  1. I have good experience with Sumo brand TIS plugs. they use a cable gland style strain relief so the electrical contacts inside don't get pulled apart. As for receptacles, I'm a fan of the rubber box same as Crossy mentions above. https://www.homepro.co.th/m/p/1288766?lang=th&gad_source=1&gad_campaignid=22353566328&gclid=CjwKCAjwmNLHBhA4EiwA3ts3mcMJZjUG2r5c1Hhm8XGMMYwvnY16BQC5Lwg22Awpabns29cphJlt_xoCYPoQAvD_BwE
  2. There is a section road with 3 solid yellow center lines on the way into Chiang Rai from Chiang Mai. Its a curved sloped section, and loaded pickups and buses still overtake in both directions. I know this post is about Pattaya, but some contractor in Chiang Rai figured out how to sell another stripe.
  3. I can remember being bored only once in the past 10 years. I was transferring through the airport at Guangzhou and my next flight was delayed 6 hours. Airport was packed. no available chairs to sit. Shops closed for the night. Nowhere to sleep or relax. Standing around waiting to get out of there is the most boring memory I have.
  4. in this case, i made a spelling mistake because i drank 4 beers and my fingers are too fat for this mobile phone screen keyboard. My spelling mistake conveniently disguised itself as a grammar mistake. ambiguity is wonderful.
  5. I remember one day in Redwood City, California watching people dragging, flipping, and rolling truck tires back and forth across a Crossfit outdoor lot. I'm guessing it was a rather expensive activity. Then, I was in South Africa watching a young man roll a truck tire alongside a road that lead miles out to nowhere. He was probably fetching a tire to replace one on a truck in a village somewhere. Interesting contrast.
  6. Interesting experience at the tire shop last week. I parked and walked toward the area with the sales girls. I could see that some of them had that look like "hmmm. how do we deal with this guy". After i greeted them in Thai, they were all smiles and happy to help me. We continued the process of selecting new tires, order, pay deposit (also using Thai language). Then the sales girl gave me a few extra coffee coupons for the shop next door. Amazing how the interaction can can change for the better after a friendly greeting.
  7. (US citizen) no recent experience with Bangkok Bank, but i had to go into Krungthai bank and update my FATCA paperwork after 7 years using this account even though my US Tax ID has not changed. The banker says they are now automatically sunsetting FATCA docs every 2 years and requiring us to fill in the form again. Hopefully they don't randomly lock out my banking app without notice in 2 years when i forget about this process.
  8. You could use a busbar if the top surface of all your DIN rail devices is at the same height. https://th.rs-online.com/web/p/busbars/1875176
  9. the advertising jingle / theme song on the speakers at Big C. Just about the time i get the worm out of my ear, I pop into my local Mini Big C to buy something -- and there it is again. I'm surprised more of the employees haven't gone crazy listening to that all day.

there's also the issue of temperature control throughout transportation and storage. 40C is not ideal
  11. 2017 Amphawa floating market. Ate some noodles / squid thing just before getting on the boat tour. Within an hour it was vomit overboard and fish come to eat it. 2014 Dominican republic. Friend's house that was hosting us said they keep a bucket next to the toilet in the outhouse -- just in case you need both at the same time. Woke up in a sweat late at night (6 hours after eating) to rush outside in the dark and pouring rain looking for the outhouse. Didn't make it on time and exploded from both ends outside in the garden. Quick outdoor shower with the hose and back to bed. Next morning, no evidence. Thanks rain!
  12. my experience with whistle-blowing security guards / parking attendants looks like they are trying to be helpful when I am backing into a parking space. However, I find it more of a distraction than a help -- especially when the car has mirrors, a reverse camera with parking guideline overlays, and sensors that make sounds when near collision. I just try to ignore it.
  13. The only time I use the word is when I refer to an inflated price as "farang price" at places where Thai people sell things to farangs
  14. I think I know the place. Haven't been there since nearly 10 years ago. I remember a farm fertilizer shop behind. And the lady who runs the shop is into scuba diving - so I'm not surprised if she opened a scuba shop. I'll stop by on my way. Thanks for the rec!
  15. Which shop? I know the area and plan to drive through there at the end of this month.
  16. In Chiang Mai, many of the "good" sidewalks have been blocked by electric / telecom utility boxes, advertising signs, road signs, and big holes with sketchy panels covering them. It keeps the motorbikes from speeding through while pedestrians climb through the obstacle course.
  17. I had a friend once that recommended a more simple system that we followed for fun when out and about. 1 or 2. 2 means you would have sex with her if the opportunity presented itself. 1 means not interested.
  18. same here. large diameter Panasonic is quiet. Mine is wired on a separate switch so it can be controlled independently from the light.
  19. running and cycling in cool weather, and not needing to deal with loose dogs on the way.
  20. I had a similar situation a few years ago. 2,000฿ fine and an extra 15 min wait at chiang mai immigration when i renewed my visa.
  21. the fastest impatient drivers i see on the road are often in expensive "wealthy people" cars. The second fastest and impatient group are teenage boys on modified motorbikes.
  22. Not sure about Australia, but I use Wise to transfer USD from American banks. Fees are the lowest i have ever found, but still non-zero. Keep in mind that Wise doesn't treat all Thai bank accounts equally with regards to speed and transfer limits. Kasikorn and Krungthai usually have instant transfers, whereas Bangkok Bank can take a few days depending on the amount. Not sure about other Thai banks. Also note that Wise cannot transfer money out of Thailand as of 6 months ago. I haven't checked since.
  23. Looking to pressure wash the flat concrete rooftop of a shophouse building. Accessible by stairwell all the way up from ground floor to 3rd. Location is Ton Pao (between Saraphi and San Kamphaeng). Hoping to find someone who will make it look nice and not create any new problems while doing the job. Let me know of you can recommend someone!
  24. I think I have seen them at King of Gym or Magnus Fitness on San Kamphaeng new road in the past. things have changed at both gyms, so I'm not sure of the current setup. I might go to King next week. i'll share again if i find one
