  1. This is very common in Thailand, I would not say it is Thai style. I have seen it alot and I reacted when my son and daughter was allowed to play quite close to the road. I was used to Sweden but should a Swede see this they would report it to the authorithies. Up to 6 years old a child is well protected and cared for but after that or close at least it seams as the degree of independence of and trust in the child is rediculously high. They speed up on motorbikes like they have a deathwish..

  2. Hi all,

I am not a golfer but I am a PT and I am looking into the possibilities of starting a rehab program and also initiate a very specific training sessions to reduce the injuries occured when playing golf.

I do undestand that this topic is probably universal and have little relevance to just Thailand, however there are many golfers here and a huge bank of both experience and knowledge. Can anyone give me an idea what the most common injuries are amongst golfers, would appreciate that

  4. I wonder if you can help me out.

I am looking for quality personal trainers material. Meaning books, magazines, information in regards to training methods such as Plyometric training.

Internet, books or magazines will do. Any information would be appreciated.

    Thanks

  5. Btw, My daughters name is Naomi,, dont understand why it was so hard to say Naomi? So we decided to give her the nickname Diamond, is that easier? Anyway they are both names of beauty. Naomi "My Grace" and Diamond "A Precious Gem"

I got one as well, Patrick could be difficult so they simplified it to "itik" After the explanations I've heard, I dont mind.

  6. It's a hang over from Hinduism.

Within Hindu tradition a person cannot be cursed unless you curse them in their real name. Hence children are given nick names.

The term 'Nick Name', itself comes from a Christian cultural belief that they devil (AKA Old Nick) cannot call you unless he knows your real name.

Another tradition, common around the world, is not to tell mothers that their new born baby is beautiful lest the local devil/evil spirits etc take a liking to the child.

(Odly we were discussing this very topic on the weekend)

The belief of spirits and evil forces seams to be relevant in both ethnic groups or religions but how much of the examples mentioned above exists with Thai's today. Doees it mean that I should be honoured be getting a nickname?

  7. Well Pattaya would be number 1 choice - has everything you need and more. However between BKK/Phuket - def Phuket. :o

I would definitely choose Phuket before Bangkok. Since other areas also are mentioned I would like to ask you guys, What is so special with Pattaya?

I have been there twice (ok, 1st time does not count as it was only for 3 hours) however I never experienced what makes it so special. What exactly did I miss out on?

Has most everything BKK has to offer (apart from traffic) but its by the sea. Heaps to do apart from the obvious. :D

I will just have to go for another FAM trip and check it out. I always thought Jomtien was a part of Pattaya city, what does Jomtien have that Pattaya centre does not?

Water Park and possibly soon the tallest building in thailand??? :D

    Gotcha

  9. Since we are all responsible for our own actions, we should also realise that every actions give birth to a re-action, we should concentrate on the final outcome. If we after all, cave in we have to bear the consequences and they might become nasty.

After all Thai mentality or just pure decent human behaviour, you think and evaluate the situation before you take appropriate action. This will develop a well deserved respect from other and within.

No answer is patented and therefore there are many rights. What is working for you might not work for another. There is no wrong or right. If you dont find yourself tearing everything down in your path, go for it.

  10. I've learned to categorize everything. I have two categories.

    1. Those things that I can do something about, and attempt to change.

    2. Those things that I can't do anything about, no matter how angry, or worked up I get.

When I feel my blood pumping I immediately pull up my mental category list and put it in either one or the other. If I can do something... I go full tilt to do it, if I can't, it goes in number 2 and I say what the F@#K! I don't like to waste my feelings on things that I can't do anything about.

If I feel myself getting angry, I try to go off somewhere by myself, I know that I don't like myself when I'm angry and I know that others like me even less when I'm angry. I too like the baht idea...

I rarely get too worked up about anything though. I've been fortunate, I've been blessed with a lot patience. I found a sure fire cure for road rage... Before I leave the house I convince myself that I'll be the only sane person on the roadway. I know that everyone that drives on the roads except me are the craziest and most idiotic people in the world. Those kind of people can do anything at anytime and for no reason. That way, when someone does something stupid... I already expect it to happen. I mean you can't get mad at a fish for swimming, that's just what they do.

    Exactly, easy isnt it?

I wish that Kayo was in here so that he can see I am not the only one that "categorizes" things :o

  12. When we dig a little bit deeper, have a look at the interview process.Application Process

    1. Resume

    2. Application will be rejected if you send a photograph! (We are an Equal Opportunity carrier, we do not hire based on looks. Being a good and warm hearted worker is more important than looks)

    3. Do not include your height and age, if you tell us how old you are and how tall you are, we will not contact you. Due to the discriminatory and wrongful hiring practices in Thailand such as an age requirement, a female requirement, a height requirement, a Thai National requirement, and various inappropriate requirements. Isaan Air does not practice in the corrupt human resources nature of Thailand. We are a carrier based in the Republic of Isaan, which established the Isaan Disabilities Act. We do our best to give jobs to those who are disabled, cause all people of Isaan are created equal. We are an affirmative-action employer

Things that makes you go hrmmm

  13. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news but I've stayed at the Baan Thai before. If you are looking for a quiet hotel this is not really the place. The room i had was quite a bit back into the gardens but the noise from Bangla Road was still pretty loud. Didn't actually bother me much as i was usually out late anyway but not the hotel you'll want to be at if you like early nights

Did you really hear Bangla Rd from Baanthai Beach resort? Thats amazing considering live entertainment until late night/early morning. I believe that the standard filipinoband coverband are still on every night right?

  14. Good news,,

To be honest I have only had good contact with Thai police. Once we were almost ran over by a cement truck and from the minute we came in to the police station we were helped with everything and I mean everything. Similar situations have occurred and the same thing there. Maybe I am lucky but I have never been harrassed by any policemen in Thailand but I have in Sweden though. Isnt that weird??

Well anyway good thing that they are acting fast...Hats off :o

  15. I'm guessing because some people buying land are possibly investing a large percentage of their assets and want to make sure that they are protected. If you loose everything in a divorce in the UK you will still have the Government there to back you up, I can't quite see the Thai Gov rushing to a farangs aid anytime soon.

Right or wrong we come from a culture that no longer seems to view marriage as a permanent thing, and some (including myself) are uncertain of the law if the divorce occured over here. I guess with so many changes and people getting ripped off, some people will not be able to rest easy unless they know they own the land 100% outright.

    Interesting points but..

I have ready many members posting advice not to invest anything in Thailand you cannot afford

to lose. Maybe because laws may change in a fairly unpredictable fashion and foreignors are

always more vulnerable in a difficult legal situation.

Also I have always understood that divorce can be fairly painless in Thailand , both parties

being willing , there is just 50/50 split of assets.

If there is a 50/50 split at divorce of all assets, what happens when you have a business together? If I am not wrong, any business would have to have a Thai partner most likely with the majority percentage of ownership. :o

  16. Thanks clip my wings

thats what i wanted to know "not a working girls bar"

Thats what i thought but didnt spend enough time around it to be sure

One thing I always stress to people that are thinking about travelling to Thailand (especially single guys).

NOT ALL GIRLS ARE PROSTITUES! (you really have to emphasis this for some people)

Even if they are working in a bar, some girls are simply not available for horizontal activities (at least not on a casual, P4P basis).

I've seen girls that I know personally, turn down large amounts of money from guys looking to shag a stunner. (I watched one I know, on different nights, turn down offers of 3,000/5,000 and 10,000 baht. Her monthly salary as a dancer is 10,000.)

I personally know some girls that have met guys, became involved in a relationship, and stopped working in the bars. Some keep working, but don't do the P4P stuff anymore.

On the other hand, I also know some that keep right on doing it, business as normal, even with 1 or more boyfriends sending them money every month.

Having a successful relationship with a Thai girl isn't much different than having a successful relationship with a girl in your home country. If she develops real feelings for you, she will make sacrifices (i.e. stop working in certain places) and will be willing to wait for you.

But if your entire relationship is based on a whirlwind 4-5 day romance that revolved mostly around drinking and screwing, I wouldn't expect to much. So many girls here meet so many 1 week Romeos, that after awhile, they start to think they are all the same.

You said it all, no further comments are neccesary

  17. Been a few of these threads around and I've already said Branston Pickle and walks in the English Countryside on cold bright winter days, but I have a new one....

I miss raking up the autumn leaves in my parents garden on one of those lovely autuminal days, you know where the last few birds are singing, the ground is damp with dew, the air is starting to turn crisp and the battle between summer and winter enters its final stages.

I sometimes miss the sounds of cars driving in the rain on a winters evening, picking strawberries in the sun, finding a new B and B in the countryside, seeing new born lambs ( :D Mint Sauce! Now!) summer birdsong (not a twitcher though) and driving though villages and seeing a game of cricket on the common.

I love Thailand dearly, and this is now my home, but I will never give up the things I hold special from my homeland.

    Sounds like England :o
