I met one in Nong Khai who not only had been in the SAS, but had also recently broken the village headman's arm. (he claimed) (remote vilage in Udon Thani without a metalled road). He name-dropped a couple of stories about SAS operations in the 50's(?) I would not describe him as good company but the bar owner was happy 'cos he spent a lot of money on beer.

Thank you for updating me. I was unaware of that. I just had the "old" style of work permit.

It is possible a WP issued under the one-stop regulations administered by the BOI may omit duties and location. I don't know. Non-BOI work permits definitely do not. I will have to wait for an expert to come along. BOI will not be dealing with this hamburger stand. So for all the reasons I stated above, including location and duties, this unnamed English guy does not hold a work permit for foreigners to do what he was doing. He may hold Thai nationality. Can you read Thai?

Gorilla smuggling plot uncovered after Istanbul Airport seizure

There are no shortage of rabbit farms in Thailand. 150,000 Baht would buy a lot of rabbits. -
Are you absolutely sure? Have you read every page of your work permit? Even the bits in Phasa Thai. Is it a BOI company?

You don't have to look hard to spot Trump the grifter. From the serial bankruptcies to Trump University to Trump steaks to Trump Coin. He knows the truth behind the line, "Just move on to the next sucker, there's plenty out there." America, you have been fooled and it will be painful. You will be paying for it for decades.

Bored of Bangkok... Any advice to an alternative place to live?

I suggest Satun. -
No. Street vending is a restricted profession. That means Thai Nationals only. In addition work permits are location-specific along with being time-limited, employer-specific and duty-specific. He has not got a work permit.

Yes, after a number of renewals and perhaps with children, you might think there would be a streamlining of the process. But no, all marriage extensions have to be approved by the regional authority. -
Suspected Human Smugglers Arrested at Tollway Booth in Bangkok

You always know they are Burmese when they are crammed in to these vehicles like livestock on the way to the abbatoir. They stand out like a sore thumb. Looks like the tinted windows did not help. -
Dutch national arrested in Bangkok for US$55,000 gold scam
Briggsy replied to snoop1130's topic in Bangkok News
You get quite a few Africans with Dutch passports coming to work in construction jobs in the UK. I encountered them in a previous job. They were clearly African with sub-Saharan accents but they had Dutch names (both first name and surname) and a Dutch passport but could not speak a word of Dutch. I never did figure out what was going on. I assumed either the passports were fake (but they passed Home Office checks) or they borrowed somebody's identity. -
Clearly the ordination date was insufficiently auspicious. While the street lighting may have been a very minor contributing factor, I would be looking at excessive speed, drugs and alcohol and phone use as the probable cause of the accident. And then lack of appropriate PPE for the cause of the severity of the injuries.

Pride and peril: Thai man caught ‘lion’ about cub safety rules
Briggsy replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
Judging by the comments from the Department of National Parks, he very likely isn't. The article just focused on the transportation violation as that was a slam dunk. Once they identify who exactly owns the lion and why it was being transported in someone's car, other charges may follow. -

There was widescale fraud in the Nong Bua Lamphu office chiefly. Indians were registering marriages with locals but the marriages were not real. They did this to obtain permission to stay. This led to the permission to approve extensions based on marriage being taken away from local Immigration offices and passed up to the regional level. It was felt local officials had betrayed the trust given to them. All this happened years ago. -
He either has Thai nationality or it is illegal. Street vending is a restricted profession. He would not get a work permit for anything like that and it would not meet the salary requirements for the job you have described. So there are 3 big hurdles to cross. However, I have seen a Russian with a WP selling pizza through some weird and dubious company structure at a food court.

Changing visa while work permit still valid
Briggsy replied to Lolothai's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
Yes, I recall the thread. It got very messy, all last minute. I saw this was going to happen. -
The Conservatives have gradually moved to a centre position over the last decade or so, some may argue soft left. This is by increasing taxes and government spending, avoiding taking brave decisions on virtually everything including benefits and immigration leading to ballooning costs and failing to be tough on law and order. It was all very short term driven by polls and fear. They occasionally talked tough but it never materialised into action. They were too weak and afraid. Boris, Rishi, David Cameron, all very different, but all afraid of big decisions, all soft left. This leaves a huge gaping hole on the right of British politics. So Farage steps in. The trouble is he is not cut out for the job. In the cut-throat world of politics, he will eventually get elbowed aside. The question is will a sufficient number of Tory voters and Labour voters vote for Reform when it comes to a general election. I doubt it. I can see them getting 20% of the vote and 2% of the elected MP's. Lots of second places.

Changing visa while work permit still valid
Briggsy replied to Lolothai's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
Visa exempt prohibits work is my understanding. -
The decision as to what is exempt and what is assessable under Thai Income Tax legislation is first and foremost laid out in the Thai tax legislation NOT the DTA. Revenue Code (Official English Translation) Chapter 3 Income Tax Section 42 Exempt Income Paragraph 25 Compensatory benefit received by the taxpayer from the social security fund under the law governing social security. That is why the Revenue Department officer stated your Australian Age Pension is exempt. Use the Thai tax legislation to guide you. @TigerandDog

Go to China and you will find they are obsessed with high end watches. They are constantly checking each other's wrists. It is a cultural phenomenon. It is similar to owning property as a store of value, a mentality deeply embedded in the culture. This of course does not mean any watches were stolen in this robbery.
