TAT Newsroom Bangkok, 1 April, 2022 – The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) is delighted to report that the just released 2022 edition of ‘Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants’ features no less than nine restaurants in Thailand, including four in the top 10 rankings. As a country, Thailand has the second most entries on the prestigious list, after Japan with 11 entries and ahead of Singapore with seven entries. Mr. Yuthasak Supasorn, TAT Governor, said, “The inclusion of nine restaurants in Thailand among the 50 best in Asia is an impressive achievement indeed, and it is representative of the fantastic quality and diversity of the cuisine sector throughout the country. It also fits perfectly with the promotion of Thai cuisine as a key element of TAT’s ‘Visit Thailand Year 2022: Amazing New Chapters’ campaign.” The list of Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants 2022 was revealed on 29 March at three simultaneous events bringing together chefs, restaurateurs, industry VIPs, and media in Bangkok, Macau, and Tokyo. Keep up to date with all things Thailand - Join our daily ASEAN NOW Thailand Newsletter - Click to subscribe The top-placed of the Thai restaurants is Sorn on Bangkok’s Sukhumvit Soi 26, which secured the No. 2 spot in the list of 50 restaurants around the Asian region with its “unmatched Southern Thai food with impeccable service.” The other three Thai restaurants in the top 10 are Le Du in 4th place, Sühring in 7th, and Nusara in 10th; all of them in Bangkok. Four Thai restaurants also marked their debut on the 50 best list – Blue by Alain Ducasse in 25th place, Sushi Masato in 29th, Samrub Samrub Thai in 31st, and Raan Jay Fai in 46th. All are in Bangkok, as is Gaa, which placed 33rd on the list. The earlier announced 51-100 rankings of Asia’s restaurants also included Thailand entries. Bangkok’s Baan Tepa and Quince retained their appearance, earning the 86th and 91st spots, respectively, while Phuket’s one Michelin-starred Pru debuted in 61st place, and Lerdtip Wang Hin debuted in 87th place. Friday’s cases bring the total number of COVID-19 infections in Thailand to 3,656,726 with 25,222 deaths. The news comes as the updated measures for entering the Kingdom of Thailand have been announced and made official in the Royal Gazette, Thailand’s legal bulletin, starting on April 1st. Travelers are no longer required to provide a negative RT-PCR test within 72 hours of departure. However, the RT-PCR test requirement for the on-arrival date remains unchanged. Travelers must have a fully paid hotel reservation confirmation for the arrival date which must include an RT-PCR test, ATK test kit, and airport pick-up. Every year they promise that this will be the last year of Thais disregarding the DUI laws. Every year they have a new gimmick, a new target tweaked to help with getting a better percentage. Every year they concoct some post-Songkran improvement. Some reason not to lose face. Every year they then go back to doing what they did before the holidays. But every year the figures speak for themselves - they are, along with ignoring road traffic issues for most of the rest of the 50 weeks of the year, a national disgrace. File photo So what is the difference this year with the latest pronouncement published from the RTP by Thai Rath yesterday. Nothing. The headlines say "this year we mean it". "This year we intend to get it fixed". "This year the people will see the difference". "This year beware - the RTP mean business". Oh yes we do! In order to achieve traffic flow on a a macro scale they have that gimmick - two in fact in the guise of what the RTP rather loosely call their masterplans. In this scheme 217 kms of roads across ten provinces will see the road direction changed at whim. Masterplan 2 is banning ten wheel trucks and bigger from some routes in seven provinces on certain days. Top policemen have consulted for days, maybe even weeks, to come up with those.But it's not all. What about the DUI crackdown? Yes, this is serious this year. Very serious. So serious in fact that everyone involved in an accident from next Monday will be tested for alcohol. This will continue throughout the traditional Thai New Year. Also there will be a crackdown on youth drinking. Underage children who have got drunk will see vendors who sold them liquour prosecuted. And parents will face sanction under child laws. Things are expected to get going from the 8th with the busiest times 12th and 13th April. Also 13th-15th are public holidays. 6.7 million people are expected to leave and enter the Thai capital Bangkok.
