I have a hard time believing this.

I don't understand why citizens still tolerate these governments and officials to rule countries.
It's beyond imagination what is happening. Are we going to be asked to travel in flying boxes one by one or what?
It's a bloody virus. Get on with it. There are thousands if not millions of bugs that infect us on a daily basis.
This is exactly as the panish flu was 100 years ago. The second wave was devastating. It's a good thing that scientists are on this and not people like you.

How interesting - I have been a railway enthusiast for many years and still am. Any opportunity to take a train ride usually taken. Recently took the Upper Shan State train from Mandalay to Hsipaw via the zigzag incline to Pyin Oo Lwin and over the Gokteik Viaduct - slow but fascinating. Still have several of my old "Ian Allen" books. Have a good day.
That's a hell of a trip. Hope you didn't get whiplash from the smashing about... ????

Good god at least this news release isn't outside of the galaxy!
I mean it could be, but it could not. Nobody has a crystal ball.
To say that tourism will be back in 2020 is absolutely ludicrous, ridiculous, outrageous. There will be no tourism in 2020 and the first part of 2021. Zero.
Until a vaccine is invented, no country will let people out of their countries for tourist purposes nor back, full stop.
IF a vaccine is introduced that works, IF a treatment plan becomes available, then everything is off the table but I am doubtful this will happen before 2021.

If that was the case they would have a lot more deaths.
Nobody on earth is testing to the extent that they need to because, quite frankly, there aren't enough test kits available. Not one country.

International traffic is down to nearly zero, and big doubt that it will restart significantly this year.
Anyone has an idea of usual domestic traffic compared to international one ?
Internationally domestic flights are near zero. The airport that I'm nearby usually has 55k per day, one day they had 255 people. Yep. 255.

53 percent?
It's going to probably be far far lower than that.
You know, international travellers aren't going anywhere this year unless they really have to.

i read somewhere on this site a few days ago that there will be approx 200k children die as a direct result of the economic impact.
i say we lock down poverty.
I read on this site somewhere that 5G causes cancer. Is that true too?

Excellent article , Thank you for sharing. Buying time to prepare is the key.
I hope we learned an expensive yet valuable lesson and come up the other side stronger.
Like it or not it is a global economy, we need to develop a global system for reacting to an inevitable recurrence. No need to be duplicating efforts, let's coordinate.
There is a country in Europe who took the advice of the article. Greece in 2019 received 27.2 million international visitors, and an influx of refugees it was poised for a disaster. and after Italy has the oldest population in Europe. but with in a week of the first case, they shut the whole country down, greek citizens strictly adhered to the lockdown, feverishly the authorities worked to shore up their strangling from their economic austerity, health system and develop an extensive online system overnight.
The results , only 2,245 confirmed cases and 116 deaths as of April 21. by far The lowest per million incidents in Europe,
EXACTLY.
The WHO corrupt 5G anti vaxing comments are tiring and yet comical at the same time. It's always a "... but ... but... but.." out of those people.

The undeniable truth is that COVID shut the global warming shows. That's one positive effect.
We can all get back to our roots / horse, buggy living in sod houses and going nowhere.
Sounds nice.

It isn't going to be like this until a vaccine arrives.
All governments are talking about removing restrictions.
Germany in particular.

That is confirmed postive tests, millions more are not tested that have mild symptoms. If you do some research you will find this out.
The amount of deaths to come out of that 2.5 million won't be known for at least another month. Your figures are completely skewed.
You are right though, this is what they call "the great cleanse" of older people. It is evolution. There have never been this many old people on earth ever. It's inevitable - starvation, tiger attacks, or pandemic. Something is going to clear people out. Or we can fight it and not have bodies in the streets.
-
This is why we have governments around the world that are doing what the world health organization has studied and implemented in no uncertain terms.
I understand there are people who believe this is nothing more than a flu spread by 5G technology, china, or whatever they think. They should be soundly ignored.
The other option is bodies in the streets. Why aren't we seeing this? Because nearly every country on earth is taking these social distancing measures.
Thailand has chose this course, so I guess the best way to deal with it is live with it or go back to your country where they are ignoring this advice. Unless it's Sweden I guess the restrictions are even far more severe.
People can live anywhere on earth, but they can't take flight from chronic complaining. It always follows them.

At this point I'd rather be in Thailand too. If things start to get really bad, then I'd rather not be in thailand.
It's really hard to say what will happen, but such is life. Hindsight is always 20/20. If I was there would I want to go back to my home country? Nope.
Enjoy the food, relax, this will end one day everyone.

The real truth is that if you nip it in the bud and it evolves into a much easier to manage sickness the result will be much better.
The real truth is they are flattening the curve so that this may happen.
Real scientists around the world are working on this, and basically everyone is doing it except a few places like Sweden and they are not doing well at all.
You can't make money when you're dead. Take every day one day at a time and one day we might just be surprised. IT's far too early to be saying that anything is not working yet.

They've been trying to change things, and I applaud them for at least trying, but your foreign students won't be going anywhere this year, tourism likewise.
Find the bottom first, and the realization should start on the beginning of tourist season this year.
At least that's just a silly opinion from a non-economist so take it as is.
-
They are developing vaccines all over the world, by the way.
Not to take away from thailand but they really aren't doing anything special here. Everyone's foot is to the floor.

Nice headline, unfortunately it's all gobbledygook; baby-fed pablum.

Even china isn't going to let people come here and congregate with all kinds of foreigners to go back and shut China down in the middle of a pandemic. I agree with August, maybe 2021.
I mean good god you don't even have to be stupid to realize this.

Just so everyone is aware, there are 200 refrigerated semis in NYC right now holding bodies. Thank goodness the body count is dropping to only 500 per day. Think about that reduced number for one second. Old, young, the age or dynamics don't matter, just think about body disposal.

I know - it's absolutely ridiculous for any non-medical professional to chime in on separate outcomes.
There are different strains, many different reasons why it may not be so virulent in Thailand. They have and still continue to assess the situation and it is happening.
It's the same thing with vaccines and treatments that may become available and when. Nobody knows. It could be much earlier than what we are anticipating.
There is no conspiracy as to what is happening - people do not want to shut down entire lives down for something that isn't real. This is how fake news is barfed out.
There is literally not one medical professional on the planet that thinks that this virus is affected by heat. Full stop.
-
Again, if you want to talk to he medical experts they still remain unconvinced to this day that hot weather has anything to do with it.
I'd take every medical expert on earth over a non-medical expert.
Looking at Italy is skewed, because they just let people die with no medical intervention, so throw that number right out the window.
Jeez ladies and gentlemen.

Mid-2022
Maybe earlier, maybe a lot later. But sure!
All these exciting stories mean nothing when people cannot get travel insurance from an epidemic, flights aren't going, and the world is in recession.
For Thais the real agony is only just beginning I fear.
Covid-19: Domestic flights set to return May 1st - but its flying with a virus twist

It's a tremendous blow to the economy but the real problem is getting people to come to Thailand.
No country, without exception, will allow tourists to leave or return home if the thread of re-infecting their population is present. Furthermore, no insurance company will insure someone against this pandemic.
