  3. Sanook Thai Caption: He went in the wrong house and took on the wrong woman Daily News reported on what happened in the Klaeng police jurisdiction in Rayong, eastern Thailand yesterday. They were called after getting a report from a Phu Yai Ban (village official) called Samran about a drunk and disorderly 60 year old man. They found the man paralytic in the front garden of Kanyanuch's house - she is Samran's daughter. The drunk said to the cops: "Hey this is my house" Police: "Er, no it's not and she is not your wife either". The drunk was taken to his pick-up loaded with wood to calm down while his real wife was called. Apparently he had arrived while Kanyanuch was going out to the local market. He had promptly taken off his pants (trousers) and tried to grab the lady believing her to be his wife. She sought sanctuary in her car and called out to her dad, the PYB, and phoned her husband while the police were contacted. No charges were made. The cops resolved the matter by giving the old drunk some advice about his drinking and asking his wife to make sure he didn't get up to any more mischief. Saturday’s cases bring the total number of COVID-19 infections in Thailand to 3,004,814 with 23,176 deaths. The news comes as the Public Health Ministry warns that new COVID-19 caseloads can reach 50,000-100,000 on April 19 unless people strictly protect themselves from infection. Dr Sophon Iamsirithaworn, deputy director-general of the Department of Disease Control under the Public Health Ministry, said new COVID-19 cases in Thailand were rising like in other countries including South Korea and Vietnam, each of which logged about 100,000 new cases a day, because of the highly contagious Omicron variant. *TNA contributed to this report Discover Cigna’s range of health insurance solutions created for expats and local nationals living in Thailand - click to view -- © Copyright ASEAN NOW 2022-03-05 - Aetna offers a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment, including COVID-19, up to THB 3m. 13. Leading Pattaya business and tourism associations push government to end early closing times, allow some Songkran relaxations, and legally reopen bars and nightlife By Adam Judd Pattaya, Thailand - Yesterday, March 4th, 2022, two prominent business and tourism association leaders spoke with local Pattaya media to express their opinions on what was still holding back tourism and hospitality in the local area. 14. By Adam Judd Pattaya, Thailand - Yesterday, March 4th, 2022, two prominent business and tourism association leaders spoke with local Pattaya media to express their opinions on what was still holding back tourism and hospitality in the local area. Mr. Provt Saekoo, President of the Eastern Thai Hotels Association, stated that the hotel association believed that to recover tourism, especially domestic, the Thai Center for Cvid-19 Situation Administration, or CCSA, would need to give the “green light” to tourism activities and events being allowed for Songkran, the water festival, in April, the Thai new year and generally the biggest holiday of the year for Thais. The President stated that members understood that “cases” of Covid-19 remained high in Banglamung and Pattaya, however, data from the Chonburi Ministry of Public Health showed that currently, 99.2 percent of almost 27,500 cases were mild or asymptomatic. 0.72 percent of cases had “moderate” but manageable symptoms and only 11 cases had been considered truly serious, with pneumonia or on a ventilator. Deaths remained very low and nearly all had pre-existing conditions or were extremely elderly. Additionally, according to Chonburi Public Health, the province remains the highest vaccinated province in Thailand, and Pattaya specifically, according to the mayor, Sonthaya Khunplume, was over 90% vaccinated, based on place of residence. Chonburi also has ample hospital capacity and resources. As a result, the President hoped the CCSA would allow “some” Songkran activities, even if water fights were not allowed. This could include street festivals on Beach Road with vendors, shows, concerts, parades, shopping, food, and religious and cultural activities for the whole family. 16. Big brewers maintain monopoly as smaller operations incur huge fines for even sharing photos of their beer Rebecca Ratcliffe and Navaon Siradapuvadol in Bangkok Naamcial’s craft beers often have distinctly Thai flavours, as he experiments with the country’s native produce, boiling the pulp of jackfruit and mango to mix into different creations. Yet his homemade products are forbidden in the kingdom. Talking to the Guardian under a pseudonym, Naamcial says he would like to operate a legal brewery, but Thailand’s laws around alcohol production make this ambition almost impossible for newcomers. Current laws restrict brewing licences to manufacturers that have capital of 10 million baht (£230,000), while brewpubs must produce at least 100,000 litres a year and only serve their beer on their premises. The legislation effectively blocks new, small breweries from opening, and tips the market firmly in favour of two powerful companies – Thai Beverage, which produces Chang beer, and Boon Rawd Brewery, which produces Singha and Leo. Attempting to loosen these companies’ grip on the Thai beer market, an MP for the opposition Move Forward party, Taopiphop Limjittrakorn, has proposed a new draft law on excise tax, which is under consideration by the Thai cabinet, and which he hopes will make the market accessible to smaller producers. At the same time, the insecurity caused by the war will impact world travel and tourism as well as consumer confidence at home. This week, Mr Sanan Angubolkul, the Chairman of the Thai Chamber of Commerce said he expects this war to last for some time bringing with it rising energy costs and disruption to world trade caused by economic sanctions. This is worrying for the kingdom which reached the edges of its economic limits last year before the reopening of the country to foreign tourism on November 1st last. The Prime Minister chaired an advisory council meeting on Wednesday at which the rising headwinds to the country’s economic recovery were discussed. Chief among them was concern over the war in Ukraine which threatens to impede worldwide economic activity as world energy prices soar to unsustainable levels. At the same time, the Bank of Thailand has said it is reviewing its projections for inflation in Thailand but for now, insists that they will be still in the 1% to 3% range for this year. Prime Minister Prayuth Chan ocha has ordered plans drawn up to ease the hardship on Thailand’s most vulnerable families, particularly with regard to electricity costs and directed his economic team’s efforts towards fighting the crippling problem of household debt in the country. BANGKOK, (TNA) – Six countries standing along the Mekong River join forces to cope with the impacts of fluctuating discharges in the river, according to the Office of the National Water Resources. ONWR deputy secretary-general Chayan Muangsong said that China raised the discharge rate of the Jinghong Dam on the river on March 1 and consequently the level of the river surged. China kept changing the discharge rate and downstream countries had to always monitor the level of the river closely, he said. The downstream countries informed China of their concern and asked it to set a clear pattern of the discharge rates. Previously China kept answering that changes in the river did not result from it alone, he said.
