It is normal procedure here to grant convicted criminals a reduction of their sentence when they are cooperative. In such a case it is usual to commute the death sentence to a life sentence, which might be further reduced according to conduct while in prison.

One can expect that both will serve time of somewhere around 20 to 30 years.

And regarding such crimes against foreigners, generally the accused will face much harsher treatment by the courts than if the would have committed the same crime against Thais.

Commuting the death sentence to life actually did enhance Thailand's international reputation as most parts of the modern and civilised world have abolished the death sentence. Most of these countries do not even extradite people to countries in which they could expect the death sentence for their crime.

Well take the chances then, it's your choice until it starts to effect other people. Lets face it getting caught in a drugtest would really be the least scary that could happen.

I am talking about risking ending up in accidents or being the one causing them, getting caught in raids coulod result in loosing your job (that is if you are employed), your reputation as a serious businessman, psykological and physiological effects are well documented. Only God knows all the other good reasons for not having them in the first place.

Get a License, about a year ago I run over a Thai child of 3 years old, the child was pronounced DOA at the hospital, luckily I had a license and insurance, the insurance paid out 50,000baht to the parents so they were happy and the police didn't press charges, since that time I have crashed my SUV into 2 motorbikes, out of that 2 Thai people were severly injured and 3 sustained minor injuries, my insurance paid for it all, even the wheelchair for the guy with the spinal injuries, it is not worth the risk of not having a license.

Apparently you don't know much about the history of the region! These people have little in common with the Thai people historically, culturally, liguistically etc. The land was ceded to Thailand in 1902. They feel more ties with Malaysia but feel abandoned by them too.
