright ASEAN NOW 2022-06-07 - Cigna offers a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment, including COVID-19, up to THB 3m. Naew Na Thai Caption: What a collision! 3 vehicles at a crossroads near the governor's office The drivers of two vehicles and the passenger in a third all said their lights were on green after an accident near the governor's offices in downtown Udon Thani yesterday. A caucasian foreigner driving a pick-up ended up in a "miracle" escape as his vehicle overturned. Another driver praised his amulets. Muang Udon traffic police at the scene found a smashed up Nissan Almera, a Toyota and a Mitsubishi Triton on its roof, reported Naew Na. Keep up to date with all things Thailand - Join our daily ASEAN NOW Thailand Newsletter - Click to subscribe Picture: Naew Na Nawara Saengkham said she was with her "chao farang" husband who was driving the Triton. They'd just left home and were going to a department store. She said the lights were green for them and her husband wasn't going fast. She saw the Toyota either going straight or turning and there was a collision. She wasn't exaclty sure how they ended up overturned but claimed it was a miracle they were not badly hurt. They had managed to clamber out. Kittinan Rattanathip was with a couple of family members in the Nissan. He'd just been to the department store and was heading for the land office. Picture: Naew Na "My light was on green," he said, "I went into the other two vehicles that had collided". He said he was saved from serious injury by his seatbelt and the two amulets he wore around his neck and hung in the car. Naew Na went into some detail as to what kind of amulets they were. The driver of the Toyota, Pratheuang Klinkhlai said his light was green. There was no damage to state property. Police are looking at CCTV in the hope that it might provide the key to solving the riddle. Sanook Thai Caption: Nearly gets a kicking! Scenes of utter chaos broke out at a reenactment of the rape and murder of two teens in Phetchaburi, south/central Thailand yesterday. A video - link here - showed police barely able to control angry people in Nong Chumphon sub-district of Kao Yoi. Sanook reported that Nai Chert Srijoon, 53, was nearly lynched. Women were hurling expletives as people tried to stop a police van that hurriedly took the suspect away from the violent encounter. Nai Chert was arrested in Chanthaburi in Thailand's east after being on the run for 14 years. Keep up to date with all things Thailand - Join our daily ASEAN NOW Thailand Newsletter - Click to subscribe Picture: Sanook Back in 2008 he raped and murdered a 13 year old girl and murdered a 16 year old girl. The first victim was strangled and tossed in some water while the second, contacted a short while after, was raped then also strangled and thrown in undergrowth by the side of a road. Both victims were known to the offender. He said that after the crimes he went to hide in Klong Toei, then Lopburi and finally Chanthaburi from where he hailed. He did various jobs never using his Thai ID number so that he could evade capture. The violent and angry scenes took place at a third reenactment spot. Wanchai, the father of the 16 year old - holding his murdered daughter's picture - and relatives managed to break through a police cordon and try to attack the murderer. The reenactment - a common feature of Thai cases - had to be abandoned at this point. Several years ago an RTP chief called for reenactments to stop but they continue to this day with the media always in attendance for high profile ones, notes ASEAN NOW. -- © Copyright ASEAN NOW 2022-06-07 - Cigna offers a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment, including COVID-19, up to THB 3m.
