  2. An Australian man is taking legal action against his Thai ex-wife after she reportedly had an affair with a Danish man and swindled his money. The accused Thai woman, on the other hand, is also seeking justice, claiming the Thai police sided with her ex-husband and treated her unfairly. Paralee Saemalakor, the 48 year old accused, approached the superintendent of the Mueang Pattaya Police Station for assistance. She alleged that two police officers had threatened her, demanding that she pay 400,000 baht to her Australian ex-husband, Stephen Graham Goodes. Paralee explained that on May 30, two officers arrived at her home and informed her that she was being charged with swindling money from a foreigner, who she later learned was her ex-husband, Goodes. Police ordered her to pay 100,000 baht to the foreigner to settle the case. Paralee denied the allegation but, fearing imprisonment, decided to comply with the police’s demands. Unable to pay the full amount, she borrowed 30,000 baht from a friend. However, the officers refused the money and insisted on a minimum of 50,000 baht. Consequently, Paralee borrowed additional money and pawned her gold jewellery to raise the required 50,000 baht. The officers then escorted her to the police station, where they handed the money to her ex-husband. They took a photo of the transaction as evidence and informed her that she still owed 350,000 baht. Blaming each other Paralee said the harassment continued even though she had already given the money to Goodes. He shared her picture on social media and insulted her in the caption by saying, “Hi, little whore.” Paralee noticed strangers wandering outside her home, making her feel unsafe, and she eventually moved from Pattaya to Nakhon Nayok. After consulting with a lawyer, Paralee learned that the police could not extort money from her and give it to her ex-husband. She tried to seek justice from the Mueang Pattaya Police Station but they ignored her complaint. Paralee admitted that her ex-husband had covered her expenses during their relationship, which lasted from 2021 until April this year but she never forced him to pay. However, she broke up with him because of his infidelity. The Australian man defended himself in an interview with Channel 7, claiming he discovered Paralee was married to a Danish man even before they met. He believed she was only with him for financial gain. Goodes also mentioned using a GPS tracker on a tablet he gave her to confirm her relationship with the Danish man. He denied any knowledge of the police operation or how they obtained the 50,000 baht. by Petch Petpailin Photo via Channel 7 Full story: The Thaiger 2024-06-05 Get our Daily Newsletter - Click HERE to subscribe
  3. Suvarnabhumi Airport suspends guards after terminal brawl by Bright Choomanee Picture courtesy of KhaoSod Suvarnabhumi International Airport suspended two security guards following a brawl in front of the terminal, citing unacceptable conduct while in uniform. The incident, which occurred around 2pm yesterday, June 4, was a result of personal disputes between the two employees. The altercation was captured and shared widely on social media, tarnishing the airport’s image. Suvarnabhumi Airport management confirmed that the two involved were part of their security team. Their actions, deemed unacceptable, were a clear violation of the Airports of Thailand Public Company Limited (AoT) regulations, which strictly prohibit such behaviour, especially during official duties. Detailed investigations revealed that the fight stemmed from personal issues. In response, the management immediately suspended both employees and formed a disciplinary committee to further probe the incident and determine appropriate penalties as per AoT’s regulations. Suvarnabhumi Airport issued an apology for the incident, emphasising their commitment to maintaining strict discipline among employees. The airport assured that any violation of conduct would be met with severe consequences, with the maximum penalty being the termination of employment. “We deeply regret the incident and assure the public that we hold our employees to the highest standards of conduct.” The airport management reiterated their zero-tolerance policy towards any form of misconduct, especially actions that occur while in uniform and on duty. They stated that maintaining a professional and disciplined workforce is crucial for the safety and reputation of the airport. Witnesses who recorded and shared the brawl on social media described the scene as chaotic and unbecoming of security personnel. The viral footage quickly drew public attention and criticism, prompting swift action from the airport authorities, “The behaviour displayed by the security guards does not reflect the values and standards we uphold.” The disciplinary committee is expected to conclude its investigation soon, and the findings will determine the final disciplinary actions against the two security guards, reported KhaoSod. 5. A scene that shocked an entire community unfolded yesterday when a presumed dead 72 year old man suddenly revived as rescue workers were preparing to collect his body. The incident occurred in Ban Dung District, Udon Thani Province, leaving both neighbours and authorities in disbelief. At around 3pm yesterday, Weerapol Raksameuwong, an administrator for the Ban Dung Update Facebook page, received a report from residents of Ban Kham Bon in Na Kham Subdistrict. They had discovered what they believed to be a dead man inside a house at 139 Ban Kham Bon. The neighbours, who hadn’t seen the elderly man, Khonsan “Tahok” Sosut, for three days, were confronted with a foul odour emanating from the house, prompting them to check inside. Upon arrival at the scene, authorities found a newly constructed house. Peering through the window, they saw Khonsan lying naked on the floor, his limbs swollen, and surrounded by blood and feces. The village headman climbed through a window to open the door for the rescue team to collect the body and hand it over to the relatives for traditional funeral rites. Neighbours confirmed that Khonsan lived alone as his wife was in Bangkok and his children worked abroad. They built the house for him to live in. When the neighbours noticed the foul smell and hadn’t seen him for days, they decided to look through the window, where they were horrified to discover Khonsan seemingly dead. Suspecting that he might have succumbed to a chronic illness, they immediately contacted the authorities. Weerapol initially believed Khonsan to be dead and went to his van to fetch a white cloth to cover the body, pending the arrival of the police and a coroner for an autopsy. However, as he was on the phone and preparing to cover the body, a startling event occurred. “I noticed movement and saw Khonsan open his eyes and gasp for air. I quickly dropped his phone and shouted, ‘He’s alive, he’s alive!’ prompting the rescue team to act swiftly.” The rescue team from Na Kham Subdistrict rushed Khonsan to Somdej Phra Yupparaj Ban Dung Hospital. News of Khonsan’s unexpected revival spread rapidly among the gathered neighbours, who erupted in a mix of shock and joy. Some could hardly believe it, as the smell from his house had been overwhelming, leading many to assume the worst, reported KhaoSod. by Nattapong Westwood Picture courtesy of KhaoSod Source: The Thaiger 2024-06-05 Get our Daily Newsletter - Click HERE to subscribe
  6. 2 Thai women electrocuted at amusement park in Lopburi by Petch Petpailin Photo via Facebook/ พิราบขาว สิงห์บุรี A Thai woman suffered serious injuries after she was electrocuted while getting off a tagada ride at an amusement park in the central province of Lopburi on Sunday. 7. A Thai woman suffered serious injuries after she was electrocuted while getting off a tagada ride at an amusement park in the central province of Lopburi on Sunday. The incident occurred on a tagada ride at the International Amusement Fair at CS Park on Sunday, June 2. Two people were injured, one of them seriously. The tagada ride comprises a spacious, circular bowl where riders can delight in the spin and music without the use of seatbelts. Passengers have the option to grasp the handrail behind their seat as the ride rotates or bounce in the centre of the bowl. However, this ride has been prohibited in certain countries due to numerous accidents and associated injuries. The seriously injured woman was 19 year old Nattakamon, also known as Beam. Beam was electrocuted when she touched the stair handrail while getting off the ride. She lost consciousness and fell down the stairs, hitting her head on an iron structure. Beam’s friend, whose identity was not disclosed, also suffered electrocution upon touching the stair handrail and subsequently lost consciousness. Fortunately, she was propelled back into the ride’s bowl. Beam was admitted to Sing Buri Hospital, where doctors informed Channel 3 that she had sustained a skull fracture near her right eyebrow, two broken ribs, and potential eye damage that could result in astigmatism. The manager of the amusement park pledged that the establishment would assume responsibility for the incident. He asserted that the electrocution did not occur directly on the tagada ride but was instead caused by electricity leakage from a decorative light. The metal stairs acted as a conductor, leading Beam and her friend to be electrocuted when they touched them. The park manager added that the staff did their best to help the two victims. One staff member cut off the power while others contacted the rescue team. The park insisted that the team had already checked for the electricity leak and fixed it. They also rechecked every ride in the park to ensure safety. by Petch Petpailin Photo via Facebook/ พิราบขาว สิงห์บุรี Source: The Thaiger 2024-06-05 Get our Daily Newsletter - Click HERE to subscribe

  9. A team of southern herpetologists and rescue workers recently discovered a king cobra’s nest in a rubber plantation in Hat Yai. They plan to incubate the eggs before releasing the hatchlings into the wild. Upon receiving a report from a 49 year old local called Charan Jankaew, residing at house number 59, Ban Nai Si, Moo 4, Thung Tamsao Subdistrict, Hat Yai District, Songkhla Province, the rescue team went to investigate. Charan reported that a king cobra had made a nest and laid eggs near a bamboo clump adjacent to his rubber plantation. Upon arrival, the team found a large king cobra consuming a lesser snake beside its nest. They waited for the cobra to finish its meal before attempting to capture it. The process took approximately 13 minutes due to the snake’s aggressive nature and protective instinct over the eggs. The captured cobra measured 3.10 metres in length and was placed in a sack for relocation. After securing the snake, the team dismantled the nest and placed the eggs in a foam box. The captured snake was then transported and released into a remote forest area, far from human settlements. The eggs will be incubated and, once hatched, the young snakes will be released back into their natural habitat. Recently, a member of the herpetology team, using the Facebook account Bao Mueprap Bongla Dan Tai Pa Yai Nat Wi, posted images of the uncovered eggs. A total of 44 eggs were counted, and the team is now waiting to see how many will successfully hatch. According to information from the Queen Saovabha Memorial Institute, king cobras mate between November and March, laying between 12 and 51 eggs from January to May. The mother snake guards and incubates the eggs until they hatch within 60 to 70 days, typically from March to July, reported Sanook. The Venomous Snake Club previously encountered the highest number of king cobra eggs, with a record of 80 eggs found in Chai Nat Province, marking it as the highest number of eggs laid by a king cobra. 11. In a shocking incident in Trang province, Thailand, a 22-year-old Burmese man has been arrested for fatally stabbing a grocery store owner following a dispute over money. The tragic event unfolded when the suspect, Ong Se Men, entered the grocery store around midday, pretending to buy rice but soon demanding money from the 53-year-old shopkeeper, Boonsri Thongpaen. When she refused, Ong Se Men became enraged and attacked her with a knife he had brought with him. In the ensuing chaos, Boonsri's husband, Wimon Thongpaen, 56, who attempted to intervene, was also attacked but survived, sustaining severe injuries. Deputy Superintendent of Yantakhao Police Station, Lieutenant Colonel Puunsak Sengsae, along with the village headman and an investigative police team, were quickly on the scene. They were also supported by the Special Operations Unit (S.W.A.T.) of Trang Provincial Police. The scene was thoroughly investigated, and Boonsri was found with multiple stab wounds. By the time the police arrived, Ong Se Men had fled into a nearby forest, abandoning his black and red Honda motorcycle. Royal Thai Police disclosed there will be no reenactment of the crime due to concerns for the suspect's safety, fearing the potential for mob violence from enraged locals. Surveillance footage provided a clear timeline of the incident, capturing the suspect entering the store, the attack, and his subsequent escape. This footage played a crucial role in tracking Ong Se Men to a rubber and oil palm plantation approximately 2 kilometres away, where he was apprehended. In response to the incident, Poonsak announced that authorities will be ramping up patrol efforts and conducting more frequent inspections of stores in high-risk areas. Measures will include the implementation of QR codes for patrol officers to enhance monitoring and security. This tragic incident has sent shockwaves through the Trang community, highlighting the need for increased security measures in local businesses. 13. The Thai authorities apprehended a fertiliser merchant who faces two arrest warrants for allegedly soliciting sexual services from two minors aged 14 and 17 at a hotel. The merchant, identified as 50 year old Sakorn claimed his impotence (erectile dysfunction) meant they only conversed, presenting medical documents as proof. On June 4, police officers led by Police Colonel Booncherd Chanmanee and Police Lieutenant Colonel Thongsa Pilawong, alongside the Huai Khot District investigative team, executed arrest warrants from the Uthai Thani Provincial Court. The warrants pertain to charges of sexual misconduct with minors under 15 and the abduction of minors over 15 but under 18 for profit or indecent purposes. Sakorn, a fertiliser and pharmaceutical shop owner in Uthai Thani, was initially not present at his shop. His wife revealed that Sakorn was at another market. She then contacted him, resulting in Sakorn arriving at Huai Khot Police Station at 11.30am, where he was informed of the charges. The incidents in question date back to December 18, 2023. Where Sakorn allegedly contacted two underage girls via Facebook and arranged to meet them at a hotel in Huai Khot. He admitted to booking a room at the hotel where the two girls subsequently joined him. According to Sakorn, they merely had a conversation for about 20 minutes before the girls mentioned they had another appointment and left. Sakorn then transferred a few thousand baht to the girls but claimed that his impotence prevented any sexual activity. In his defence, Sakorn presented medical documents indicating his condition, stating he only sought companionship from the minors and intended to win their affection. He requested a partial denial of the charges. Meanwhile, Pol. Col. Booncherd highlighted that Sakorn allegedly solicited sexual services from both minors on two separate occasions on the same day at the hotel in Huai Khot. The police successfully detained Sakorn based on the two warrants issued for his arrest, reported Khaosod. The investigation continues as authorities seek to determine the full extent of Sakorn’s actions and any potential additional victims involved. The apprehension of Sakorn reflects a broader crackdown on the solicitation of minors, with law enforcement agencies working diligently to protect vulnerable children from exploitation. by Nattapong Westwood Image courtesy of Khaosod Full story: The Thaiger 2024-06-05 Get our Daily Newsletter - Click HERE to subscribe

The spat, seemingly stemming from personal issues, took place while they were on duty, leading to a visibly uncomfortable scene for bystanders. The video of the incident, shared across various social media platforms, did not paint the airport in the best light. Immediate Actions Taken Reacting swiftly, Suvarnabhumi Airport released a statement via their Facebook page, addressing the unfortunate incident. Both officers involved have been immediately suspended from their duties. The airport management has also formed a disciplinary committee to look into the matter thoroughly. 17. Thailand is preparing to introduce a Bill to legalise casinos, aiming to create large entertainment zones to attract more tourists and generate additional state revenue. This move is part of a broader strategy to position Thailand as a premier tourism hub. A government spokesman, Chai Wacharonke, confirmed that Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin has directed the finance ministry to draft the necessary legislation. The initiative comes on the heels of a House of Representatives study, backed by a majority of its 500 members in March, which recommended the establishment of legal casinos within large entertainment venues. These integrated complexes are expected to include not just casinos but also other attractions, targeting high-spending tourists. The potential economic impact is significant. Chai estimates that the first year of operation could bring in as much as 12 billion baht (approximately £290 million) in tax revenue. The global casino industry, which generated around £215 billion in revenue last year according to IBIS World, presents a lucrative opportunity for Thailand to tap into. Thailand is not alone in this venture. Recently, the United Arab Emirates set up a framework for legal gaming, with Abu Dhabi and Ras Al Khaimah leading the charge. Thailand's potential legalisation of casinos aligns with a recent shift towards more liberal policies aimed at revitalising the tourism sector, which suffered significantly due to the pandemic. This is not the first time Thailand has ventured into more liberal territories to boost tourism. In 2022, it became the first country in Asia to decriminalise cannabis, although it is currently reconsidering its stance on recreational use. Moreover, Thailand is poised to be the first Southeast Asian nation to legalise same-sex marriages. While most types of gambling are currently illegal in Thailand, the proposed legalisation of casinos reflects a strategic pivot. The aim is to attract a wealthier tourist demographic, thereby stimulating the local economy and enhancing Thailand's global tourism appeal. 19. The Thai government has introduced new tax measures to invigorate the tourism sector during the low season. The Deputy Finance Minister, Paopoom Rojanasakul, confirmed today that these incentives will run from May to November, aiming to stimulate domestic travel and improve the economy. The initiatives include tax deductions for companies hosting conventions and seminars, encouraging more business-related travel within the country. Additionally, income tax deductions will be offered for expenses incurred on accommodations such as homestays and non-hotel stays, particularly in secondary cities. This move is designed to spread the economic benefits of tourism across less-visited areas. Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin admitted that these measures would result in a revenue loss of 1.5 billion baht (approximately £35 million). However, he asserted that the long-term benefits to the economy would outweigh the initial cost, stating, "The benefits will be greater." Tourism and Sports Minister Sermsak Pongpanich acknowledged that Thailand's infrastructure and services still have shortcomings. He pointed out that many destinations lack the development required to meet growing demand, despite the government's ongoing efforts to improve the nation's tourism standing over the next four years. "Thailand still has weaknesses in infrastructure and services," he admitted. In a related positive development for the tourism sector, Thailand is set to host the filming of "Jurassic World 4," the latest in the popular Jurassic Park series. The Department of Tourism's Director General, Jaturon Phakdeewanit, announced that filming will take place from June 4 to mid-July in various locations, including Bangkok, Krabi, Trang, Phang Nga, Phuket, and Chiang Mai. The film's production is expected to inject approximately 650 million baht into the local economy, benefiting sectors such as equipment rental, accommodations, venue hire, transportation, and catering. Moreover, the production team will capitalise on the Thai government’s incentive program, which offers a 20% rebate for international films spending over 100 million baht in the country. This incentive aims to attract significant film projects, further boosting the economy. These efforts highlight the government's commitment to revitalising tourism and spreading its benefits across the nation. 23. A 61 year old man tragically lost his life after being trampled by an elephant while foraging for mushrooms in Nam Nao National Park. This incident marks the second fatal elephant attack in the area this year, with the animal believed to be a protective mother startled by the man’s presence. Police investigator Pichet Thonglor, on duty at Nam Nao Police Station in Phetchabun Province, received a report yesterday about a fatal elephant attack on a local within the park’s forest. The incident was attended by medical staff from Nam Nao Hospital and officials from the national park. At the scene, located approximately 30 metres from Highway 12 in a bamboo forest, the body of 61 year old Sakorn was found with blood covering his face and bruises all over his body. Multiple elephant footprints, each about 20 centimetres wide, were visible, along with fresh elephant dung and broken bamboo. A sack containing water bottles and mushrooms believed to belong to the deceased, was also discovered and collected as evidence. Speaking about the incident, Nam Nao Police Station Chief Boonthueng Mueansaeng revealed that preliminary investigations indicated that Sakorn, along with other villagers, had ventured into Nam Nao National Park to search for mushrooms during the night, each person going their separate ways. In the early morning hours, villagers reported hearing an elephant trumpeting near the incident site. At dawn, upon preparing to return home, they discovered Sakorn lying in a pool of blood, already dead. According to park officials, the area is known to be inhabited by several elephant herds, including a protective mother elephant with her young calf. The elephant likely became startled and attacked Sakorn out of fear for her calf’s safety. In April, another fatal elephant attack occurred in this same district, resulting in the death of a resident. 25. A Thai man in Samut Prakan province, near Bangkok, is seeking justice after his girlfriend abandoned him, despite his efforts to pay her a dowry in daily instalments of 300 baht per day. He had paid a total of over 10,000 baht, hoping to build a family together. The 47 year old man, Ched, told Channel 7 that he is a single father and works as a security guard to care for his child. He started using a dating app in the hope of finding someone who wanted to build a family with him, which is how he met his 43 year old girlfriend. Ched explained that his girlfriend lived in the eastern province of Rayong. She is a single mother, so Ched believed that the woman would understand him, as she had a similar background. According to Ched, they started their relationship in March, and the woman asked him to relocate to Rayong and live with her at the beginning of that month. However, he had to marry her before moving in. Ched disclosed that the woman’s mother requested a 59,999 baht dowry from him. He could not provide the requested amount because he did not have any savings. The woman suggested he pay her the dowry in instalments of 300 baht per day, and Ched agreed. Ched requested his company pay him daily instead of monthly. He earned 500 baht a day and gave 300 baht to his girlfriend. Ched stated that he sometimes could not afford food but was willing to pay the dowry because the woman expressed her love to him by talking with him via video conference every day. Unfortunately, the woman ended the relationship with him at the end of April. She said he had changed and became a different person. He was accused of being high-maintenance and annoying. Ched said he agreed to end the relationship but asked her to return his money, over 10,000 baht, that he had given her as dowry. The woman initially promised to return the amount but later disappeared. Ched expressed his disappointment, saying he wished to build a family with her and did not expect to be abandoned. He added that he wanted the woman to contact him to settle the issue, as he did not want to proceed with any legal steps against her. y Petch Petpailin Photo via Thue Thai News Source: The Thaiger 2024-06-05 Get our Daily Newsletter - Click HERE to subscribe
